Chapter 5: Heiress Caddie Bose

Caddie's POV

My feet slowly guided me to my next class. The next class haunted my nightmares and awakened fear just from hearing it's name. There couldn't be a greater evil than math class. I was highly tempted to skip for the rest of the year but the only thing I feared more than math was angering my aunt. A shiver ran down my spine at the thought of her finding out I had skipped a class. By the time I had made it to the classroom most of the students had already taken their seats. I silently sulked as I noticed the only available seats were in the front row. I welcomed the sense of fear that washed over the crowd of people as they took in my presence. All of the sophomores knew who I was, only a few of the advanced freshmen were confused. I rolled my eyes and pulled out my book to read.

The teacher, an oversized woman with severe frown lines, was about to start the class the when the door flew open. I didn't have to look up from my book to know who just walked in. The mood shifted from fear to unwavering lust. My stomach knotted as my hands gripped the sides of my book tighter. On both of my sides two chairs were pulled out and seated in. Curiosity got the best of me as I looked up and saw a grinning Dmitri, seated on my right side, and a smirking Aleksander- seated on my left.

Somebody in heaven hates me.

"Well," the teacher cleared her throat, "it is an honor have three royals in my class." She looked flustered as Aleksander switched his attention to her. I had the urge to vomit, at the middle aged woman's inappropriate behavior.

"We're honored to be here," Aleksander said with his alluring Russian accent.

You're honored to be here, I corrected in my head. There was nothing I wanted to do more than jump out of the window. I tensed as I felt a hand wrap around my shoulders. Dmitri gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze and then rubbed my back in a soothing manner. I have him a weak smile and mouthed 'thank you'. Aleksander watched our exchange with an intense stare.

The teacher giggled like a schoolgirl and carried on with her speech, "my name is Mrs. Calloway and this is algebra 2."

She turned away from the class and wrote out a few example problems on the chalkboard. I scribbled the problems onto my notebook and attempted to solve them. Ten minutes later and zero problems solved I heard a chuckle from my left.

"Do you need any help, Lyubov Muva? Aleksander whispered seductively in my ear. I managed to successfully suppress a shiver, there was no way in hell I was going to let him see how much he effected me.

"Are you talking to me? Because I'm pretty sure last year it was you who needed the help," I said flippantly.

The class gasped at my cruel words. I winced knowing that I had gone way to far over nothing. Why couldn't my mouth stay closed? Aleksander's gorgeous features were marred by the dark look he gave me. Dmitri snickered beside me at the sight of his brother's wounded ego. Even though it was beautiful to see arrogant people get pushed back on to earth with the rest of us peasants I couldn't take any pleasure in his pain. Over the summer I had waited patiently for Aleksander to reach out to me. I didn't understand anything about our connection, but I had thought he would be interested in figuring it out. Instead he carried on with his perfect life and forgot all about last year.

"No, but seriously Cads do you want any help?" Dmitri said after his laughter died down.

I frowned at the problems on the paper; it was humiliating to ask for help on math. I could dissemble the human body with a quick touch but I couldn't solve inequalities for the life of me. No matter what anyone says about my powers, they aren't as evil as numbers.

"Aren't you guys supposed to be juniors? Why are you in a sophomore math class?" I asked in a clipped tone.

"Since you just carelessly brought last year up, you should understand that I couldn't go to class," Aleksander matched my tone.

I inwardly flinched. It was selfish of me to assume he was completely healed from last year. All of his physical scars had faded but mental scars can take years to go away. He suffered months of torture, and even though Aleksander wasn't my favorite person in the world, no one should be reminded of that.

"But this idiot has no excuse," he continued and pointed a finger to his brother.

The tips of Dmitri's ears turned red as he looked down at his paper. "It's not easy going to school and pretending to be an arrogant ass," he hissed.

Aleksander chortled, all of the anger from earlier was forgotten. "Don't worry brother, no one can replace this," he gestured towards his toned body.

I rolled my eyes, "Well, besides failing math you were successful in convincing everyone. Sometimes, I swore you even convinced yourself."

Dmitri have me a halfhearted smile but it didn't reach his eyes. I could tell he was reminiscing the past. Last year was hard for most of us, but it was the one time in his life when he was the star. My head began to throb from the mixture of emotions I was receiving from the two brothers. They couldn't be more different. Dmitri could be quiet and thoughtful with an occasional snarky comment, whereas Aleksander was loud and cocky, but I got a strange sense that it was all an act.

"Yeah well I'm back now," Aleksander said in a hard voice, "why don't you to do me a favor and never talk about last year again."

The girls surrounding us instantly went to his side, trying to comfort him. He brushed off their concerned statements and started to flirt with the prettiest girls. The puffed out their chests and dropped their voices into a 'seductive' tone. I thought they looked and sounded like Popeye. Dmitri went back to showing me how to solve the equations. He was fairly patient but I continued to get distracted every time one of the girls shrieked with laughter.

"Is it always like this?" I asked referring to the fanclub that surrounded Aleksander. Dmitri looked at the group with longing in his eyes before giving me a sad sigh.

"Most of the time it's worse. He's the most eligible teenage bachelor in the magical community. Even the mortals adore him, he's like a celebrity," jealousy crashed into me like a tidal wave. Dmitri desperately wished to be in his brother's shoes.

I grabbed his hand and gave it playful squeeze. "I think that amount of attention is sickening. Unless you're John Lennon I don't understand the hype," I gave the group of girls a disgusted eye roll.

Dmitri managed to look away and gave me an amused smile. "You're so different from other girls," he said almost affectionately.

I snorted and doodled on my notebook paper, "it's taken you this long to figure that out?"

"No I've known that for a while," his mood raised, "maybe sometime in the future I'll have to take you to see John Lennon's grave."

Despite my wariness towards the Volkov brothers I found myself laughing merrily, "Yes, because it's every girls dream to sit under the stars next to her favorite musician's dead body."

Dmitri shrugged and gave me a smirk,"I thought we established that you weren't like other girls."

We laughed together earning crippling wave of jealousy from someone in the room. I snapped out of my fit of laughter and searched the room for that person, my eyes landed on Aleksander who was staring his brother down with a murderous expression. I noticed at that moment that my hand was still holding Dmitri's, I let go and turned my attention to my work. Five minutes later when I was done with the worksheet Aleksander practically had a girl sitting in his lap as whisperer sweet nothings in her ear. I looked away and decided that he definitely couldn't have been jealous of his brother. Not when he had everything that he could possibly want. And even though I hated to admit it, that hurt the self-conscience teenager inside of me.
................

I walked into the cafeteria with my eyes glued to the platform ahead of me. The cafeteria hadn't changed in the past four hundred years, the pale marble floors contrasted nicely against the stone walls of the castle. A large sparkling chandelier hung from the thick support support beams. At the end of the room, the royal platform looked down upon the rest of room. Hungry fairies and werewolves raced to the lunch line while the witches and warlocks magically created their own meals. At the main table, where all the heirs sat, five of the six chairs were filled. I lifted my head proudly and marched up the steps, until a small- feminine body stopped me.

"Where do you think you're going," a sultry voice with a British accent demanded.

"Er...to my seat?" I looked at the girl who dared to cross me, and arched my brow as I curiously took in her appearance.

I expected her to took like Mira with her makeup caked on and wearing a skirt that revealed her butt, but I couldn't have been more more wrong. She was a few inches taller than me, her hair was as dark as my cat, Ebony. Her eyes were a cold- silver color that were framed by naturally long lashes. She had an angular face and ruby lips. She was menacing but breathtaking.

"There is no way in hell you belong here," she said with a haughty laugh.

Both of my eyebrows shot up as I stated at the beautiful girl in astonishment. Behind her, the other heirs were staring at the scene with a mixture of emotions. Ryder looked outraged, he was about to interfere when Kimone held out a hand to stop him. Maddox looked mildly angered, as if someone stepped on his shoe. Aleksander's brows were furrowed with frustration, he clutched his fork tightly in his hand. Mira created a box of movie theater popcorn and stared at us as if we were her favorite TV show.

"How old are you?" I asked returning my attention to the girl.

"15," she answered briefly, "but age hardly matters. There's only one seat left and you don't belong here." I smirked at the girl, never before did I have the power to intimidate my tormentors. Now everything was different, and I was more than willing to show the girl why exactly I belonged on the platform.

"That seat is for the Dark Witch's heir, isn't it?"

She looked at me as if I was retarded, "Yes, now leave." She started to walk away when I spoke again.

"Have you ever seen the Dark Witch's heir?" I asked in casual tone. At that point the whole lunch room had noticed our exchange and watched us with burning curiosity.

Her face was etched with annoyance. "No, but it definitely isn't you," she sneered.

"Well you're wrong," I told her.

She laughed and flipped her hair back cockily, "prove it."

I tried to keep the cocky smile off of my face as I shrugged nonchalantly. Without breaking eye contact with her I willed every candle in the room to burn out, one by one. A gust of cold air whirled through the room, some students were shaking in fear but she looked unfazed. The gust of cold air began to shift into a small tornado, it steadily moved across the floor before it stopped beside me.

The girl lifted her head defiantly, "An air elemental can do the same thing."

I nodded my head in agreement, "Sure but can an air elemental so this?"

The tornado sucked the girl into its icy depths, spinning her around a few times before it spat her out. Her small body laid limply on the floor, the only way I knew she was alive was from the steady rise and fall of her chest. When she slowly pushed herself to her feet the room gasped. Her body looked was frail and weak, every bone was exposed to the naked eye. Her dark hair had turned silver and was falling out of her head, her eyes were hollow and her cheeks sunk in. When she opened her mouth to speak I could see a row of pointed teeth. She tried to scream but it came out as hiss.

"Don't worry," I said softly, "you'll only stay like this for a few minutes, but there's your proof."

I skipped to my seat with a gleeful smile on my face. Most of the students stared at me in horror but the other heirs shared smug looks with me. Maybe it wasn't the nicest thing for me to do to her, but it was the funniest. The only person who didn't look amused was Aleksander, he still clutched the fork tightly in his hand and refused to meet my eye. His jaw clenched and his eyes were shut. Was he angry with me? Why? I was simply standing up for myself. As I thought that his eyes opened and he looked at me with disappointment. I squirmed nervously in my seat and thought over my actions. Once I came down the high of my magic it hit me, I just used my powers for my own sadistic pleasure!

**Okay so I don't really like this chapter but whatever. It's also really late and unedited, I could go on forever on its flaws but I won't. Anyway isn't it always fun to see little Caddie show people who's boss? Do you think this confident version of Caddie will last or do you think she'll go spiraling back to her old ways? Please vote and comment!!**
