Chapter 3
“Hogwarts, dear?” said the woman, “Come on in. Sit down I'll attend to you in a minute.”
Tom sat down next to the curly haired girl. “I'm Bellatrix Black” said the girl “Who are you? Are you pureblood?”
Tom didn't know what to say. Professor Dumbledore had told him about Muggleborns, halfbloods and purebloods. Apparently, purebloods think of Muggleborns as inferior. Tom thought that Bellatrix was clearly a pureblood who was proud of her heritage. But he didn't know about his heritage, so he decided to tell her that he was a pureblood as she clearly despised anyone who wasn't.
“I'm a pureblood ” said Tom.
“Oh, alright then” said Bellatrix “You still haven't told me your name.”
“My name is Tom Riddle,” said Tom.
“Which house would you want to be in?” said Bellatrix, “I wish to be in Slytherin.”
“I also wish to be in Slytherin too, ” said Tom.
Dumbledore had explained everything about the wizarding world to him and he had told him about the four houses of Hogwarts. He had done some thinking but he felt like he belonged in Slytherin, like it was family.
He did not speak at all after that and when he had bought almost everything he decided to go buy his wand. He looked at the map and headed for Ollivanders.
He opened the door and went inside. There was a very young man sitting in a seat who he supposed must be Ollivander. When he walked in, the man stood up and greeted him.
“I will need to measure your hand,” said Mr. Ollivander “Which hand is your wand hand?"
“My right hand,” said Tom.
Mr. Ollivander measured Tom's hand and when he was done, he took out a few wands and gave them to Tom to wave.
Half an hour later...
Tom had been in the shop for half an hour trying out many wands but all of them caused many boxes to fall down and one had even caused the window to break into tiny fragments of glass. Mr. Ollivander was searching the shelves for other wands for him to try. Mr. Ollivander handed him another wand and he said that it was made of yew, the core was a Phoenix feather and it was thirteen and a half inches long.
When he touched the wand, he felt power, as if no one could defeat him, like he was invincible. When he waved the wand, some wine shot out of the wand's end. He knew that this was the wand, he could feel it.
He gave ten galleons for his wand and left the shop. He headed back to the orphanage with his school items. But he had decided to return to Diagon Alley a few days before school started as he had seen a book he was interested in that would be available soon.
