Chapter 14 - Will they defeat the epitome of evil?
Shadow's POV
I felt strange wetness on my cheeks and realized that I had begun to cry as the agonizing pain crashed over all over my body.
I wanted to pass out right then and there yet I couldn't because Mia had been so strong and had saved me with no hesitance whatsoever, even when faced with an unknown and dangerous enemy.
I would do the same.
"Mia you have to snap out of it. Mia we need you here, please come back to me."
I groaned in pain again and then continued, "Mia I need you. I consider you my family. I do not care if you had a dark past or that we have known each other for a few days. I know I can trust you. I believe in you, please come back to me—"
I stopped as the energy retreated into her body. And noticed she wasn't crying anymore either.
With a sigh of relief, I collapsed onto the ground, in a pool of my blood, breathing heavily.
My shadows still surrounded us in a cocoon, I decided to take them back.
"Not yet," said Elena out of nowhere.
"Huh? Why? You okay?" I asked, worry filling me.
She didn't respond, making my worry increase but after a few seconds said, "You are ready to know who you truly are."
Before I could ask anything else, hot white electricity emerged from Mia causing me to panic.
But surprisingly, my shadows did not react or feel threatened. And the electricity merged with the shadows as if it belonged there and soon enough, it reached me.
I closed my eyes as an onslaught of memories hit me.
Alpha Taylor's POV
I stared in awe as electricity merged with the cocoon made of shadows.
"I had a vision of that a while ago but I didn't understand it back then. Now, I do," said Sel with a smile on her face.
"Are they gonna be okay?"
She grinned up at me. "Yes, more than okay."
I sighed with relief. "We need to figure out what happened with Mia a while ago. That aura matched with Alastair's which means that he has gained a semblance of some power and I have a feeling that something big is going to happen soon."
Her smile disappeared, "Yeah, I'm sure that the barrier weakening is not the case at all. Someone must be trying to awaken him."
I snarled in anger, "Fucking idiots they are."
Her eyes suddenly started to glow brighter and I knew she was having another vision.
I moved forward quickly and caught her before she could fall.
I stared at her still face and unblinking eyes. Even when her eyes glowed, they looked lifeless as she stared ahead at nothing in particular while her body jerked slightly from time to time.
I felt saddened whenever she had her visions and worry filled me but I knew she would be fine. Just like she had countless times before.
I looked away and tried my best to ignore the scent of Shadow's blood.
Seeing my pack members in pain and not being able to do anything about it crushed me but I had to trust my beta.
I looked back down towards Sel and my eyes widened in panic.
Her nose had started bleeding.
Just as I was about to try and wake her, her body started shaking violently.
A sense of familiarity hit me.
This had happened before. And it was just once when my parents passed.
I tried my best to gently hold her hands away from her so that she wouldn't harm herself.
I stared off into space as horror filled me.
Someone was going to die.
Shadow's POV
I wanted to scream and shout at all of them to come back to their senses and stop fighting yet I knew it was pointless.
The way I was moving about, killing all of them with ease pained my soul.
I could feel a connection to the vampires as I was one of them yet not at the same time.
I knew regretting killing them on a battlefield would do me no good as it was kill or be killed.
But I couldn't ignore the pain as I killed one of my kind each time.
I knew the same went for both my siblings as I felt their guilt through our bond.
Cael a witch and M a werewolf.
We couldn't necessarily be called those because we only had similarities with them, but weren't them.
I pulled out up my black short sword from the back of a corpse, it dripped with blood.
The blood of my kind.
The blade had a sharp point on the top and two more sharp points raised on both sides, one after the other. The handle was not fancy and did the job.
Amaris' short sword
I decided to look across the bloody and loud battlefield but was interrupted as a brave soul decided to sneak an attack on me.
I didn't want them to feel the regret of failure as they found out I had known all along, in their last moments, hence, I played along.
I could tell she was no expert at sneak attacks yet she tried her best.
I'll act surprised when her blade slices me, not like it isn't going to heal in a matter of seconds, no matter how large the wound.
I looked straight across from me and a few hundred feet away I could see bursts of light appearing from time to time. I smiled proudly as I saw lightning strike 50 people at once, all around my dear sister, M.
The three of us decided to not use much of our powers until we reached Alastair.
She could have easily struck a 100 at once without batting an eye.
I looked a few distances across from her and saw my brother, a force to be reckoned with as he went through people at the speed of light.
I chuckled internally at the bad joke.
He was light so of course, he would have the speed of light. The only reason I was able to follow his movements was because I had dormant light powers within me yet I couldn't use them like Cael could because my main element was darkness and the same went for M, hers was lightning.
No matter what I'd said before when we were gathered around each other, ready for battle, I knew excruciating pain awaited me.
Before my thoughts could continue I felt her jump and come at me with her vampire speed.
I sighed, I could follow the movements of Cael. Vampire speed was nothing for me.
As I turned around, she didn't even seem to be moving, she just looked frozen mid-air, except for the really slow occasional movements.
She was surprisingly young. Probably around 14-15 years old.
My heart felt heavy as I continued to stare at her body. It was littered with scars.
What had that monster done to her??
I looked back up, into her glowing red eyes. They reminded me of myself. The passion that she held in them, no evilness or malice. Just a burning passion.
I might die of heartache before actually being killed by Alastair.
I raised my short sword slightly before changing my mind. It would be much more painful if she died by my sword.
I stood in place and realized that she had aimed for my neck, wise.
Moving my upper body a bit I waited for her to reach me, this way she would cut my collarbone instead.
Finally, I felt the stinging pain which was a welcome distraction from my awful thoughts.
My shadows rose around me like snakes and I sent them at her.
They twisted her neck quickly and retreated into me.
I stopped using my enhanced vision and time went back to normal as she hit the rough and muddy ground with a dull thud.
Even if I wasn't using my highly advanced vision I had my naturally sharp vampire eyes.
Her breathing stopped and I saw the color leave her golden-brown skin, she was dead.
Her lifeless eyes, the burning passion gone, stared ahead of her in shock.
I sighed and bent down and gently closed her eyes.
Looking around, it seemed like she was the last one and that the other vampires had wisely and thankfully given up and retreated.
Before I could look up I got a mind-link in the bond that connected the three of us. "He finally showed himself," said Cael.
I snapped my head up, towards the looming black castle that sat a couple of kilometers away from where I was.
With my enhanced vision, I saw Alastair standing a few distances from the entrance.
Another mind-link came but this time it was M. "It is time."
I felt our pained yet determined emotions through our bond.
"Let's meet up in front of him," I stated while looking at them from across the now silent battlefield.
It was ominous as if they all knew about our impending deaths.
How could a battlefield suddenly grow so silent?
Both of them looked towards me and Cael said, "Let's give him hell. Even if we don't kill him, we will do our best and lock him up. Though, that would mean that I would have to be locked away somewhere near him as it would most likely use up all of my magic and I would have to be close to keep the magic alive. I already planned on doing that, sorry I didn't tell you because I thought—"
"We already knew brother," said M and I in unison.
He stopped short, I could feel his surprise through our bond.
"Did you think you could hide such a thing from us? Your sisters? Who grew up with you and know everything about you as you do us?" said M with slight pain in her voice.
I knew that she hoped he wouldn't actually do it. It was false hope but I didn't want to crush it by slamming the truth on her face.
She had to learn on her own.
"I'm sorry, but it is the only way." He stated and my vision sharpened once again as I saw him transforming into pure light.
"Whatever it takes," I said one last time and instantly transformed into my shadows.
I felt free of my physical body and relished in this feeling as much as I could, one last time.
Time slowed and I saw M transforming into a bolt of lightning.
It was always fun to watch it because no one else could besides us Omonens.
I smirked and transformed into my shadows and appeared in front of Alastair at the same time as my siblings.
M appeared with a loud bang and the ground cracked beneath her feet whereas Cael appeared silently but blinding light surrounded him causing Alastair to hiss.
It didn't affect me or M because we both had light within us.
It probably looked like we teleported from across the battlefield.
I smirked and looked back towards Alastair.
I wasn't going to show him any weakness.
I noticed a sword made of pure darkness and the blood of thousands, hanging limply from his left hand. That sword would eventually result in our deaths.
"Do you think that wannabe-gods like you can defeat the god of all darkness and evil?" His annoyingly deep voice reverberated.
I stared into his cold, glowing yellow eyes that were surrounded by pure black and raised both my hands, using my shadows to create two daggers made of pure darkness. "No, not really," I replied, not revealing anything else.
I wasn't stupid enough to reveal our plans to the enemy
The three of us had a silent understanding that we couldn't attack him just yet, we had to stay on the defensive until the right moment.
I felt the pulsing of black nerves around my eyes as I hissed loudly as he came at me with his sword raised high.
Even with my highly enhanced vision, I had a hard time keeping up with his movements.
Nevertheless, I ducked and transformed into my shadows, appearing in the place he had been moments ago.
I looked down as I felt something wet trickling down my left arm, my eyes widened in surprise.
There was a long cut going down my arm that bled profusely.
"Surprised? I thought you would know better than to transform into the very darkness that I'm a god of." He mocked.
I rolled my eyes. "Not all darkness belongs to you. Parts of them belong to me too." I smirked and stared at the black blood that dripped from a wound on his wrist.
He looked down and stared at the already healing wound, surprise flickered in his eyes for a moment before the same coldness returned.
My shadows, deadly sharp, rose around me like snakes once again as I prepared for what was to come.
He snarled and ran towards me once again but this time the three of us moved in unison and attacked.
I bent backward, towards the ground as his sword sliced the air inches from my face.
I instantly went back up and hissed as I felt pain in my calves, ignoring it I sliced his back with my shadows.
Once again I dodged his sharp shadows and jumped up into the air as a bolt of lightning struck along with M clawing his face with her long and sharp nails, which was soon followed by a ball of pure light hitting him in the chest, sending him flying back.
I huffed slightly, much to my surprise. I guess fighting a god takes its toll on you.
I looked to where he had been thrown back to and saw him land perfectly on his legs, skidding back a few distances until he jammed the black-glittering sword into the ground.
The sword had a plain black, blade that glinted in the moonlight of the full moon, along with a handle that held M's crystal now covered in pure darkness.
He stood as the wounds on his face began to heal and glared at us. "I might have underestimated you."
"Especially you, golden boy."
I noticed blood dripping from my arm and looked back down, to my horror the wound hadn't healed, in fact, it now had slight black veins around it.
With that, I realized that none of my wounds had healed.
I snapped my head towards M and Cael and saw a long cut on her left eye which bled profusely. It wasn't healing either.
And I'm pretty sure that eye was rendered useless now. I snarled in anger and looked at Cael to see a long slash going down his chest diagonally.
My shadows whirled around me as rage burned inside me.
Oh, he was so fucking dead.
"If we stay on the defensive, we will die soon. Our wounds most likely don't heal because—"
Cael was cut off as M screamed in pain.
Horror filled me as I looked behind her to see Alastair standing with a sadistic smirk on his face, the sword now coated in M's blood.
He used our distractedness and cut her back.
He could've killed her but he didn't, he was fucking playing with us.
I snarled and all I saw was red.
Time froze as M morphed into her wolf, electricity zapped around her massive form, causing me to somewhat come back to my senses.
She was just about the same height as Alastair.
I looked into her complete electric bluish-white eyes and understanding passed between us.
We had to stop acting like rookies and step up our game.
I completely transformed into my shadows while still maintaining my body shape whereas Cael did the same but his were pure golden light.
I didn't have a hard time following his movements and this time, I ran at him as Rowena turned around and clamped her jaws around his shoulder, causing him to grunt loudly in pain.
Before he could swing his sword at her I appeared behind him and chopped off his arm.
I'd like to see you recover from that.
And continued to slice every possible place while Cael and Rowena took turns wounding him.
Of course, we weren't left unscathed yet I didn't care anymore because I didn't feel anything at all.
The anger inside me consumed me as M's scream repeated in my head in a broken loop.
Suddenly his entire form changed and a vile and vicious energy hit me, causing me and my shadows to almost blow away, which resulted in me returning to my original body.
I flew backward and heard a few bones in my ribcage snapping along with a few other places in my body while still mid-air.
Because of the sudden and overwhelming pain, I realized too late that I had nothing to slow my fall.
I used my shadows at the very last second but it was useless as my body crashed on the ground, skidding back a few distances, while I heard my hip bones and ankle snap painfully.
I howled in pain.
I had been through a lot of physical pain through the years as I trained but never in my entire life had I felt so many bones snapping in less than a second.
I breathed heavily as I felt my eyes water slightly due to the sudden and overwhelming pain and stared up at the sky that was littered with millions of stars.
I soaked in the moonlight and tried my best to ignore the burning pain all over my body.
The battle had begun at midnight, the good people out of all three races fought alongside us, they put their trust in us.
Hundreds of them died heroically today and it seemed like I would too.
If I didn't die because of blood loss , I would surely be killed at the hands of Alastair.
I wondered what the point was to have sent us here on earth if we couldn't even fight a god without dying.
They called us godly creatures yet in this moment, nothing felt god-like about me.
I felt weak and pathetic.
Aunt Sel wouldn't be too pleased to see me completely broken and battered like this on the ground.
I killed so many innocent creatures that had fought against us only because they had been under the control of Alastair.
I was a heartless monster. I was supposed to protect this planet yet I couldn't even move after exchanging a few blows against a god that wasn't even fully powered yet.
Maybe I deserved to die.
Suddenly my ears picked up on a mournful whimper and I turned my head to my left.
Rowena laid limply a few distances away and a couple of hundred meters away in front of her, Cael's lifeless form was visible.
I looked towards the now 10ft tall figure made out of pure darkness.
His terrifying blood-thirst and vicious aura could be felt even when I was at least 20 meters away from him.
It seems like he could transform into shadows like me yet he was ominous and it pulsed with evil.
"What..ever...it takes..." whispered Maze while her body shook as she stood up.
I had said those words not too long ago.
I looked back at my battered body and glanced at her own body that looked the same if not worse.
How could she even think about standing up in such a condition?
"Fuckin hell," I yelled and slowly raised my body while whimpering slightly in agony.
If she could be strong, then so could I.
I made a staff out of my shadows and used them to stand up, still hunched over while completely laying my weight on the staff.
"I almost feel sorry for you pathetic fools," said a much deeper voice with fake hurt.
I raised my head and looked into his bright yellow eyes that held nothing but sinisterness.
I groaned in pain and annoyance, "Oh shut the fuck up will ya."
He snarled in anger.
"Hello lovely siblings, that hurt like a bitch and still does but I have a plan," said M while still struggling to stay standing.
"Out with it quickly," I screamed in the mind-link causing Cael to stir.
Suddenly M screamed into the link, "CAELUM WAKE UP!!"
I flinched a little and hissed in pain, causing her to look over at me with apologetic eyes.
His eyes opened and I heard him groan.
M morphed back into her human form and before she could fall, a staff made of golden light appeared in front of her.
I wondered why Alastair was just standing and watching and looked over towards him to see him trapped within a cage made of pure golden light.
He bared his fangs and scratched and pushed at the flexible walls yet no sound could be heard.
"Thanks, brother!" said M with a slightly cheery voice.
"I don't even know how you could be cheery while being on the verge of death." I groaned again while trying to stand upright.
"The cage won't last long so mind explaining what the plan is sis?" Cael said with heavy exasperation evident in his beautiful-sounding voice.
I felt comfort wash over me at hearing his voice which helped distract me from the pain a little bit.
"Alright so here goes...."
5 minutes later I stood perfectly straight and completely healed as Cael had used his magic to heal the three of us while M explained her plan.
It wasn't extraordinary or brilliant but it was the only plan we had.
After seeing what Alastair could do, there was nothing left for us to do, except give up our lives.
Suddenly the cage broke with a loud cracking sound, surprising considering how weirdly flexible it seemed, and he charged towards Cael.
Not wasting a second both M and I rushed at him together at once.
