Chapter 14
"DEVINE!"
I stumbled back and fell into Chris's arms. He soothed me and held me close. His arms shook as he looked down at me. "My love, are you okay?" His big blue eyes were filled with tears. "I thought I had lost you." He held me tightly.
Sighing, I tore my face from his broad chest. I turned slowly to face Hank. "So what you are telling me is that I am some sort of lab rat?"
"Technically yes." He shrugged.
Anger rolled from my core. "You stole, you broke me." I seethed. "And you made me."
His eyes widened as I let the rage building up inside my veins come screaming out. "YOU MADE ME INTO THIS!" I tore away from Chris and pulled my double blades out. The cold steel flashed against the sunset. "I trusted him!" My eyes flashed and I could sense a strange energy surge through my blood stream.
"So it did work." Hank whispered under his breath. A circle had been formed around us, and Chris looked at the sky. A massive thunder cloud was moving towards us.
"What worked?" My hands grew incredibly cold and a prick of water rolled down the tip as it began to rain.
"The serum, we wanted an assassin yes, but we got a freak. The doctor, he didn't want his work to ever die. He wanted it to thrive. So he put something in, Devan had know idea what it did to you. But I knew. I've been watching. I've seen what you can do. I know that you are different. And I know what you are capable of."
I looked at him. "You have a minute." I motioned for my men to stand down.
He took in a deep breath. "You were never to be left alone. There was a reason behind it. I knew Doctor Nevlend personally. He had wanted a subject to test his new weapon on. You were the perfect option. So I convince Devan to let you be the one. He didn't want you to. But he knew what you were all ready capable of and what you could become. You were injected with a form of unhuman serum. Yes you became compliant, but you also possess a power that was untested. Unknown." His eyes gleamed as a sharp pain seared the back of my brain. "It was never turned on, because you killed so easily at the beginning. Devan was supposed to enable it. But he never could do it." He walked up to me. Grasping my arm, Hank yanked me into him. His filthy mouth moved slowly. 'You are the Queen, the Empress. The Empire has fallen. You will rebuild it. Crimson."
My head snapped up. My mind blanked.
"Death."
I turned to face him. My muscles clammed up and I could make out the vision of the men surrounding me.
"Water."
Something strange, foreign, drove deep inside of me.
"Fire." He released me and stepped back.
"De, babe." Chris grabbed me from behind. I stumbled back, and he released me as though he had been shot. A heat seared my brain.
"CHRIS!" Blindly running, I collapsed. My body hummed like it was seeing life for the first time. A strange sense filled me and I reached my hands out. A weapon. Something grew from beneath me. A metal substance was growing beneath my fingers.
"Finish this Devine!" Hank screamed. "You are the queen aren't you?" He taunted. "You wouldn't want to be called weak now would you?"
The rage I had kept bubbling burst forth and a giant metal spike grew up out of the ground beneath me. I stood on it as my suit changed back into my dress. I examined my hands and a cold smirk settled on my features.
Chris stood beside me and his suit added a cape to his back.
"You want me to finish this?" I cooed.
Hank's face, once proud and full of life, looked pale and scared. "My queen." He took a knee.
"That is right." I sighed. The cold metal exploded from my hands, and I created a barrier.
"Forgive me." His bowed head made me snarl.
My hands now clasped with Chris shook.
"Darling. Look at me." Chris tempted.
My hardened gaze landed on all those bowed before me. I turned to look up at him, and my hatred softened. His beautiful face was looking at me in love. "You are better than this." He pressed a kiss to my temple. "I love you."
I smiled. "I know, but I must finish what he started."
