Eighteen: Dusk Vs Lila / The Phoenix's Rise

Don't play the song yet.

"Shouldn't we be out there helping her? She shouldn't have to face this alone!" Virginia asked, looking at the others with uncertainty. "She told us to get inside and stay there. We're going to listen to her unless she needs us," Klaus answered. Maisie looked out the window to see her sister and Lila throwing punches and dodging each other. She was happy that she was fighting for all of them to get home, but she was also worried that something could go wrong and Dusk would lose her life.

"Please be careful, Dusk," she whispered.

The fight between Lila and Dusk went on for several minutes, and with every step she took, Dusk felt more adrenaline rush through her veins, giving her the strength to fight against Lila. She swung an arm and leg at her, hitting Lila's shoulder and right leg, hurting her a little. Lila swung right back at her, but luckily she missed. "You think you can beat me?" Lila cackled. "I know I can," Dusk growled, grabbing Lila's arm to block her from hitting her face.

Lila struggled to get her arm out of Dusk's grasp. She then took her free hand and started punching Dusk's stomach, making her groan out in pain and letting go of her arm. As Dusk tried to recover from the pain that was being inflicted, Lila took this opportunity to get even. She started to punch, slap and kick her until she was lying on the ground with blood dripping down the corner of her mouth.

"Come on, Dusk! Get up!" she heard the voices of Maisie, Virginia, and Mckenna call out to her. Those words of encouragement gave her the strength to get up and continue the fight. She kicked Lila's shin and stood up, grabbed her by her clothing, and tossed her around the yard like a ragdoll. Lila teleported towards Dusk and grabbed her, and tossed her around as well. She hit the iron fence but got back up and ran towards Lila but, she was too slow, and Lila teleported away and later reappeared behind Dusk and threw her towards a tree.

Dusk tried to get up. But this time, she couldn't gather the strength. Lila placed a foot on Dusk's chest, making it hard for her to breathe. "Any last words?" she sneered. Dusk struggled to take in a breath as she thought about her words. Inside her head, there was an unfamiliar voice that kept repeating something over and over again, encouraging her to say it out loud.

"I won't be diminished, eclipsed, or hidden. You're gonna see my light blaze back to life, like a phoenix rise," she struggled to get out. "What did you say?" Lila asked, not pressing as hard on Dusk's chest. "I won't be diminished, eclipsed, or hidden. You're gonna see my light blaze back to life, like a phoenix rise," she repeated. The ground began to shake a little, making Lila stumble around and release Dusk from the pressure.

She carefully stood up and kept repeating that mantra over and over again, feeling her energy begin to course through her veins once more and something grew inside her, something she had never felt before. Her eyes fluttered closed, and she gasped when they opened.

"I-Impossible!" Lila stuttered as Dusk walked towards her in her newest form, The Phoenix. "Let's finish this, once and for all," Dusk said before rising from the ground and into the sky. Lila followed, leaving the girls to finish the battle high above the clouds, out of view from the others. A bright blue light grew in Lila's chest, making her body turn a ghostly white. At the same time, Dusk activated her powers, and a bright orange light grew inside her chest. The beams of light came out and immediately collided with one another, fighting for dominance. Both of the girls focused their energy on their beams, making them push one another around.

This is for everyone we've lost tonight. Dusk opened her eyes, and her gaze met Lila's as she continued to focus on her energy. Dusk's beam became stronger and reached Lila, making her scream in pain as the beam burned her skin. "Make it STOP!" She screamed. Her body began to slowly turn to ash and scatter across the sky. The beam slowly grew fainter, and Dusk felt all of her energy slip away.

She began freefalling from the sky and back down to the earth below, catching the glimpse of her friends as she passed the clouds. She closed her eyes, knowing that she would make impact on the ground below, but she didn't.

Instead, she landed safely in Klaus' arms.
