Chapter 16
The world was silent. In that moment nothing moved. Peace rang through the streets. The red of the fires lit the blackened skies, and I turned to look at the men around me.
"You have to go."
"What?" Chris looked at me in shock. "No!"
Leaning into him, I rested my head on his shoulder. "I love you."
"I will not leave you." He held my arm. "Devine..."
"Chris. Go." A single tear slid down my face, "I must fix what I have created." A flash of lighting struck the ground about ten yards from us. "You are not safe here, my love, go. Please!" Turning my wide eyes at him, I begged, "I can not loose you!"
"Fine," He took a breathe. "I will be hovering."
I nodded and he and the men stalked away, to climb on board the chopper. The hairs on my arms stood on end, at full attention, and I turned to look out at the burning waste land before me.
Taking a step, I took a deep breathe. This was what I had been trained to do. Protect, fight, keep what was mine. I was the Alpha, and no one was taking my pack from me. The Alpha protects, the Alpha cares for, and most importantly the Alpha defends.
My hair whipped around my body, and electricity crackled around me. A thunder clap sounded in the distance as I turned slowly. The thrumming was getting louder and I could make out the shapes of the Rouge Choppers.
Heart pumping and fists clenched I turned. A man dropped in front of me. My heart jumped. Quickly I pulled my blades out from their hiding spots and retracted my gown into my suit. The suit ate away and covered, as the man before me took his face mask off.
"Your Majesty." He mocked me. "I have brought someone to visit you." He snapped and another man dropped down.
Hunched over, pale, and ghostly, I could make the face out enough to gasp.
"Devan."
His smile was sickening and his once handsome features, wrinkled in pain. "Look at what you have become."
The wind my storm was creating was whipping my hair every which way, and my eyes were beginning to glow. I fastened a deathly glare on him. "How? I killed you. I watched you bleed out. I murdered you."
He cackled. "Oh, my dear, darling, little Devine. Do you honestly think I would be so stupid as to actually fall into your trap." His rugged smirk turned into an evil glint. "You killed my decoy."
My heart stopped for a second, and the rumbling intensified.
Devan's men steadily dropped from their ropes, and they formed a semi circle around him. "You see Devine, I knew it was beginning to work with in you. You were beginning to awaken. Your true self, you were beginning to turn." His fingers caressed my arm. I tore it away from him and looked at him dead on. My tiara glimmered against the fires. "You are even more beautiful then before. Look at you."
Locking eyes with him, I threw my sword into one of his advancing men from the left side. "Devan, one more move and you all die." My tone remained steady and icy. He had captured me once, but I had learned. Little did he know, Chris, and my men, they were prepared for the fight. They were awaiting my command. I would kill Devan myself however.
"Oh look, the pup has become the leader." He cackled. "Oh no Devine, you, you were made to kill. I have no doubt in your ability to destroy us." He flicked his hand. "But I know what you are."
Every hair on my body rose, and I glanced up the thundercloud was circling above our heads. A smirk rested on my features. My fingers crackled and my eyes began to light up. The storm was brewing.
"So do I."
