29| Real life

CELINE BEVIS CLIPPED on her earrings with pursed lips while thinking of how her search came to a dead end. She had asked three of her boyfriend's most trusted friends and none of them knew what was going on. Nor had they even noticed that Fergal was acting strangely until she mentioned it.

Bayley said maybe she was being paranoid and that he'll tell her and that it probably wasn't a big deal. Kevin said that he probably stole her pizza again and that his guilt was finally catching up to him. Rami, however, he grew worried because he was closest to Fergal.

"I don't know what it might be, but I guarantee that it can't break you too." were his words as the ginger tried to reassure her.

"I know, but I've never seen him like that. It was like... He was afraid that I would break if he told me." she admitted lowly with tears in her eyes. Tucking the loose strands from her messy bun behind her ears, she looked to the skies, praying for some sort of answer from the heavens above. "I just don't want to lose him again, Rami."

With him, she'd had some wonderfully stable times. Fergal Devitt meant more to her than any man she'd ever known. She gave him her heart, trusting his ability, his strength, his loyalty, his being, his love. She blindly gave him her heart because that is all she could do after being starved of him for so long.

Yet now, at the back of her mind, she wondered if she was right to do so. To trust him so wholeheartedly, to let her soul worship him. The last time she gave her heart to a man, it was shattered.

Many had told her, after finding out that she was dating again, that she was so brave to remain the soft soul she was before Josh. Celine became an inspiration to some who were scared to love, but were even more terrified of loneliness. The way she is now could've been different from back then because of what her ex did. She could've been closed off, cold as ice, hardened and distant. She could've been as desolate as the scorching desert.

But no.

Celine Bevis was a paradise. Warm, filled with love, full of life. With a smile that thaws the ice like the beginning of spring after a long and harsh winter. With a heart purer than gold, it could end wars in an instant. She was literally heaven on earth. Even after suffering, even after crying. She took all that pain and let it wash over her back like water over stone, like it was nothing. There was nothing that can change how she is.

Celine stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her cheeks glowed with a radiant shade of pink and her eyelids a soft lilac dream that whispered innocence to anyone who took their first glance at the Brit. A French braid tied her hair, laying it on her ride shoulder.

Mercedes and Saraya invited her for a girls day out, a time to blow off some steam after weeks of work. She was more than obliged to join them and perhaps, maybe they can help her figure out what was wrong with Finn.

She stood up and headed to the bathroom to look for her hand sanitizer, but jumped at the loud buzzing sound on the dresser. A she stopped to catch her breath, she looked back. The sound came from Fergal's phone.

Then a thought came to her.

Maybe I could take a peak. She immediately shook her head, berating herself for even thinking of invading her boyfriend's privacy like that. But then she's lent him her phone dozens of times when he asked her to and it was usually to take selfies. She knew that he probably surfed through her personal stuff too. She didn't mind for she had nothing to hide. Ok, maybe the old embarrassing conversations between her and Mason about their childhood memories. Now that, she'd pay to keep hidden.

Again, the thought of going through Fergal's phone worried her. What if she found something she might not like? What if there's something he's been hiding this whole time and it might tear them apart again?

Then again, he's a celebrity. Just like her, everyone has skeletons in their closets. He wouldn't be stupid enough to hide the evidence in his phone, in something that could possibly get lost or stolen. Maybe, he's been worrying her for nothing and he's actually planning to surprise her.

The phone vibrated again. That was the last straw. Her willpower dissolved and curiosity took over her moral compass. Celine grabbed it and unlocked it.

Her eyes widened.

 "Celine, have you seen–"

Once again, she felt it. That familiar feeling of something breaking in her chest. Again, her world slowly and deteriorated, yet she wasn't fast enough to try to fix it. It was too much for her to handle.

She stumbled back, dropping the phone to the floor as she registered his voice. When she looked at him, he was standing by the door, eyes widened at her horrified expression.

"I..." Tears dropped to her lips. "I was just..."

The impact of what she'd just read felt like ice rapidly hardening her veins, causing her blood to slow down and come to a stop. The cracks in her heart were coming apart.

"Love, it's not what you think." he stepped forward, his hands reaching out to her, to hold her, to assure her, to remind her of his love. To his shock, she stepped back. Her reaction hurt him more than he could ever imagine. She bolted out of the room without a word, "Wait, Celine!"

Her chest hurt too much. It was hard to breathe. It was hard to think. And it was getting hard to see because tears blurred her vision as she pressed the elevator button. She didn't know which one, she didn't care. She just wanted to get away from Fergal, from everyone.

He was wrong. If he had told her, he wouldn't have lost her. Yes, she would've been hurt. Yes, she would've been hurt. But it would've hurt far less than it did now.

"Hey, what's going on?" Saraya was the first one to rush to her, immediately bringing her into a warm hug. Celine's voice cracked when she finally realeased a sob, her arms wrapping tightly around her big sister's frame.

Saraya, instantly enraged by her sister's tears, tightened her embrace. Whoever did this was surely going to pay. She managed to keep her anger in check, however, and took a deep breath. There was no doubt that Celine would not calm down soon so this was going to take a while. But until then, Saraya was going to get some answers and there will be some bones to break in the near future.

Injured neck or not, nobody was going to hurt her sister and get away with it scotch free. Celine didn't deserve this kind of pain from anyone.

She pulled back, "Why are you crying?"

The older Bevis caught the sight of Pamela and Mercedes laughing and giggling as they strode their way. Maybe they can help. They certainly knew how to put smiles on people's faces. Saraya silently called them over.

Pamela was the first to notice the dark cloud over them and was the first to be at their side, placing her hand on Celine's shoulder. She looked to Saraya, calmly asking what was wrong, only to get no answer. She turned to the weeping girl, "Celine?"

She only looked down. She couldn't face anyone. She didn't want to. But she felt her presence. Mercedes was her, staring, watching the effects of her actions unfold in the form of tears and sobs and utter heartbreak. How could she live with herself? How could she just stand there and do absolutely nothing to amend her mistake? Was she enjoying this?

That seemed to be the case, didn't it? Well, she got what she wanted, didn't she? So why wouldn't she enjoy seeming her in pain? Saraya and Pamela coaxed her to speak, trying and failing to calm her down, but it was no use. There was no going back after what she found out.

The purple haired female's stomach turned in knots when Celine finally seemed to be stirred to life after moments of being in a cold phase. She gulped, a deadly grip of realization seeping into her blood, when the Celine's sorrowful gaze caught hers.

She knows.

There was no doubt about it. And there was no denying that she waited for a physical assault. Her muscles instantly tensed. Her heart sped up as Celine held her gaze. Mercedes was willing to defend herself and she wasn't going to go down without a fight, even if she was in the wrong. What she never would've expected was a few quiet words. A short phrase that none of the other woman understood, but to Mercy, it had a shattering effect to her heart.

"I hope it was worth it, Mercedes."

Pamela's mouth fell agape when Celine slowly stepped back, freeing herself from hers and Saraya's clutches. She watched as the Brit's eyes filled with more tears, not even bothering to rip her gaze away from her best friend, turned and walked away. She and the other Bevis knew better than to follow her.

Instead, Pamela shifted her attention to Mercy, who seemed petrified. AT the corner of her eyes, Saraya was already scowling. It was clear to both of them that Mercedes had something to do with this, but was it that devastating? Was her best friend that much of a monster to hurt Celine like that? Celine, of all people?

Celine, who's  like the nicest person to ever exist? What could she ever done to deserve this?

She turned to Mercedes with pleading eyes, begging, hoping that whatever happened wasn't true. "What did you do?"
