23) What Even Is Logic?
23)What Even Is Logic
I can feel their gazes drilling in on me and my cupcake.
"Can't a girl get some privacy with her food around here?"
My friends are sitting in front of me completely silent. They haven't taken their eyes off me since I had gotten into the car this morning.
I'm trying to understand why they're being so careful with every word they've said. Our conversations have consisted of the topics of weather, Netflix, and hats. These are not interesting things to talk about.
I've also noticed the quick glances they give each other when I'm not looking.
This is what I get for keeping them updated with my uneventful life. When I explained the situation to Charlie he offered to go around to Aaron's house to 'teach him a lesson'. While Zoe's reaction was more appropriate with her offering me a tub of cookie dough ice cream.
I don't blame either of them for stepping around the Aaron subject carefully but come on, I'm almost 18. I think I know how to keep calm and get over situations quickly. I've had a lot of practice not murdering my entire grade for annoying me.
"Did you really take 16 cupcakes from the shop yesterday?" this is the first sentence over five words that they have spoken today. It's kind of a relief because I was scared they were becoming mute.
"Maybe..." I look to see them staring at me in disbelief.
"Do you need 16 cupcakes?" Their eyes flicker between the box of cupcakes and me who has half of one stuffed in my mouth.
Hastily I swallow "Okay, to be fair she was going to throw all 24 beautiful delicious cupcakes in the bin. It's a waste and a criminal offense to chuck out something so tasty. So I just happened to volunteer to take them home... without anyone knowing..." I lick some of the buttercream that had fallen onto my hand.
"I believe that's called stealing," a voice says from behind me. I don't know if I want to acknowledge his presence or not. That would make everything that happened on the weekend more real.
I shovel the rest of the cupcake in my mouth and chew slowly "It's not stealing if the cupcakes willingly came with me, " I counter back, sweeping the crumbs off my lap.
A pair of arms circles around me and hugs me from behind. Yep, that's not creepy or a violation of personal space at all.
"Hello, my favourite math and cooking buddy. Give me some sugar," Lee squeezes me tightly, but that's not what's making me feel like I'm choking. Whatever deodorant that he is wearing is contaminating my personal bubble. Elbowing him in the stomach is my way of telling him to back away before I do something I'll regret.
"I'll give you sugar, diabetes, and death if you don't take three decent steps away from me. Whatever you're wearing is polluting my lungs, " I grumble back. I'm not in the mood for physical touch.
Am I ever?
"You don't like my new cologne? It's supposed to make me irresistible to woman," Lee gives me a toothy grin while attempting to wiggle his eyebrows.
"Yes irresistible, as in I have an overwhelming urge to get as far away from you as possible. At the same time as throwing you into a river with a bar of lavender soap," Maybe I should offer him an air freshener to make him smell better all year round.
Sam takes the awkward silence as an invitation to start a conversation. "Looks like you're stocking up on a whole lot of sugary carbs there Mace. What's the occasion?"
"Well, I believe it was you who inspired me to eat away my feelings. So I chose these cupcakes because they were easily accessible and I want to eliminate any type of memory of yesterday or of he shall not be named." I didn't want any type of reminder about what went down yesterday afternoon so when I saw the cupcakes sitting on the bench at the end of the day I took them as a sign of rebellion and hunger.
Lee slams his fists on the bench, "You know Voldemort? That's wicked! You have to intro-"
"She meant Aaron you idiot," Sam says, punching his friend in the arm he looks back to me "Everything? Like the entire day from start to finish? That's going to take a lot of effort to forget so because I'm such a nice person I will help you destroy any evidence that even yesterday happened," Sam starts to reach over towards my cupcakes but before he gets one I slap his hand.
"What do you think you're doing," I pull the box closer towards me suspiciously.
"Taking a cupcake to help heal your heartbreak?" He squints his eyes then cocks his head not knowing if what he just said was a question or statement.
"I only share with people I like more than food," The part I leave out is that there's nobody I like more than food.
Nobody can ever fill the food shaped hole in my heart.
He raises his eyebrows and looks over to my two best friends who only shrug in response
"We've accepted that she will never like anyone more than food, therefore, she will never share her food. You get used to it after 10 years," they try to explain to Sam in the simplest way possible.
Glaring at my friends I sweep my non-existent fringe away and settle into the uncomfortable metal bench "You know what? I was considering giving you half of a cupcake but as circumstances have risen to show that you are not loyal to me and are not who you say you are, I must ask you to leave otherwise I will escort you away myself." My attempt at being threatening is not working as well as I thought it would.
For some odd reason, I have the urge to jump over the table. So I do. In a very unladylike fashion.
Instinctively, all four of them jump back "How much sugar has she had today?" Sam whispers to Charlie discreetly. Why are they suddenly so interested in my sugar intake for today?
"Only 2 cupcakes, " he replies.
Add-on another three buddy.
"She probably just didn't get enough sleep last night with all that's been on her mind," Zoe gives a logical exclamation but she is incorrect. I had a good 9 hours sleep.
"Shouldn't she be passed out on the ground if that's the case?" Lee suggests.
I feel like saying 'She is right here' but it seems to cliché. Well, it's great to know they're having a discussion about me, without me.
My best friend loops a comforting arm around my shoulder "Let's leave her alone. She's most chance overly tired, it's been a long weekend."
"Oh, I know, " Sam gives me a knowing glare.
Which makes Charlie tenses and look between Sam and I with suspicion. Because I'm so 'overly tired' all I can bother to do is give him the 'we will talk about this later look'.
"I'm sorry to hear about you and Aaron." Lee says sympathetically "If you want I can go set his stupid car on fire. Sam told me about- "
The bell for the end of lunch cut him off before he can finish.
Sam quickly says "I think that's our signal to leave. Let's go Lee, " he drags his friend away by the collar.
"But she didn't answer the question," he wines.
"Suck it up and mind your own business." Sam turns back towards me "I'll see you later Macey". He gives a small smile walking away with Lee in tow.
I start gathering my stuff when I notice my friend's eyes glued on me "What was that all about?" Zoe asks curiously as we start to walk to English.
We weave ourselves through the growing sea of students "I believe two obnoxious males just came up to us. The taller one tried to kill me via suffocation from cologne. The other one with the uncombed hair which looked a lot like the end of a mop tried to take one of my cupcakes, " I think over the previous events.
"I can't believe it," she says under her breath.
"I know! Why would he ever think I would share food with him?" A laugh escapes me while thinking of the impossibility of me sharing food.
"No, " she drawls out "I'm talking about you and Sam, not bickering. It felt weird and unnatural watching the two of you get along. What happened over the weekend that made you guys such great BFF's?" We stop out the front of my classroom.
"Beheaded frog friend?"
"No the other one."
"Oh, you mean the Buffalo's From Finland?"
Zoe sighs in defeat shaking her head "I give up."
I give her a friendly nudge "It's okay Zo you'll always me my SATECLF" she looks even more confused than before "My Super Awesome Taco Eating Cow Loving Friend. "
Zoe walks away without another word.

"So all you did was watch a movie?" Charlie asks me for what felt like the twelfth time in the last 5 minutes
"Yessss. We watched a movie. He gave me a pep talk then he dropped me off at work."
"You promise that's all that happened. By the way what made him confess about the bet in the first place" he plays with the thread on his jumper.
"I cross my heart and hope to diet. And the bet just happened to come up in conversation" lie "and we talked about it like adults" also another lie "you have nothing to worry about." Yeah I'm not so sure about that.
As we reach his car I find Corey leaning against it waiting for us.
"Corey!" I scurry towards to his little sister "I missed you so much. Last time I saw you, your house had been broken into by a rowdy delinquent who looked like a twig."
She scratches the back of her neck "While we're on the subject of the young rowdy delinquent, do you think you could pick him up Charlie." asking sweetly
"Sure why not? I love being a taxi and driving everyone around a chauffeur," He hops into the car, so we follow.
"I knew I could count on you big bro," She pats him on the back from the backseats.
When we pull out Charlie attempts to find a radio station but can only seem to find static
"I forget the guy's name, what was it again John. Jacob. Twiggy? " I can feel the name on the tip of my tongue
"Idiot" Corey suggests.
"Well, I guess y-"
The back door flies open "Princess, " the familiar boy slides into the seat beside Corey. He smiles broadly towards his best friend.
He looks towards me "Crazy lady who attacked me for no reason."
I turn around "In my defence, I had no idea who you were. I was only acting on my amazing defensive reflexes. What was I supposed to do when a total stranger waltzed into my best friend's house without an invitation?"
"I think having keys to their house is invitation enough to let myself in whenever I want."
Corey clears her throat "Yeah yeah I know except for the occasions stated on the contract."
I lift my eyebrows and give Charlie a questionable look. He only shrugs, which tells me he doesn't understand either. "I stopped questioning what exactly Corey and James get up to a long time ago."
I look in the rearview mirror to see the best friends, heads close together, in an in-depth conversation. Aren't they just the cutest?
"So tell me, Cor, Jamie," I turn around to face them "How long have you secretly been in love with each other?"
The two teenager look at each other than back to me with a weird look before instantaneity.
"That's what I thought now get out you two friend zoned love bugs."
We pull up to the community centre "What are you doing here again anyway?" Charlie asks curiously.
James is the one to answer "We're trying out pottery this week for some absurd reason. We're unleashing our artistic side apparently, " he shuts the door behind them.
"Their friendship doesn't make any sense sometimes but it works for them," Charlie says to himself "Now let's get you home."
I start to think:
A List of Illogical things
- People thinking its okay to take my food.
- Apparently being friends with Sam.
- Maths. Especially Trigonometry.
- Corey having a best friend who is most definitely a terrible evil genius, who also has keys to their house (I still don't understand why I don't my own set.)
Charlie parks the car and follows me into the house. Before we can settle in, my mum surprises us both.
"Guess who's going to be staying with us for a week?" She says way too enthusiastically with a smile that's a bit too big.
"I don't know, the muffin man?" I grab a chocolate chip muffin from the pile on the bench.
"I think you're the one who needs to lay off the muffins cousin," a devilish high pitch voice says from behind.
A cold shiver runs down my spine. I was really hoping I wouldn't be hearing that voice until Christmas. Even Christmas sounded too soon to see her. There has to be a logical reason I'm hearing such a terrible voice.
I turn around and plaster a very forced smile on my face "Dotti."
Cupcake Theory #23
Life is definitely not logical (otherwise I'd own a llama)
:):):)
Have I ever mentioned that I hate WiFi?
Like how when you're finishing something off than it decides to stop working.
Three things that happened this week
- I went to the library to take back a book and came back with 7
- I got locked out of the house
- I had a Disney movie marathon ( How I miss The Princess Diaries)
I hope your September has been good so far and that school hasn't been too annoying
Lots of love and cupcakes that I would for sure share with you
Theforgottonone :)
