Redemption

Narrator's POV

2014. The attack on New York.

Steve, Tony, Bruce and Scott zapped into the battle ground.

"Alright. We all have our assignments." Steve said, looking around. "Two stones up town, one stone down." He turned back to the team. "Stay low. Keep an eye on the clock." He jumped back a little when he heard a loud thump.

Everyone turned to see the past Hulk slam a car on an alien, then throwing a wheel. He jumped up on a car before running away.

Steve looked at Bruce, who looked embarrassed.

"Maybe smash a few things along the way."

"I think it's unnecessary, but whatever." Bruce said, ripping his shirt off.

He walked out into the rubble, making quiet groans. He smashed the top of a car and threw a motorcycle not far. Then he leaped into the air. He was off to fetch a stone.

"Better hustle, Cap. Looks like things are just about wrapped out here." Tony said, spying on his past self and team in the Avenger's tower from another building.

"Got it." Steve said from a communication device. "I'm approaching the elevator now."

Tony flew silently toward an open window of the tower, disabling his suit and hiding behind a wall as he watched the past Avengers celebrate their victory.

"Urgh..." He groaned. "Mr. Rogers I almost forgot that suit...did nothing for your ass." He said, looking at past Steve.

"No one asked you to look, Tony." Steve said.

"It's ridiculous." Tony said.

"I think you look great, Cap." Scott said standing on Tony's shoulder in his shrunken form. "As far as I'm concerned, that's America's ass." He saluted him.

Tony heard the elevator ding. He quickly hid as a strike team came in. He watched as they took the scepter.

"Who are these guys?" Scott asked.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D...well actually Hydra, but we don't know that yet." Tony explained.

"Seriously? You didn't? They look like bad guys."

"You're small, but you're talking loud." Tony told Scott.

Tony watched as the last Avengers moved about. He saw his opportunity.

"Oh. Alright, your up little buddy. There's our stone." Tony had his eyes on the Tesseract.

Scott positioned himself on Tony's shoulder.

"Alright." Scott prepared himself. "Flick me."

Tony flicked him right into the case the Tesseract was kept in.

Scott ran across the case and up the past Tony's arm.

Tony quickly ran away and jumped out the window of the tower. He activated his suit and floated about the air, scanning the tower to the scepter.

"Alright, Cap. I've got our scepter in the elevator just passing the eightieth floor." Tony told Steve.

"On it." Steve said as he had just pressed the button to the elevator, awaiting the scepter. "Head to the lobby."

"Alright, I'll see you there." Tony said.

Tony walked about the lobby, disguised as a swat agent. He turned to the elevator once he heard it ding.

His past self, Thor and Loki walked out along with others.

"Thumbelina do you copy? I've got eyes on the prize. It is go time." Tony told Scott.

"Bombs away." Scott responded, climbing down past Tony's hair, to his small beard and into his shirt. He caught himself on the arc reactor. "Is that...Axe body spray?" Scott asked.

"Yeah, I had a can for extra emergencies. Relax. Can we focus, please?" Tony asked.

"I'm going inside you." Scott said, shrinking himself further. "Now." He went inside of Tony's arc reactor.

Tony saw as things started to go sideways on their mission.

He turned his back on the situation. "Alright, move it. Things started getting dicey out here."

"You promise me you won't die?" Scott asked Tony as he had finally made it to the core of the reactor.

"You're only giving me a mild cardiac dyspnea." Tony said.

"That doesn't sound mild." Scott got ready.

"Do it Lang. Window's closing. Pull my pin." Tony told Scott.

"Here it goes." Scott said, pulling on past Tony's plug.

The past Tony gasped, freezing up and gasping for air. He dropped the case and hit the ground.

Everyone around him stopped their fighting and assisted him.

"Medic." The secretary called.

"Medic!" Tony said. He looked around. "These guys need help." He said.

Scott climbed out of past Tony and kicked the case toward Tony, catching a pair of green eyes.

Tony quickly grabbed the case and began to walk away.

"Good job. Meet me in the alley, I'm gonna grab a quick slice-" Tony reached for a door, only to be thrown back by the Hulk.

He roared, scaring people away. He was angry about having to take the stairs.

The case flew out of his hands, opening and sending the Tesseract toward a sneaky little Asgardian, who saw his chance and got away.

Tony picked his head up, removing his mask.

Scott jumped on him.

"That wasn't suppose to happen, was it?" He asked.

"Oh, we blew it." Tony sighed.

"Cap." Tong called Steve.

Steve turned to the sound of his voice only to find him in a debris covered car with Scott.

"Sorry, buddy...we've got...uh, problem." Tony said.

Scott scoffed. "Yeah, we do."

"Well, what are we gonna do now?" Steve asked.

"You know what? Give me a break, Steve. I just got hit in the head with the hulk." Tony said, sitting in the car.

"You said we only had one shot." Scott said, outside the car wit Steve. "Yes. This was our shot. We shot it. It's shot. Six stone or nothing. Six stones or nothing." Scott pointed at Tony.

"You're repeating yourself, you know that? You're repeating yourself." Tony told Scott.

"You're repeating yourself. You're repeating yourself." Scott said.

"Dude, come on-"

"You know what? No. You wanted a time heist, you were on board of the heist. You ruined the time heist." Scott said.

"Is that what I did?" Tony asked.

"Yeah." Scott told him.

"Are there any other options with the Tesseract?" Steve asked Tony.

"No, no, no. There's no other options." Scott said. "There's no due overs." He slammed the open car door he came out of. "There's no going anywhere else. We have one particle left. Each. That's it, alright?"

Tony picked his head up from his hand.

"We use that...bye, bye. You're not going home." Scott sad.

"Well, if we don't try, then no one else is going home either." Steve said.

"I got it." Tony stood up from his seat. He looked at Steve. "There's another way to retake the Tesseract and enquire new particles." Tony closed his door.

Scott looked at him.

Tony came close to Steve. "We'll stroll down memory lane. Military instillation, Garden State."

"When were they both there?" Steve asked.

"They were there at a...I-I've a vaguely exact idea." Tony said.

"How vague?" Steve asked.

"What are you talking about?" Scott asked. "W-Where're we going?"

"I know for a fact they were there." Tony told Steve.

"Who's they? What are we doing?" Scott asked.

"I know how I know." Tony said.

"Guys? What? What is it?" Scott felt excluded.

"Well, it looks like we're improvising." Steve said.

"Great." Tony agreed.

"What are we improvising?" Scott asked.

"Scott." Steve handed the scepter to Scott. "Get this back to the compound."

"Suit up." Tony said.

"What's in New Jersey?" Scott asked.

Tony and Steve exchanged some numbers.

"Hey..." Scott was so confused. "Excuse me."

"Are you sure?" Steve asked.

"Cap. Captain. Steve." Scott got Steve's attention. "Sorry. America. Rogers. Look, if you do this, and it doesn't work, you're not coming back."

"Thanks for the pep talk Pisspants." Tony said, turning to Steve. "You trust me?"

"I do." Steve said.

"Your call." Tony told him.

"Here we go." Steve said as they both pressed their time travel devices.

They were gone, leaving Scott all by himself.
