Chapter 3: Past Memories

Morning arose fast as I slowly watch the surrounding nature around the Haven. A herd of Anak graze from the trees as the calves wonder around in curiosity. I smile as I took out Prompto's camera, taking a picture of the sight before me. "Now is see where my camera went off to. I was worried I lost it for a second. What you taking a picture of?" Prompto says behind me as he sits beside me. "I was shooting a picture at those Anak's, they looked nice enough with the sun raising." I tell him as I gave his camera back, giving no glance to him. "Wow (Y/N), I didn't realize you were good at taking photos... I'm going have to ask you to start taking photos now, they look awesome!" "Nope, that is your job Prompto. Anyway, is Noctis awake now or he still catching some Z's?" I smirk while Prompto stifles a laugh and nods his head.

"Yeah, just woke up a few minutes ago... Hey, is it okay if I ask you a question?" Prompto questions nervously as I raise a brow. "Uh, sure, I don't mind. What you wanna ask me?" "Thanks, c-cool... Uh, how do I ask this... I wanted to ask if you are with Ignis? I'm sorry if that seems personal, but Noctis got a little upset last night about how Ignis was so close to you. It even got Gladio tense when Noctis brought it up..." I look at Prompto in surprise before bursting out laughing, holding on to him for balance. "Y-You thought m-me and Ignis were to-to-together!?! That is the most funniest thing I heard recently! No Prompto, you can say me and Ignis are like siblings. I'm sorta like an adopted sister to him."

"WHAT! HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW YOU TWO WERE LIKE SIBLINGS!" Prompto shouts in embarrassment as Noctis pokes head out of the tent with a confuse look. "What is with the yelling?" "Noct! Ignis never told us that (Y/N) was his adopted sister!" "WHAT?! IGGY! IS THIS TRUE!" Noctis yells as he got a slap to the back of his head by Gladio who glares at the two young boys. "Stop with the yelling already, Ignis is right there making fucking breakfast! You both can question him without the need to yell!" Gladio growls as Ignis hums in approval, he glances at me with a frown. I give a look to play along causing him to sigh, nodding his head. "Yes, me and (Y/N) are siblings, not by blood. She was adopted around the time I was five. Her family was close to ours, so we took her in when they... passed away." Ignis says as he tries to make up a reasonable story for them to understand.

The three boys went wide eyes, looking at me with shock showing very clearly. Everyone goes quiet, growing uncomfortable among us all. Shaking my head, I turn away from the boys, huffing in annoyance. "Staring is kind of rude... Just go ahead and eat before packing up for Hammerhead. I got something to deal with..." I tell them before rushing away from the Haven. Prompto and Noctis call after me, but I ignore them, feeling anger build up within me as a memory of my father appears. Grinding my teeth, I punch the ground, suppressing a scream. "Why father... Every time I am asked about family, you always appear. I haven't seen you since that day, the day you tried to kill Regis." I mutter under my breath as tears began to spill. I love my father very much, but his actions on that day made me pity him since then.

*Flashback*

Fire began to spread through the city as Ifrit, the God of Fire, attacked the citizens of Insomnia with a man dressed in black. That man was Ardyn, my father, who I had not seen since I was a mere 10 year old child. A the time, I was only the ripe age of 901. Standing beside Regis, I watch my fathers destructive rampage across the city. "King Regis, do you wish for me to face the intruder? I do not wish to stand here and watch my city burn!" "Patience (Y/N), when he arrives here, I shall face him. Do not worry, I shall be sure to end this madness." "Why do you not let me fight? Huh? Are you afraid that the people will see that I will have not aged when the years pass afterwards? Call me an immortal monster?" I said in anger as Regis glanced at me. He could saw the anger coursing through my veins as he calmed me down.

"No (Y/N), that's not the reason... I just want you to be safe, I wish not to see you hurt. I know you can regenerate yourself, but I do know you can still feel pain." Regis replied as the last wall amplifier was finally destroyed. I could have seen the barrier around Insomnia flicker, slowly fading away. "Regis! The barrier!" I yelled in panic as the gate in front of the palace opened, revealing the man who caused all the destruction. His image flickered between a uniformed officer to a tall man in black and red-violet hair. Regis stepped forward, questioning him. "Is something wrong, officer?" "And you must be His Majesty." The man smirked as he revealed his true form to us. I was about to step in front of King Regis to protect him, but he held his hand up, not even a glance towards me. "(Y/N), stand back... this is my fight, not yours."

"Regis, you can't fight this man alone! He isn't even human!" I protested as the man glanced at me, paused in confusion at me. Frown shown upon his face as he walked towards us. "I'm pleased to make your acquaintance... And who might you be, little girl?" "I am not a little girl, and am most likely much older then you both." "Silence (Y/N), you must leave now. And you, why are you here?" Regis said angrily as the man summoned his weapons around Regis as Regis did the same. "Why, for you!" The man laughed as I stood back in surprised as Regis is shocked. "The Royal Arms! Who are you?" "You ought to know, being a man of royal blood yourself." He smirked as Regis glared. "Adagium!" "In the flesh, here to bring the bloodline of Lucis to an end!" Adagium said as he started to attack Regis, taking a few good hits on him.

Regis tried to block Adagium's attacks, but was failing slowly. "Hear me, Adagium! On my honor as king, I will vanquish you!" "Oh, dear. What an awful thing to say to your own flesh and blood." Adagium joked as he slashed at Regis's back, causing him to fall to a knee. I summon my Soul Saber as I get ready to defend Regis, but a barrier was placed around me. "Regis, don't do this! I must protect you! As I do with all the kings before you and the future kings to come! I must not let you die!" I yelled as Adagium looked at me, his sword placed against Regis's neck. "What do you mean 'As I do with all the Kings before you'. You are talking as if you are immortal? I highly doubt you are... unless you wish to fight me instead so you can protect your King until your last breath." Adagium said as Regis's eyes widen in fear.

"Don't you dare agree to his suggestion (Y/N)!" "No, no, you stay quiet. I'm curious of the woman, she reminds me of someone long ago... I will stop this fight between you and I if she agrees. If she doesn't, she'll still face me... after you're dead." Adagium said with a cruel smirk growing on his face. I glared at him, nodding my head in agreement. With the agreement, Adagium knocked Regis out, causing the barrier to disappear. "Regis! What the hell!" "Oops, did I do that? Oh well, he won't interrupt us fighting now. He will be fine, probably." Adagium said chuckling at my reaction. Stepping around him, I placed a hand on Regis neck, feeling a faint pulse. A sigh of relief escaped me as I stood up and pointed my sword at him. "Fine, if you really think fighting me is worth the while, then so be it. You won't be able to kill me for it is futile."

"As I would same the same for me, (Y/N)..." Adagium said as he rushed toward me and stabbed me in the shoulder. I smirked as stabbed him in the chest, right at his heart. "You truly have poor aim, and you will die... Adagium." I said as the man started to laugh. "You think a stab to through the heart will kill me? This is quite amusing. And what is surprising is that you didn't yell in pain, nor are you bleeding... Might I ask for who you truly are? No mortal speaks or acts like you do, you sound just like me." "And why should I tell you? You are just a monster that seeks to kill the bloodline of Lucis, even if you kill the king, I would still take throne in order to continue the bloodline!" I yelled as Adagium bared his teeth. "And how? Are you related to Regis by blood, marriage! You couldn't take the throne even if the Crystal chose you!"

"Its because I am one of his ancestors! I have lived for over 900 years now and I will not let you tell me what I can't do!" Adagium froze as he vanished before my eyes, and throwed me to the ground, sword against my neck. "Lies! You can not be of royal blood! If you are of royalty, then show me the Royal Arms! For only I and Regis can summon them and no one else can!" Adagium hissed as I glared at him. Switched to the Royal Arms, I knock him back, the Founder's sword drawn. "Does this answer your question! I have summoned that of the Royal Arms! For my name is (Y/N) Lucis Caelum! Niece of the Founder of Lucis, Somnus Lucis Caelum!" I answered in anger as Adagium stepped back in shock. "W-What? How is this... You were mortal last time I saw you..." "What are you rambling about now Adagium! Are you not satisfied with my answer! I have summoned the Royal Arms and told you of my name! Answer!" I yelled as Adagium started to cry, falling to his knees.

"My dear daughter... It truly is you... How could I be so foolish and not recognize my own child!" Adagium yelled as I looked at him in question. "What? You can not be my father, for he was a sane man who cared for my safety! He sent me out to this place after Niflheim changed leaders in order for to live a life of peace! And that was centuries ago!" I said in anger as Adagium stood up, taking out a chain from his pocket. "I truly am your father, (Y/N)! If you do not believe me, then look at the necklace around your neck!" "What of it, there is nothing special about this." "It is special, have you ever seen anything like it before on anyone else? I have just the same, see?" He said as he showed me his necklace. The amethyst shined brightly as I looked at mine, confusion clouding my mind. I shake my head in disbelief as I took a step back from this man. "N-No, this ca-can't be... F-Father?" I said as my knees became weak.

Almost fallen to the ground, Adagium caught me, holding me close. "Shh, it's okay (Y/N), everything will be fine." "E-Everything is no-not fine! You k-killed people and t-tried to ki-kill Regis! What hap-happened to you! W-What happened to t-the f-father I knew in the pa-past!" I cried out as I gripped his coat tightly. Thunder could be heard as rain began to fall. Right as a flash of lightening appeared, we ended up somewhere different. We both were floating, separated from each other as I looked confused with him. "Father?" I called out as a booming voice called out to us. "Adagium... (Y/N)..." Bahamut said as he looked down at us. I stepped back in fear of the god as my father stood in front of me, protecting me. "What is going on? Why have you brought us here! If its about my revenge, then I shall have it and spare my daughter from them! I will be King and have my daughter rule by my side!" Father yelled as Bahamut stared at him.

"Thou shall not be King nor will (Y/N) a ruler of any kind, because thou hast been chosen to serve a different purpose... To spread darkness throughout the world is thy true calling." Bahamut said as my father anger grew within him. "Darkness?" "And your daughter, (Y/N), was never to be born, but now has a purpose in this world. For she will protect the True King who shall be born soon unto Lucis, until the day the True King is ready to lead his people as their beacon of hope and drive away the darkness." "Was to be born? Are you saying that I'm not supposed to be here!" I yelled in anger and confusion as my father looked at me in sadness. Bahamut nodded his head as he continued his speech. "In return, thou shall be his sacrifice-the limitless shadow that ushers in the light." Father glared as he snarled at Bahamut at his words. "Why must I continue to suffer, let alone have my daughter suffer the immortal life like I? Have I not already sacrificed enough!?"

"When the True King awakens, summoning the power of his forebears, he shall at last relieve thee of thy suffering and of (Y/N)'s fate. So it is ordained, and so shall it be." "You say I am not the savior of man, but his sacrificial lamb. And that I live only to die by the hand of the heir to an ill-gotten throne. THAT is the fate the gods have chosen to bestow upon me!? And what will happen to her! What will happen to (Y/N)!" Father yelled as Bahamut sighs, at him. "The very same. Defy thy destiny if thou dare, but know that it would grant thee a life of darkness unending, devoid of death's reprieve." And then raised his hand, gesturing towards me. "She shall vanish and never appear in the afterlife with you for she was to never to have exist, as you were to never fall in love with another woman again. Because of her birth it has brought an unbalance to the world." "Then why don't you get rid of me then?! If I cause an unbalance to this world, why did you let me live!"

"It was to see what would become of you, Adagium. But seeing it has brought a wedge between you both involving the bloodline, we shall keep it that way. For your longing of revenge and her longing to protect all her Kings. This will most amusing." Bahamut admitted as my blood boiled in rage as I stood my ground. "What say thee, Adagium, (Y/N)." Bahamut questioned us as father glared at Bahamut. "Not once have I begged the gods for such a blessing. And I do not intend to kneel before you now!" Father yelled as his face changed, showing of black oze coming out of his mouth and eyes. "And as you can see, I'm no 'mortal.' I'm a monster, for my path was paved by blood." Father looked at me as did Bahamut. "What be your answer, (Y/N). Will you accept your fate, or resist like your foolish father?" Bahamut said as I snapped in anger. My face slowly changed the same as my fathers as I snarled at Bahamut.

"Why would you think I would agree to this! You may see me and my father as pawns in this little game of yours, I swear that the TRUE KING will LIVE at all cost to go against you all! I looked up to you all and worshiped you, but learning that I and my father will only die in this twisted game that YOU created for this entertainment for yourselves is sickening! I will not listen to you any longer and will change the fate of the True King by my own hands!" I yelled at Bahamut as father watched me with shock upon his face. Fading back to normal, I look at my father then back to Bahamut. "I see, you too are foolish as your father. If thou wilt fight against fate, so shall it be." Bahamut said as he bonded my father and a blonde woman appeared. Struggling, father looked at the woman and sighed. "Ghosts do naught but haunt my tortured soul. Please, Aera. Won't you free me and (Y/N) from this curse?" He questioned before he was stabbed by the woman.

"NO!" I yelled as a pair of arms wrapped around me, holding me tightly. Looking back, I see to find a woman with (h/c) holding me. "What? Who are you? Why do you hold me back!" I questioned as father glanced at us, seeing the woman behind me. "Roslyn..." He said before he cried out in pain as he is stabbed again. "NO! STOP IT! PLEASE!" "Pierce my heart if you must, but you will never kill my resolve." Father said as he lost his strength. "The gods who rule above and the men who reign below shall lend their strength to the King of Kings. Only a fool would defy such opposition. Though mankind may not realize everything in this world is preordained. Man exists solely by the grace of the gods and cannot live without. Resist if thou must, but know thy struggles are in vain." Aera said as she walked away, the bonds releasing my father. The woman lets me go as I rush to him. Catching my father, I glared at the three others. The room starts to fade into a black as father starts to fade away.

"Father! What is happening!" "We are being sent back to our world... on our separate ways. If you continue to serve the bloodline as a guard, then surely we will meet again. Hopefully when the time of this True King is born and sent to fulfill his calling... I know you wish to protect him, but I will end the True King and I will set you free from this curse my own way..." "I know you want your revenge father... But there must not be anymore blood spilt. I want to bloodshed to end and everyone to live at peace, even you to start again... Please understand my choice in fate, for I will do everything in my power to make sure that the True King lives... Forgive me father..." I cried as he moved my hair back. "I understand... but the next time we face each other, we will have to enemies. I plan to kill him, no matter what. You might get hurt by me, but I promise when this is all over, that I will make things better between us... Until then, my dear daughter." "To you as well... father."

*End of Flashback*

Coming back from my thoughts, I glance around me to find the Bloodhorn Dave was talking about dead and body parts everywhere. "Shit, I blacked out during my trip down memory lane... This is the first where I actually killed something during a blackout. Ignis isn't going to like this one bit..." I sigh to myself as it was just about to become noon. After wondering throughout the wilderness, I finally arrive to see the boys waiting in the diner for me. Gladio automatically takes notice of my arrival, nudging the others before standing. "Took you long enough. What were you even doing out there for three hours?" "Taking my anger out on that Bloodhorn Dave mentioned the day before, which you guys ended up forgetting about. I needed to clear my head a bit... Anyway, lets just go already. We don't have all day and we need to catch a boat to Altissia." I answer Gladio as the others stood up, heading towards the now fixed Regalia.
