The Price

The water pierced the grime that coated my skin, it was a relief to finally feel the soothing heat of the shower. Steam built up around me masking the tears that had begun to fall. I stayed in the stream of water until i was interrupted by a harsh knock on the door.

"Hey are still alive, or have you drowned in there." Asked a surprisingly light voice which could of only come from Jimin, the flirty guy I had met at the dinner. His question made me smile as I thought about how someone could possibly drown in a shower.

"Hey! Can't someone shower in peace around here?" I replied, my voice harsher than I had intended it to be. His footsteps retreated quickly leaving me alone once again. I sighed and turned the shower off, I shivered slightly and looked down at my skinny body. The crock of my elbow was scarred from the hundreds of needles I had used to inject poison into my veins. My body lacked the healthy layer of fat most people had, my ribs were too evident, my face too hallow.

"Well I'm not trying to impress anyone" I scoffed as I pulled an oversized sweater over my head, another shiver ran through my body. Damnit I needed another dose. Panic started to  fill my body as I pulled on some sweatpants and stumbled bare footed out into the hall.

"Hey calm down" yelled Jimin as I barrelled into him. We fell to the floor and I could feel the air leave his lungs due to the collision. His laugh filled the room, it was full of joy, like the laugh of a jovial innocent. I blushed slightly as I pushed myself off of his well built chest. He smiled, a smile that could melt the iciest of hearts. I pushed myself to my feet as he rose to his feet as well.

"So, now that you are done killing me I'm supposed to bring you to Namjoon," he explained while he dusted his pants off, I smiled in an attempt to apologize. He turned his back on me and started to walk down the dark hallway. He was well built, Muscles evident on his shoulders, legs and arms. The lights flickered giving me an instant headache and another shiver flowed through my muscles.

"Hey are you okay?" Jimin asked in his impossibly light voice. I nodded slightly edging my body to continue moving, every movement took more effort than the last. My body was fatigued, exhausted without being used. This was one of the worst effect of the drug, the moment the poison left the users body they fell. I sighed and fought my way forward. Jimin smiled softly and took my arm helping me along. He was stable, and way too kind for this world. I smiled in return.

We stopped outside of Namjoon's lab and I entered without asking, I wanted to sit down, but I needed the drug. My eyes were assaulted by the bright overhead lights, as I stepped into the overly white lab. Namjoon stood at the furthest desk his  head down in concentration. I looked over to Jimin only to find that he had left me to fend for myself.

"So umm... What do you want from me?" I asked timidly as I lowered myself into the closest chair. He didn't respond, he only grunted. I stared at him and sighed, he was at peace, his shoulders relaxed and his brow furrowed slightly. I continued to watch him, the silence seemed to pulse against my ears.

Another chill ran through my body causing me to shiver, I needed more. Instinct, or maybe fear caused me to rush to my feet. I started to search the lab, beakers bubbled happily and the benson burners fed their flames. Everything was clean but hectic at the same time, almost every beaker was full of a different solution but every solution was carefully labeled. The test tubes were all organized, and every station was methodological.

"Don't bother searching... Why look when you won't find it anyway" Namjoon mumbled from behind his current experiment. I froze, his voice was so smooth like velvet but sharp like a hidden blade. I sunk down to the floor as the last of the drug was exhausted, I no longer had the strength to fight.

A cold numbness began to soak through my body, every cell in which composed me seemed to to turn to ice. I could no longer breath as the numbness began to thaw, replaced by excruciating pain. Tears fell freely down my cheeks, I lacked the strength to wipe them away. Darkness consumed my vision and the silence was only broken by the slow footsteps coming towards me.

The light seemed to burn my retinas as I pried my eyelids open. My body felt like lead and a deep hunger had set below my ribs. The table below me was icy cold and the air seemed too dry to breathe freely. I lay in a small metal bed kept in the far corner of Namjoon's lab, everything was clean and pearly white. Too clean, to white. I sighed heavily and attempted to sit up.

"Shit!" I cursed as the effort caused my abdominal muscles to rip, I tried again and swore louder. I fell back to the cold table weakly as an ache began to build behind my eyes. I attempted to lift myself up again and failed yet again, I had nothing left. My body had not yet recovered from the night before and my needs for the drug was overwhelming.

"You really are pathetic without that drug," stated Namjoon from across the room "but I guess that's the problem with this addiction. It rips people apart, destroys their lives and then leaves them begging for more. Every dose is another step towards death, every dose causes the user more pain. In my opinion it's a rather terrible price for temporary happiness" he continued to walk slowly towards where I lay. Every second caused the lump that had formed in my stomach to grow larger, more consuming. I squirmed helpless as Namjoon ran his fingers down my cheek.

"I need you, I need you to help me"
