Chapter 5: True Intentions
A.S-[Ad Stella] Year 115
After the fall of the Vanadis group and the witch hunt for Gundams and their pilots, the survivors of the attacks retreated to Mercury where they went into hiding and blended among the miner population on the planet. Whilst they were hiding and avoiding suspicion for the past fourteen years, their research and development of their mobile suits continued on as Elnora and Emily, the two successors of Doctor Cardo, their mentor, would lead the group and slowly continued the development of the Aerial Gundam that Elnora and her daughter escaped to Mercury on. Emily was shocked when she saw that her best friend was the only one able to escape along with her daughter, Ericht, but what she couldn't believe was that it was Eri who managed to activate the Lfrith prototype. However, with how young Eri was when she activated the Lfrith, the data storm was too strong for her child body, and Elnora told Emily that Ericht had passed away. Emily felt sorry for her friend, but what she didn't know was the inhumane tactics and experiments that Elnora stooped into to preserve the Lfrith. While Elnora was welcomed into Emily's group of survivors, she still didn't tell them the whole truth about what happened to Ericht and Lfrith. For the past fourteen years Emily aided her friend in building a new corporation from the ground-up to cover up and further conceal the development of Lfrith, which had now been renamed to Aerial. The two women stayed as close as they could, but ever since the incident, Emily and Elnora never had the same relationship they did before. Emily would barely ever see her friend, and not wanting to let the efforts of Doctor Cardo and the rest of her team die in vain, Emily put the research of the Psycho-frame and her mobile suits on ice until the development of the GUND-Format was completed. Even with her heart and mind redirected to finishing her mentor's wish, Emily found time for herself as she married Casval and had a family with him and her current son, Darren. At the early year of 105, Emily was pregnant with her second child and later that year, she gave birth to a young healthy boy who she gave the name, Y/N. Once she had a new addition to her family, Emily stepped down from the research development group in order to take on a less important role in the group so she could spend time nurturing her young son. Right now, Emily was walking through a field that she knew her son frequented to play in, and was looking around trying to find him.
"Y/N! It's time to go home!" Emily cupped her hands around the sides of her mouth as she walked on a path above the grassy field below.
"Momma!" Emily smiled when she heard your voice call back to her as she looked down at the field to see you run out of the grass patch.
"Your father and brother are waiting. Let's hurry home before dinner gets--!" Emily cut herself off as a surprised look appeared on her face.
When you came out of the grass patch you were playing in, you were not alone as another child had come running out behind you as the two of you laughed while heading to your mother. When and the other child climbed up the hill and ran on the dirt path towards your mother, Emily finally got a good look to see who this child she never met before was. It was a young girl with a familiar shade of red hair and blue eyes that gave her a nostalgic feeling.
"Momma! This is my new friend!" You said to her as you two stopped in front of your mother and the young girl gave her a bright smile.
"H-Hello! I'm Suletta!" The girl introduced herself as your mother was surprised, but returned her a kind smile.
"Hello, Suletta. Were you playing with my Y/N?" Emily asked the young girl.
"Y-Yeah! We had a lot of fun!" Suletta said as Emily patted her on the head.
"I see, thank you for being friends with my son." Emily gave her appreciation as Suletta couldn't help but bashfully giggle from the head pat. "Suletta, are your parents around? It's getting late, and I don't want to send you off home alone." She said as someone else spoke up.
"There's no need to worry about that..." Emily froze up when she heard this familiar voice as she looked up ahead to see Elnora stood opposite of her as she wore a grey suit, and her red hair was much longer now.
"Elnora..." Emily muttered in shock of seeing her friend.
"It's been a while, hasn't it, Emily? Ten years, no?" Elnora said with a smile on her face, but Emily held a stoic look on hers as she didn't think the smile her old friend had was a genuine one.
"Yes...It's been a while since me and my family stepped away from the group..." Emily said as Suletta ran up to her mother.
"Momma! You came to pick me up?! Yay!" Suletta called out with joy as she hugged Elnora's legs.
"I managed to free up some time, so I thought we'd spend the night together. Is that okay?" Elnora asked as her daughter's face lit up like a christmas tree.
"Yeah! I have so much to tell you!" Suletta said before remembering something important. "Ohh! Oh! This is my friend, Y/N!" Suletta said while pointing her finger at you.
"Y/N, huh? Thank you for being kind to my daughter." Elnora said as she gave you a smile.
"Huh? O-Oh, yeah! Playing with Suletta was fun!" You responded to her, but grew surprised when your mother took hold of your shoulders gently and pulled you close to her.
"We should set up a little play date and let our kids enjoy themselves. Sounds nice, doesn't it, Emily?" Elnora said as Emily returned a smile to her.
"Sure, it'd be great to catch up with you, also. How are things with the group? I hope that mine and Casval's leaving didn't cause any interruptions in the development of the project." Emily said as Elnora shook her head.
"No, we're proceeding along just fine with things. If you'd like, feel free to come and visit the facility, I'm sure everyone would be glad to see you again." Elnora offered as Emily nervously smiled.
"Thank you, Elnora...You really haven't changed much, have you?" Emily said as both hers and Elnora's faces turned serious and sharp as the two stared each other down as darkness fell over the land and the only light source were those that belonged to the street lights strung along the path.
"Momma?" Suletta muttered as she stared up at her mom in wonder of why she looked so serious.
"Oh, sorry, Suletta. I zoned out for a moment." Elnora said as she looked back to Emily with a smile. "Would you like to join us for dinner? We can talk about old times at my home." She offered.
"No, thank you. My husband and Y/N's brother are waiting for us at home. I'll drop by the lab tomorrow though." Emily said as Elnora's kind look turned to one of seriousness as Emily nervously grinned at her. "Like you said, it'd be nice to see everyone again. Goodnight, Elnora." Emily said as she walked away with you in hand.
"Yes, good night, Emily." Elnora said as she turned around and led Suletta back home.
After returning home with you and having dinner together with everyone, Emily was sat in bed with her arms crossed as she had a troubled look on her face. Memories her and Elnora arguing and getting into constant verbal disputes flashed in her head before the last image of her leaving the lab surface to the front of her memories. The last time she and Elnora saw each other was their worst fight and after seeing her again, Emily felt uneasy about the air she had around her.
"What's the matter?" Emily was snapped out of her trance as she turned to see Casval standing in the doorway of their bathroom as he walked out in red black pajama pants, shirtless with a towel wrapped around his neck as he tied his hair that was much longer than before.
"I saw Elnora today." Emily said as this surprised Casval while he put his wedding ring back on his finger.
"Elnora? Where?" Casval asked as he pulled the towel off his neck and sat on his side of the bed.
"When I went to find Y/N. Suletta, that girl Y/N was telling us about at dinner, that was Elnora's daughter." Emily said as began to ponder his thoughts. "Casval, I remember meeting Eri before we left Fólkvangr for Palau. Suletta looks exactly like her if Eri grew up to the age of ten." She said as Casval looked back to his wife.
"But Elnora's daughter was already dead and we watched her bury Eri. It's improbable that her second child looks the same as her first if she remarried and had a child with a different man." Casval laid out the improbabilities of Eri being this Suletta girl as Emily tensed up.
"...Unless she did something that was deemed illegal and immoral." Emily said as Casval grew a troubled look on his face as well as he turned towards her.
"The Repli-Child project." Casval said as Emily stood up from bed.
"Suletta had traits that were distinct to Elnora's husband, Nadim, as well. It's the only explanation for that girl..." Emily said as she covered her mouth and felt sick from this deduction. "Elnora...what have you done...?" She whimpered and trembled as Casval stood up and went to her side.
"Did Elnora say anything else?" Casval asked her.
"No, but the feeling that she gave off...I don't think she's stopped her obsessions about the Aerial and its development. She still had the same eyes as the last time I saw her when I learned of what she was doing to the Lfrith." Emily said as Casval looked confused.
"Why though? Why concentrate so much on the Gundam that only your daughter was able to pilot? If all she wanted was her daughter, then what's pushing her to continue the development of the Aerial?" Casval wondered as Emily walked to her closet and opened it up.
"I don't know, but I'm going to find out." Emily said as she dug out her old lab coat and credentials.
"Wait." Casval grabbed onto Emily's wrist as she turned to him and he took her I.D. card away. "I'll do it. After all, I believe I'm the one out of the two of us that's more suited for a job like this. You're the one who made me this way, anyways." Casval said as Emily looked annoyed by that remark.
"That may be True. After out experiments on Palau and the beginning of our secret project, Project: NewType, putting you through countless trials and turning you into a Cyber NewType, you've displayed heightened abilities in all departments and can even understand the feelings of those around you. You are probably better suited to investigate this..." Emily admitted as she remembered Casval volunteering as a subject to her tests and enhancements many years ago.
"That's why--!" Casval was about to further prove his argument, but Emily didn't allow him.
"That's why I have to be the one to do this." Emily said as Casval was surprised by her statement. "I don't believe Elnora is simply up to something no good...She's giving me dangerous worries and I fear that if I stick my nose too deep into what she has planned, she may come after us and our children. If that happens, you must be the one to protect our boys. Is that clear?" Emily said as Casval seemed conflicted.
"Emily..." Casval muttered as Emily made her face even more stern.
"This is an order from your superior and your wife. Understood?" Emily said as Casval seemed to give up on the argument.
"I understand." Casval said as Emily's face returned to a gentle and guilty look as she leaned up and kissed Casval.
"I'm sorry, Casval..." Emily apologized as she hugged him and he wrapped his arms around her.
"Just be careful. If you suspect Elnora is up to something..." Casval trailed off as he pulled away and cupped his hands on Emily's face. "You run." He said to her.
"Yes...I will." Emily said as the two of them embraced one another and the lights in your home turned dark as the couple waited for morning to come.
After their talk last night and getting some needed sleep, the next morning came and Emily walked out of hers and Casval's room wearing her old lab work clothes and lab coat as she clipped her I.D. tag on her coat pocket near her chest. While she was changing, you were laying on the floor watching a tv show with Darren while Casval was on his phone in the kitchen.
"Momma!" You called out as you got up from the floor and ran up to your mother as this was the first time you saw her like this. "Whoa, where'd you get this costume? You look like a scientists from the anime I watch on tv!" You exclaimed as Emily smiled.
"That's right, you've never seen me before in this, have you? Your Momma actually used to be a scientist." Emily said as you had stars in your eyes.
"Huh? Really?! That's so cool!" You exclaimed as you lifted the bottom of her lab coat up and down playfully, but then something popped in your head. "Huh? Does that mean you quit the other job you had?" You asked her.
"No, I'm just going to the place I used to work before I got my new job." Emily said as she crouched down a fixed your wrinkled shirt.
"Why? Do they want you back?" You asked as she tensed up from the question, but relaxed a moment later.
"No, I'm not going back there to work. I'm just going to see some old friends of your Momma and Poppa." Emily said as Casval walked out of the kitchen.
"I made a call to an acquaintance I know who's ex-military. I trust him enough to know he'll help us lay low while you're out there." Casval said your mother turned back to you.
"Okay, Y/N, you and your brother are going on a little trip with your father. How does that sound?" Emily asked as you smiled brightly.
"Really? Where?" You asked as Casval placed a hand on your shoulder as he smiled at you.
"We're gonna go take a look at some old stuff your mother and I stored away. I think there may be some stuff that's useful for the house if we can find it. Think of it like a treasure hunt." Casval said as your eyes twinkled.
"Treasure hunt?! Let's go!" You yelled as you ran to your room to get changed.
"Mom." Emily heard as she turned to Darren who had a worried look on his face. "Are you sure about going there? You said that it might be dangerous..." Darren said as he was aware of the true objective for Emily's trip.
"I did say that...But I'm more than confident that nothing will happen. I wanna still believe that my old friend is in there. Somewhere inside of her, Elnora must still have some semblance of her old self. I'm counting on that part of her to keep me safe." Emily said as she walked over to a small shelf full of pictures of your family at your happiest moments, but one picture frame was flipped down on its face.
"That's too reckless, though, isn't it? If your friend really is doing something that's not good, couldn't it attract the bad people that were after all of us before? I don't wanna lose you, Dad, or Y/N..." Darren laid out his worries to his parents as Elnora flipped up the picture that was laid on its face, and revealed an old photo of her and Elnora as young teenagers as they posed for a selfie picture.
"Darren..." Emily spoke up as Darren's attention was fully directed at her as Emily took hold of the old picture of her and Elnora and turned around with it, looking at her old friend longingly. "I'm going to tell you something that I want you to take with you for the rest of your life. Listen closely, okay?" She said as Darren just nodded as she walked over to her eldest son. "You know...Humans are different from animals. We're supposed to respect the lives of others. And yet, we adults have caused pointless bloodshed. Not only that, but we devoured the Earth's resources and then sought new ones in space. Humanity must control itself and regain its dignity in order to revive the hope that was born a all those years ago..." Emily trailed off as Casval placed a hand on Darren's shoulder.
"Through the possibilities that lay within, we will demonstrate the power and compassion of humanity." Casval continued as he and his wife gave each other gentle looks before Emily took Darren's hand.
"Humanity alone possesses a God. The power to transcend the now...the inner God called 'Possibility'. Trust in the possibilities within, and try with all your might to do what you feel you ought to do." Emily said as she held Darren's hands lovingly in her own as she pressed the back of his hand against her cheek.
"W-What does that mean?" Darren asked.
"This is the prayer that I and your father lived our lives by every day until we were forced to come to Mercury. The God we pray to is the possibility that lies within each and everyone of us, called Possibility. I live my life believing in the things I do and trying with all my might to do what I feel is right. When we had your brother, your father and I sought a new life, one that was quiet where we could raise you two and give you normal lives, but I'm sorry, after today...I don't know if things will go back to normal. Even so, I must go and see Elnora...If she's done something that has gone too far, it has to be me to be the one to set it right and bring her back." Emily said as she leaned down and kissed Darren's head. "I hope that no matter what you do with your life, Darren, you can live by these words and go through your life believing in the actions you do." She said to him.
"Yeah, I will..." Darren said as she smiled at him before sliding the picture out of the frame and placing it in her coat pocket.
"I have to go." Emily said as she gave him one last kiss and then gave a kiss to Casval.
"Come back soon." Casval said as she gave him one last long kiss before breaking away and heading to the door.

After saying bye to her family, Emily took her car and drove far from her small hometown and into the barren lands of the desert. It was about forty to forty five minutes since she left the town and drove into what seemed like a desert, but while driving, there was a mountain range that she could see and at the base of the mountain was a security check point with a large steel door going inside the rocky formation. Once she made it to the checkpoint, a security guard came up to the window where she flashed him an image of her I.D. badge. With one wave of their hand, an alarm blared as yellow flashing lights switched on above the door, and the steel entrance slowly began to open. Once her access was granted, Emily parked inside and got out of her vehicle and put on a pair of glasses. On the bezels of the glasses, a small camera was secretly recording as she clicked pressed a button on a recorder inside of her coat pocket and began recording her findings as she walked about the facility.
"Emily" Emily heard someone call out as she turned to see Elnora walking towards her with. "I'm glad you decided to come. Come let's take a look around, I'm sure you wanna catch up with the rest of our old friends, right?" She asked her.
"I wanna see it." Emily said as Elnora seemed slightly caught off guard by Emily's bluntness.
"What do you mean?" Elnora asked her.
"Take me to it. Aerial." Emily said as Elnora just gave a small giggle to her.
"Straight to business, I see. This way." Elnora said as she walked towards towards and Emily followed suit.
Following Elnora through the facility, Emily took notice of a few familiar faces from the old day when she was still working with them, but most of the workers she met in there were unfamiliar people to her. Emily walked through the halls and made a few turns before she and her stood in front of a lift and entered to go up to a higher level. While the two of them stood in the lift, silence was all that filled the small space as the two of them avoided looking at each other.
"How has Casval been?" Elnora asked her.
"Fine." Emily answered.
"And Darren, how old is he now?" Elnora asked another question.
"18." Emily responded.
"Our conversations have really shortened over time, haven't they?" Elnora said as Emily grew irritated.
"Elnora." Emily said her name as she turned her head towards her, and her old friend turned her head to her as the two stared at each other. "Are you still pursuing your revenge against Delling?" She asked her as Elnora remained silent. "I can't understand the turmoil that losing your family would cause you, but even so...The GUND-format that we were being forced to research was inhumane and--!" Emily was trying to speak but Elnora cut her off.
"The GUND-format is what will save lives and change this world forever." Elnora said as she turned her head back forward. "Delling killed my family and our teacher. He deprived us of so many of our beloved friends. Our work brings us closer and closer to our objective of vengeance. I will obtain it no matter how long it takes." Elnora said as Emily looked at her in shock.
"Elnora, you--AGH!" Emily screamed as Elnora suddenly hit the emergency switch on the lift and pinned her against the wall.
Elnora grabbed the glasses off of Emily's face and threw them to the ground before reaching into her coat pocket and throwing her recorder against the wall, smashing it to pieces. Emily was wide eyed in shock and fear was slowly creeping over as Elnora just smiled at her.
"Emily, we're friends, aren't we? We're also both carrying the hopes and desires that our friends left us with. Don't you hear them?" Elnora said as the lift suddenly turned back on and began to moving again as Emily whimpered when she suddenly got closer to her ear. "Avenge our deaths...Kill that man Delling...I can hear them whispering to me every night and day. Isn't it our duties to not let their deaths be in vain? Come back, Emily. Together, we can create a better world." Elnora's whisper was terrifying her friend as the doors to lift opened.
"L-Let me go!" Emily yelled as she pushed Elnora off of her and ran out of the lift.
"Emily, nothing can stop the future of what's to come with the GUND-format. Soon, our work will change everything as we know it, and it all starts with her." Elnora said while looking up as Emily slowly followed her gaze and turned to see the Gundam Aerial as it glowed blue light from the permet installed in its frame.
"What is...that light?" Emily said in confusion.
"That's her..." Elnora trailed off as she walked towards the Gundam with a gentle smile. "...my precious daughter." She said as Emily felt her heart sink to her stomach.
"You're...daughter...? You didn't--!" Emily was cut off as Elnora threw her hands up to Aerial.
"Eri lives on in the data storm, she's the succession of all our cumulated efforts, and soon, we will build a new world for her." Elnora proclaimed as an electrical hum sounded from the Aerial in almost a gentle tone. "I'll ask one more time, Emily..." She said as Emily watched Elnora slowly turn around and extend a hand to her. "Come back to us." She said.
"Elnora...you've lost your mind..." Emily said as Elnora just smiled.
"Anything for my darling daughter. I won't let anyone stand in our way, not even you." Was all Elnora said as Emily didn't waste anymore time.
Without saying anything else, Emily made a run for the lift and ran as fast as she could to escape from this place. After running through the facility, Emily got into her car and sped out of there as fast as she could as she began to drive through the desert at high speeds. While making her escape, Emily looked in her rear view mirrors and was shocked to see two black vehicles pursuing after her. Fearing for her life now, Emily took her phone out and pressed a few buttons before a call to Casval was made.
"Emily? Where are you?" Casval asked her.
"Casval! They're chasing me!" Emily yelled into her phone as she saw them getting closer in her rear view mirrors.
"Head to the coordinates I'm sending you. I'm on my way." Casval said before the line ended and the screen on her phone displayed a route for her to follow.
Seeing the destination that Casval sent, the GPS on Emily's phone was directing her to a barren flat portion of the desert as she turned right and began travelling east. From the two black cars that were following her, two men from each rear passenger window poked themselves out the windows and pulled out pistols as they took aim and began firing. Emily screamed as she heard bullets whiz by her car, bouncing off the steel and breaking the rear windshield of her car. Ducking low to try and avoid the bullets, Emily could barely see anything in front of her as she was just following the route Casval sent to her, but while driving in an awkward position, Emily didn't see a rock that was protruding out of the ground due to the sandy plains of Mercury as it concealed the rock that she was barreling towards. Closer and closer Emily inched towards the hidden rock, and moments later, her right tire collided with the obstacle at full speed, kicking the vehicle sending it into a deathroll. Emily screamed as she held on for dear life inside her car as bits and pieces of it flew off in all directions. After about 3 more harsh rolls against the ground, the car finally came to a stop on its roof. The pursuing cars stopped a few meters away as Emily painfully crawled out of the wreckage with a bloody nose and blood dripping down her head. Four men from one of the cars got out and began heading towards Emily with pistols drawn from their holsters while Emily whimpered while crawling away.
"Darren....Y/N...!" Emily groaned as she crawled across the sandy ground. "H-Help me...Casval..." Emily cried as she desperately tried to get away, but due to her injuries and a concussion, there was no way of escape for her now.
When her situation was looking grim, all Emily could think about was Casval and her two boys as she feared never seeing you three again. Just as she thought the end was near as she heard the steps of her pursuers grow closer and closer, a strange noise caught the men's attention. The sound of a beam rifle being fired sounded through the air and they turned to see a yellow beam shot destroy their car and the vehicle that their back up was in. A strong gust of wind kicked dust through the entire area as they blown away from Emily, and the injured struggled to see what was going on as she covered her face from getting dust in her eyes. Holding on to the ground with her hand dug into the sand below, Emily was shocked when she looked up to see the Sinanju slowly descend towards her. Once the red mobile suit touched ground, the hatch opened and popped out her husband who wore a thruster pack and was armed with a pistol.
"Emily!" Casval yelled as he jumped down using his thruster pack.
"C-Casval...!" Emily cried out as her husband descended down in front of her.
"How bad are you injured?" Casval said as he gently took her into his arms.
"I-I can't move...I think my leg...it's broken!" Emily groaned in pain.
"Don't worry. We're going home." Casval said as Emily took notice of something.
Behind Casval, the men who were chasing her began running towards her as one of them aimed their pistols at Casval. With worry filling her heart and mind, Casval suddenly also felt and sensed this danger as he moved his head to the right, and just in time as a bullet whizzed pass him. Aiming behind him, Casval fired his pistol, striking two of them remaining four men as the other two hit the ground in an attempt to not get shot. With an angered face, Casval picked his wife up in one of his arms and controlled his thruster pack with his free arm as he flew back up to the cockpit of his mobile suit. The clanging noises of bullets striking the mobile suit made Emily flinch as she clung to Casval, and not wasting another moment, Casval climbed inside with Emily and closed the hatch as Sinanju came back online. Sitting her in the jump seat he had quickly installed inside, Casval took back control of Sinanju as his targeting systems locked on to the remaining two men and his beam rifle powered on. The two men feared for their lives as they tried to run, but one with shot, Casval burned the two dead and two living men into ashes as there was an explosion of dust. Turning around to the car Emily crashed, he also destroyed it as he left nothing left for investigation and took off for safety. Flying low through the desert to avoid laser radar detection, Casval flew fast as Emily groaned in her seat.
"C-Casval..." Emily called to him as he turned towards her.
"Don't talk. Just rest for now until we get to safety." Casval said to her as she grabbed onto his arm, making him look towards her.
"E-Elnora...Her daughter never died...She turned her into the Aerial!" Emily said with heavy breaths.
"What? Why would she do that?" Casval said in shock as he veered Sinanju around a mountain.
"I-It was probably the only way...to save her soul..." Emily coughed as she opened her eyes with sadness. "Now that the Aerial is complete, she's working towards something that could cost a lot of people their lives. Not just for the sake of revenge...but to create a world that her daughter can be free in..." She said as Casval flew them to a remote mountain far from the city they lived in. "With what we know about the Aerial, I don't think anyone can stop her. No one except..." She trailed off as a hatch disguised as a rock on top of the mountain opened and they began to descend.
"Us." Casval said as he entered the hidden facility and the hatch above closed.
"Right now, we don't have the strength to combat her and any allies she's made during the years we've been away. If we want any chance to stop her, we have to build our strength and numbers...we have to wait until we're ready..." Emily said as the Sinanju was docked into its maintenance station and ahead of them, a three mobile suit sized boxes were locked in their stations with yellow tape going across all the containers. "I hoped to seal them away forever until I found a proper way to destroy them...but now they're our only hope..." She said as Casval pressed a few buttons on his console, and the middle container ahead of them slowly began to open. "I'm sorry, Casval...Our ordinary lives have to come to an end here..." She apologized as Casval took gentle hold of her hand.
"I'm with you, Emily. Until the end." Casval said as the container now fully opened and ahead of them, they stared at the machine that would help them stop the dark future that Elnora is propelling humanity towards.
"RX-0...Unicorn Gundam!" Emily spoke the name of this beast as the machine was set free for the first time since its creation, and would be a key factor to the fate of all humans.
