Chapter Fifteen

Previously...

I concentrated and showed them all the strange figure that had loomed outside and moved so fast, it had to be a vampire.

"But...that's...the vampire...she's..." Dad stumbled.

"Right here." A woman's soprano voice rang out behind me.

Elizabeth POV

Daddy fell down onto his knees, collapsing in pain, writhing in agony.

"Daddy!" I cried. I rushed to get on my knees in front of him, checking him for any injuries.

"What did you do to him?!" I screamed, turning around to face the woman for the first time.

When I turned...I was shocked.

"Hello Lizzy." My mother smiled at me, covered in a black cloak and dried blood.

Bella POV

"That is not our agreement!" I screamed, furiously, at Aro.

"We will be traveling to Forks Washington in two weeks time and we will be ending Elizabeth Masens life." Aro spoke so calmly in his arrogant voice as he discussed my daughters death.

"My loyalty for her life! That was our deal!" I screamed.

"Our deal has become forfeit!" He uncharacteristically yelled back.

"I have spent seventeen, long years under your control for nothing? Are you that careless to dishonor your promises?" I sneered my nose as I turned to leave.

"Where are you going?" He called out angrily behind me.

"Home. I am no longer under your loyalty." I smiled to myself as the doors slammed shut behind me.

I had to think of a plan. I learned from Aro that Elizabeth is actually in Forks with Charlie, according to him her presence so close to the vampire world is unacceptable and if she were to enter our world she would be unstoppable.

But she knows her origins! She knows of the vampire world and has said nothing in seventeen years! No telling how strong her gift has become either. Aro doesn't realize just how unstoppable Elizabeth is.

I need help if I'm going to get Elizabeth through this. I need people I can trust, people she can trust...she may not even trust me though.

Oh my god, I need the Cullens.

Could I handle that? Seeing them, seeing him, again? Having to work with them no less?

Yes, yes I can handle it. I have to for my daughters sake. Besides, I've worked with people worse than the Cullens before.

I raced to Forks, thanks to my vampire speed and newfound swimming abilities, I made it there within the day. Arriving at the town borders around dusk.

I made my way to the Cullen estate, carefully coming from the back of the property so I wouldn't send them on alert.

Fast movement farther away from the house then I was expecting sent me to a screeching halt.

Then, between the trees and illuminated by the setting sunlight, I saw the reason for my existence for the first time in almost seventeen years.

Elizabeth laughed as she flew through the trees, making an oval as if she was running on a track, she looked absolutely breathtaking. Her bronze curls bounced as she darted around her makeshift course, the flecks of gold in her emerald eyes sparkled as the dying sun lit her porcelain skin beautifully.

"Alright Elizabeth! Time to stop for today darling, your Grampa Charlie will be expecting you home!" He called out to her. She cut across the trees and ran straight into Carlisle's arms.

"That was exhilarating!" She laughed as she slid out of his arms.

Wait! What is she even doing here! I had gotten myself so caught up in her beauty I hadn't thought to panic about her being with the Cullens already.

In my panic I had missed Elizabeth slipping away with her father. I made my way through the trees towards where her car was parked.

Okay...my car.

Seeing my old truck sent a strange stab of pain through me I wasn't expecting.

"Sorry for your birthday kinda falling apart." Her perfect lips turned into a sad little frown.

Is it really June 20th already? I guess after the Volturi New Years ball I kinda zoned out on dates...

"Today has frankly been the best birthday I've had in a long time." He smiled when her expression turned to complete shock.

"It's the first birthday I've had being a dad, and there is nothing better for a dad then seeing his daughter happy and now very very healthy." He smiled and she threw her arms around his neck tightly, looking completely and utterly happy.

I stumbled away and into the forest, needing to get away.

She treats him as if he has been around her whole life! Has she been here since I left? No, he said this is his first birthday being a dad, they must have found her when she came to Charlie.

I wondered if she would be that open and caring about me when I first reappear.

I decided to follow her to Charlie's house, when I arrived she was in the bathroom showering, so I just kept to the tree line, hiding in the shadows.

She came out and I moved so I could see her better, I just didn't count on her being able to see me better.

She froze, picked up something off the desk, and slowly made her way to the open window.

Her phone starting ringing and she jumped from the sudden sound.

I couldn't hear who was on the other side, but I could hear what she was saying.

Hello?" She panted

"Should I not be?" She stuttered, obviously upset and not alright.

"Wait. What's happening?" She asked, taking deep breaths.

"Is a Cullen watching Grampa's house?" She asked.

I froze. She definitely knows I'm out here. She's really remarkable with her vampiric traits.

"No reason. Just curious." She responded.

"I love you too." She replied and hung up.

"Elizabeth? Do you want to spend the weekend with Claire?" Charlie called up the stairs.

"Yeah! Sounds fun!" She laughed, I could hear the panic in her voice.

She threw together a bag, only packing necessities, and rushed downstairs.

I guess this is as good a time as any to go to the Cullens. As I started to turn I got dizzy and my legs gave out, sending me crashing to the ground.

Okay...I'll go after a quick hunt then. I guess it has been a few months since my last meal.

I made it to the Cullen residence after taking down a deer, who managed to beat my ass I was so weak. To make everything better I got drenched in blood so now I'll look like a killer in front of my daughter.

I arrived just in time to hear Carlisle say,

"Show everyone what you showed me, please."

Suddenly a vision of strange figure that had moved so fast, it had to be a vampire.

"But...that's...the vampire...she's..." He stumbled.

"Right here." I announced.

He fell to his knees as soon as we made eye contact, adopting this strange look of...pain?

"Daddy!" Elizabeth cried and went to check on him.

"What did you do to him?!" Elizabeth cried and turned around to face me.

She stopped dead in her tracks.

"Hello Lizzy." I smiled the first real smile I've given in years, hoping I wouldn't scare her too much.

"Mom?" She asked meekly.

"Yes, Elizabeth, it's me." Tears sprang to my eyes I knew would never fall.

Everyone stayed quiet.

"Bella, what are you doing here?" Carlisle touched my arm.

"Just thought I'd stop in and check up." I said sarcastically "No, sorry, that was rude of me. I apologize." I sighed. "I'm here because of our contract."

"Contract?" Esme asked.

"My loyalty for your life." I looked a still shocked Elizabeth in the eyes.

She sucked in a violent deep breath and I moved forward to support her weight as she gasped and started clawing at her head.

"What's wrong? What can I do help?" I pleaded with her.

She sighed deeply and relaxed into my arms.

"He-he-Aro, he-"

"He did what sweetheart?" I asked calmly, inside I felt like a panicked mother.

"He, he took you." She sneered her face up into a grimace.

"He just took you! Gave you absolutely no choice!" She started yelling, clearly upset and very angry as she pushed away from me and started pacing the room.

"Elizabeth, calm down. Please don't get yourself so upset that you-"

"Ugh!" She screamed out in frustration. I rushed forward and pulled her into my arms as she slumped unconscious.

"What happened to her?" Her father rushed over and tried to help me as I laid her out on the couch.

"She passes out when she gets too upset." I sighed, settling her hair out of her face.

"How did you know that?" Esme asked.

"She did that all the time when she was a baby. She'd get frustrated and fuzzy with me and just, pass out." I explained

"That's frightening." Carlisle sighed.

"Not as much as when she gets angry. You wouldn't believe me if I told you that her eyes-"

"Become red." Her father finished my sentence.

I made the mistake of making brief, very brief, eye contact.

"Tell me what happened Bella." He pleaded.

"You left me Edward. You let me go, and you let me get my life ruined by Aro." I snapped.
