The Crying King

Once upon a time, there was a king.

Known for his beauty and great power, his red hair and dark brown eyes which symbolizes him as the true sovereign of this kingdom. However, this strong and powerful man was far from perfect.

He was always crying.

Even in tears, he was a sight to behold, remarkable and impressive "Such magnificence!" "A vision of elegance!" the commoners would sing in his splendor not asking themselves what pains his poor king, not even once. In result our king wept and wept, further into despair. Always admired but, was he ever truly loved?

One day, during his lonely grief, a tiny brave soul approached to the sad king, a small, humble sparrow. "Why are you always crying, your majesty?" the sparrow of strange blue and green eyes softly inquired clearly showing his shy but lovely personality.

With dew-filled eyes, the king spoke "I am sorrowful for I am lonely, little sparrow." A brief pause he made caused by his sobs "One day I shall die alone..."

"My people say they adore me, but no woman has asked nor approached me for my hand in marriage. No woman has been held by me. Has loved me for me."

"... It may be a selfish and foolish reason for my pain, but it is what burdens my heart, little sparrow."

"That is far from the truth, your majesty!" chirped the sparrow in protest, jumping up and down on the king's hands "I have always loved you, your majesty!" he cried "When illness claimed your parents, you stayed strong and poised and bore the burden of leading your people. You became their rock, you stood at their side, defended and protected your kingdom. And through all this you remained kind and gentle to everyone and uh..." "Uhm... I would like to ask for your hand in marriage, and live the rest of my days with you..." the sparrow said and when he realized what he just said quickly added "I-If that's okay with you, my king!"

And for the first time in a very long time, the King smiled. "That was the sweetest thing anyone has asked me, brave and bold sparrow." "But your time will come much sooner than mine, little Sparrow. Such is how gods intended." "I would like you to dedicate your precious time and live out your life as a free bird."

Slowly and sadly, the little blue/green-eyed sparrow nodded and hesitantly went on his way as he flew out. "I will find a way, my King! And then I shall return with a flower in hand!" Those where the last words the sparrow said before vanishing into the distance, a promise he would try and try to accomplish.

But alas, even with the knowledge of the greatest herbalists in the land or the wisdom of ancient spiritualists, there was no solution known to man that could help the little sparrow to be with his King. Silently, the sparrow wept. Lamenting the hopelessness of his whole ordeal, the tiny sparrow forgets the rules of nature, as death is swift and curious. A monstrous cat silently approached to the sparrow from the back and attacks, a huge and malicious grin appearing on his lips. "You're either being too confident in your wings, or you're being quite daft to just idle like that, bird" the cat quipped

"Let me go, please! My King is waiting for my return!" The sparrow cried desperate and struggled long but his captor held him strongly. However he remained persistent as ever.

The cat spoke, clearly surprised by the actions of the sparrow, "This is the first time I've seen a bird weep for a mere human..." as the sparrow was crying uncontrollably, the cat continued "... For amusing me, I shall help you be with your King, daft bird." "Let me ease your pain for good!"

The sparrow couldn't believe its eyes! For this cat wasn't an ordinary feline... he was a Cat Sidhe.

"So... Do you truly love that man, foolish sparrow?" the malevolent cat said, testing the Sparrow.

"Y-Yes!! With my whole heart and soul, I'd do anything to be with him!" the little bird cried out loud. With a grin, the Sidhe started "Very well. I shall give you a human form." "For the price of testing the love of this man."

Back in the royal palace, the King reflects over what has been said and done. Ever since those sweet words were spoken to him, he began to grow quite fond of the brave but silly Sparrow whose name he was unknown. In fact, he missed it dearly.

"Your Majesty..." A male voice broke the silence of his grief, it was his most loyal Knight, Felix. "A strange visitor has come to see you, my King... Someone you know named... Sparrow?" as he heard that name, he quickly turned to see an average short man with green hair and bright blue eyes, slightly blushing as he held a red rose in his hand. The strange young man nervously approached as he spoke, "Hello, Your majesty! I've returned just as I promised! And well..." with a sudden change, his smile became sad as happiness vanished from his face "I'm human now, but this is probably not the perfect form you long for... as I'm no woman, but winged or not, my feelings for you are unchanged, and this heart will always be yours." "That is... if you'll have me." Sadness filled his eyes as tears began to slowly stream down his face offering shyly the rose to the King, not being able to look up to his majesty. With a sudden approach, the king embraced the man who was a Sparrow, caught by surprise; the blue-eyed didn't know what to do and stayed silent till the King slowly detached himself from the man and smiled to him with his swollen eyes filled with joy and love "You speak nonsense, my dear Sparrow, it would be an honor to be the lover of a soul so kind and loving. For now I shall know your name as you're all I ever wanted and more."

The man smiled, now tears of joy filled his eyes and with a small smile he responded "My name is Sean, your majesty"

The king slowly approached his face to Sean's as he said "tell me Mark, My love" finally their lips touched as both of their hearts were being filled with warmth and love. From then on, His majesty was no longer called the King of Tears but the King of Joy and together they ruled their kingdom happily ever after.
