As soon as I walked into my advanced mathematics workshop, I regretted it. I don't like math, but I always get into classes with the older seniors, so that basically means I have to pay ninety-nine percent more attention since I'm the gifted one that skipped two grades of math. Not that I wanted it. Obviously I wouldn't-who in their right mind would? Honestly, I'd much rather be spending my time traipsing the halls or buying an illegal toucan off the deep web. Now that sounds like fun. Sitting here, solving for 'x'-what if 'x' doesn't want to be found?-should be the dictionary definition for boring. I am seriously considering contacting Miriam Webster right about now.

Despite everything, though, I shoved my thoughts aside and started solving for 'x'. Turns out it was seven. By the time I was just about finished with the equation, the door in the room opened and shut, followed by Mrs. Gloser's voice: "Aah~Alexander, I'm glad you could find your way here! Everyone, Alexander will be a new student in this class and in our school starting from today onward. I want you all to treat him with the utmost kindness."

I had barely heard anything going on-as I was too involved with the math problem I was just about to finish-so when I heard my name, I jumped a little.

"Take the seat next to Freya, and she can get you started on today's work."

I continued working though, not too interested in the new kid since this would be the only class I'd have to know him in, and I'd be ignoring him like all the other seniors for the rest of the day.

"'Kay," I said without looking up, "basically we're solving for a variable. The equations on the board." It's pretty fundamental stuff, so I certainly wasn't expecting it when I heard the shuffling sound of a chair being moved. Oh great, I sarcastically thought, I had to have the mathematically challenged student put next to me so I could be cheated off of. He tapped on my shoulder.

"Yes?" I looked up, and saw a boy-seventeen?-with oak brown eyes and hair so black that it looked like a piece of midnight. He reminded me of someone, and I couldn't place it until he spoke.

"Freya-you're Freya. Do you remember me?" His voice was deeper now, sure, and he was actually kind of amazing looking, but at this point I knew who he was. I jumped up away from him, not wanting to have to relive the memories from the bank. My hands shook as I shoved my books into my bag and asked to be excused. Thank God that periods were created, otherwise I wouldn't be able to escape this hellhole half the time with my backpack. I glanced back before I left, my eyes catching Adrian's as he tipped his chair back carelessly, and threw me a wave that didn't mean goodbye at all. He knew I'd come back sooner or later. Where else would I go? Ha. He underestimates me.
