Chapter 2

Almost half a year had passed since Jason had become a member of the pack. The stripling of a lad had easily overshot his brothers and sisters and soon became Lupa's favorite. It could also be because he just radiated a kind of quiet power and he was soon known to fry his nearest pack members if anyone contested with him for a share of the food. Seeing his rapid rise in the wolf ranks Lupa decided to start training him to recognize who he was really meant to be.

"Come with me pup. Very soon I shall send you to your kin where you might be able to find a place until you..." her voice trailed off.

Jason was still a kid, but the melancholy in her voice made him suspect that he was not going to have a happy future. In fact, it was almost as if she knew that his journey would be cut short. He was jolted back to reality when he heard Lupa beckon him

"You have been trained well pup. It is now just the beginning of your long journey to camp. Follow the trail southward. You will receive help just this once. After that you are on your own"

Jason watched as Lupa moved away. He didn't want to lose her. He sensed that what she said was true. He would not be getting help later. His lupine brothers had called him a monster magnet and that he had a strong smell. No matter how much he stood in the rain, he just couldn't seem to lose the trademark stink of 'Half Bloods'.

Harsh, he thought as he stood in the cold wintry air. He had been travelling for almost a week, and he was starting to lose his consciousness. It might have been his imagination, but he thought that he saw a beautiful face, with coffee colored eyes but without any of the warmth in the column of snow that swirled around him. She frowned at him and he felt the temperature drop. Just as suddenly, the skies rumbled and the snowstorm stopped immediately.

"Next time hero," the snow seemed to say as the storm subsided.

Even that brief exposure to cold made him feel dizzy. He felt his senses shutting down. In the distance, he saw a group of people fighting  a dark form. As he watched, one of them hacked down a smoky horse. The wind released from the spirit made him black out completely.

"It must be him," a voice said.

"He's just a kid John,'' said another.

"It must be him. A kid being sought out by Boreas himself? Definitely a powerful one," John replied.

And with that the young men carried Jason away from the place though they failed to notice a lady who stood in a self satisfied way as she saw her champion begin his journey.

This would be very interesting, she thought. And with that she dissolved into the air just like that, though she would later be back to haunt Jason.
