Prologue
Alexander looked up at the clock, his feet tapping the ground in anticipation. His best friend, Johnathan Laurens, was sitting much more patiently compared to the brown-haired boy. Instead of being extremely annoying, he had chosen to simply play games on his phone.
"Alex, cool it down," The calmer of the two requested, "we're in a public area."
Arms were crossed against the other's chest. "I'm just tapping my feet. Everyone does it. There was a study on i-"
"No, I meant your pants."
He looked down nervously, only causing Laurens to erupt with laughter. His face suddenly went red. "What the fuck, Jo?! Don't pull that shit!"
"You're the one that went along with it like a puppy looking for his, ahem, bone."
"I can't believe we're platonic partners.."
"Or just partners."
"..."
"Fine, platonic partners."
As the bickering slowly ended, a young male, about their age, walked past. Two others swiftly followed in his steps.
A girl entered soon after, and took a seat next to Alexander. Her cheeks were slightly red. Was it anger, love, or both?
"Do you..go here?" Alex asked, turning to her.
"Wh-" She whipped her head around. The blushing intensified lightly. "Oh, yeah. I've lived in Ohio since kindergarten. You come from..New York, right?"
"..How'd you know that? I literally just met you!"
The female did small jazz hands. "Maaaagiiiiic."
"Magic doesn't exist."
"Are you sure about that?" Almost immediately, she took a crumpled up sheet of paper out of her jacket pocket. It was a copy of Alexander's personal information. "It says here that you moved from a small island at a young age, and then, for some reason, moved to New York. But once the going got tough, your family relocated to Ohio, AKA this place. Am I right, or am I right again?"
"How'd you get that?! I thought it was for, like, the FBI only!" Alex was starting to get slightly panicky.
"It probably is. My dad's one of the top agents, so he has, like, every personal file? I can easily get into his office and grab the new students' info."
"And..how did you know I was a new student again?"
"Ah, that.." Her shoulders drooped slightly. "I tend to sneak into the principal's office and find out who the new kids are."
Laurens, for some reason, interrupted. "Hold up, hold up...What's your name, anyway? You know ours', so we should know your's. Maybe give us some other info, too."
She paused for a few moments, attempting to process the words. Boys always asked this, usually to help with a further pick-up line, and simply left when she actually used her brain. But these two..they didn't seem to be flirting. It was nice.
"Angelica Schuyler. I only came in here because I was following those disgusting kids that passed you not too long ago. They're perverted assholes."
"I thought the tall one was pretty hot." Laurens stated.
"Him? Hot? Wow, somebody has low-ass standards. No offense, kinda." Angie told him.
"None taken, kinda. Still, what was his name?"
"His full name is Thomas Jefferson, but he goes by Tommy. Leader of the bunch."
"The Brady Bunch?"
"I will fucking stab you- AHEM, anyway, did you see the little short one? That was James Madison. Literally ran out of sick days already. The guy also has a major stutter, which makes him pretty hard to understand. Probably the nicest in there."
"And the baldie..?" Alex questioned.
"Oh, yeah, Aaron Burr. Would fuck anyone in this school for a corn chip. But his flirting game? It sucks. Although, his intelligence kinda makes up for it. He runs the drama club. I'm second in command, if you were wondering. Speaking of-"
Angelica pulled out two flyers from her backpack. They were definitely less crumbled than the personal info. She handed one to both. They read over it.
John grinned. "Hey, Al, it's your favorite musical: Grease! Think you might sign up?"
"Danny's still available!" Angie chirped in.
"Uh.." Alex appeared to be rather flustered. "Yeah, um, maybe. I don't know yet. It's whatever."
They were all silent for a few moments.
Suddenly, Angelica gasped. "Oh shit, I'm gonna be late for politics club!" She quickly rose from her seat. "I'll see you two later. This school is pretty packed together, so we're just destined to meet up again. Remind me to give you my number next time, okay? Bye!"
The boys waved goodbye as she scurried out of the room. Then, they turned to one another. Alex was the only one that spoke.
"I think we should pass in those early assignments now."
