The crow

The boy threw down his bike and ran, his heart thumping wildly in his chest. The bird narrowed its eyes and silently fell from the branch, opening its tattered wings and Soaring down. The boys arms flew to his head, protecting it from the foul bird, its claws struck him and it held on, hovered for a second, scratching at his arms as much as possible before flying back towards the old tree. The boys arms were torn and bleeding, he pulled them down and looked at the damage, a squeal of pain playing at his lips, he managed to bite it back, letting out small squeaks as he ran.

his face was red and hot, tears streamed down his cheeks as he searched wildly for cover, but the bird was quick, it swooped down once more, striking the boy in the back of his head. The boy fell to the pavement, and the bird landed in front of him, the boy lifted himself up and caught sight of the monstrous thing before him.

It was a mess of  old midnight feathers and dried blood, and the eyes, electric blue, and almost hypnotising. the crow squawked angrily and lurched forward, the boy scrambled over the rough concrete to escape but the bird dived at him and it's beak plunged into his throat. the boy let out a drowning cry as blood began to dribbled from his mouth and stain his shirt. His head fell back to the ground, a small grin seemed to show across the birds beak, it turned the boy over with its talons, pecking at his right eye before ripping it from his skull, dropping the boys limp body and flying away, it's feathers stained red.

A nest lay neatly between two branches high in an old gum tree, it's large roots dug firmly in the ground on one side and on the other they spread wildly over and old sewage tunnel, holding onto it like a boney hand holding on for dear life. A feather floated softly on the breeze as the murderous bird flew past, landing quietly next to the nest, the gift of the boy's eye clutched tightly in his talons, he tilted his head down at what was in the nest, plucking red meat from the eye and dropping it in. He turned to a nearby stick, impaling the rest of the eye onto it.

the nest seemed normal enough, but the tree itself, hidden from the view of human eyes but the stench clear as the sewage beside it, was decorated with the birds gruesome gifts, mangled body parts of a thousand different creatures skewed onto branches and twisted around the trunk. The bird was pleased with his findings, and The nest dweller seemed excited by the human flesh, an upgrade from dogs and cats he supposed.
