A Mother's Love
The precious little girl before me sobbed an ocean's worth of tears.
"Mommy, do you think--am I really actually ugly?" her doe eyes stared up at me, as glassy and shiny as a brand new window. Trails of tears ran down her face, I took my thumb and wiped them away, but just like windshield wipers fighting against a rainstorm, it didn't do much.
"Oh, Sweetie," I stared down at her face, the most beautiful thing, and could not believe--could not fathom how those other children could be so cruel. "You are the most beautiful little girl I've ever seen, and do you know what makes you so beautiful?"
"What, Mommy?" She sniffled and whimpered, and I desperately tried not to start crying as well.
"Well, unlike some other people, you have a kind heart. You love without expecting love in return, and give without needing someone to give back. You have a beautiful heart, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, because if they did, they'd be sorely wrong." I smiled down at her, and I hoped she understood.
"You mean, just like you, Mommy?"
I couldn't help but grin and chuckle. "Yes, if you think so."
And at that moment, my heart filled with love for my daughter, because I couldn't help it, I was so proud of her! I kissed her on the forehead and made my way out of her room, but she called for me, so I made my way right back to her side, again.
"Yes, Sweetie?" I smiled at her.
"I love you, Mommy!" She hugged me.
"I love you, too. So much!" Again, I started to make my way out, but decided to say something. "And, Sweetie, just like your height, the beauty in your heart can only grow." I smiled and slipped out of the doorway of her bright pink bedroom.
