The Dreamer
I continued to wander through the night, my thoughts numbed by the drug, it was peaceful, calming. The sky was bright and the stars fought their way through the smog, appearing as small specs of white against the darkness. The moon, an orb casting shadows of the unlit street lights, peaceful, empty.
"So finally decided to leave eh?" Came a dark voice from behind, soft footsteps broke the silence, "you'd never believe how boring it can be, tailing a girl like you." Tailing me?, why? I froze and panic filled my veins again. It was Just like before, I was victim, helpless in the dark empty streets. A bitter laugh crashed against my ears as the footsteps grew closer.
"Why? What do you want with me?" I asked struggling to keep my voice from trembling. The footsteps stopped, he stood behind me, only an inch away. His breath hot against my neck, a shiver traveled down my spine with every breath.
"Well you see, I want nothing to do with you" he whispered disturbingly close to my ear. "But I follow my orders, so when you decided to search Jin hyung's belongings and leap out of that window I was told to be your shadow. Of course who would think a little girl like you would be mixed up in Jackson's shit." His voice stayed calm but acidic, every syllable was full of hate, hate for Jackson.
"Jackson? You know Jackson?" I stuttered, my brain numbed by fear. It was stupid, I should of lied. I could of claimed to be nothing but a lowly whore, uninformed, useless to a guy like this. With the mention of Jackson's name the unnamed man stiffened, tension pouring off of his shoulders.
"Jackson! Of course I know that prick!" His temper was lost as he balled his hands into tight fists, the knuckles becoming white. The blow came quickly, unpredictable, his kick hit the back of my knees sending me to the asphalt. Another kick landed piercing my abdomen, the pain spread quickly through my body, muscles and brain.
"Hmm you really are pathetic, I guess that's what becomes of you after you let that poison consume you". He stood over me a sick grin across his face, his pupils dilated within his dark eyes. It was obvious, he knew of the drug, he knew its effect on its mind. "Anyway the boss has a use for you, so get up" he gripped my hair and roughly pulled me to my feet, "besides you owe us for what you took"
With that he released my hair and took me by my arm, leading me down towards Bighit street. The walk was silent, tense and painful. His grip remained tight, and his shoulders stiff.
"So, who are you anyway? And why do you hate Jackson?" I asked trying to break the ice. He shrugged in response and continued to walk his anger evident in his steps. After what seemed like a lifetime of silence we stopped at the house. The house I had escaped only 24 hours before, looking down at my watch I sigh, I had three hours to get back to mark.
He knocked once, twice, then before the third one the door flung open, behind it stood a younger man, his hair shaggy and brown. Unlike the one who held me captive this one still had the gift of youth. His eyes were clear and skin smooth, he smiled slightly as we entered and lead the way down the hall .
The house was spacious and clean, unlike Jackson's hideout there were no strung out people littering the floors, no strangers hiding their addiction. the house had little furniture, a dove white sofa and a television set made the living room. The kitchen had a long table seven chairs circled it and a vase of lilies sat as a centrepiece.
"Hey, stop staring, let's go" the man at my elbow commanded while pushing me further into the foreign space. "Namjoon wanted you hours ago" he mumbled, almost as if he was lecturing himself. He stopped in front of the last door as the younger man unlocked it, "now don't touch anything okay" he instructed as he lead the way.
The room was large, white walls, floors, lights, so bright. I blinked several times adjusting to the new surroundings. The room contained desks covered in vials, test tubes, flasks, beakers, samples, a chemists dream. At the furthest desk stood a man, he was tall and lean. I was lead straight to this new man, I guess this is Namjoon.
"Ahh Suga, I guess you did bring her back" he spoke, his voice clear and intoxicating. He looked up at the man he called Suga and continued to speak, his voice seemed to carry everything, every emotion. "You can go now, If I'm not mistaken it's time for your dose." Suga flinched at his words and stormed off, the younger man followed.
"So you are probably wondering why I brought you back" he stated while he redirected his attention to the test in front of him. "It's simple really, you have access to something I want, meaning you are useful to me". I listen intently and lean casually against the counter.
"What is it you want?" I ask curiosity bubbling within, he smiled slightly as he continued to work in silence. "Seriously what do you want, and what are you going to give me in return?" His smile grew and he continued to work.
"Just tell me! Otherwise I'll just leave!" I exclaimed impatience taking over. "People are curious aren't they, they all have their price, their priorities, and of course their flaws. Let's take you for example, you're impatient, you can't stay still in uncertainty for more than five minutes. You're a fighter, cocky, you don't value your life, yet you are willing to die for those you love. But then again you are hocked on the itch, meaning you still believed that there was some hope in this world, and you keep fighting, you are to scared to die." He looked over his experiment into my eyes,
"What I want from you is complicated, but what I can pay you isn't, if you comply, follow my orders, never disobey me I'll succeed." He explained his eyes falling slowly to the test in front of him. "If it works, if this works" he let his words drift off as he began to work again.
"What can you give me, what will you have if you succeed?" I asked curiosity overwhelming me.
He smiled, a genuine smile, one of a dreamer, hope. "If this works, I can give you the cure"
