Bethany turned to look at Jordan but he only had eyes for his sister at the moment. She could tell he was feeling conflicted.

"Its not his fault" Bethany tried to defend him.

When Jessica turned to her with accusing eyes she mentally coached herself to remain calm for Jordan's sake.

"You speak for my brother now?" Asked Jessica in a scornful tone.

Stay calm, don't fire back, be the bigger person.

"He doesn't need anyone to speak for him. I'm simply letting you know it's not what you're thinking" Bethany calmly replied

"Oh so you're a spokesperson plus you read minds now?" was Jessica's sarcastic response.

Be. Calm. Don't. Be. Rude.

Bethany took a deep breath and turned to Jordan who was now looking very uncomfortable. She wish he would say something. Stand up for himself for once.

"Maybe I should go" Bethany said slowly

"I'll show you out and then you can explain what's going on" Javier finally spoke up.

"And what in the name cow patties and kitty litter makes you think I owe you an explanation? How are you even relevant right now?" She took a deep breath "OK tell you what keep standing there, be quiet and don't speak unless you're spoken to"

"Don't speak to him like that!" Jessica snapped

"You don't talk to her like that either!" Jordan finally spoke up as he pulled Bethany protectively to his side.

"You're defending her!?" Jessica and Javier spoke in unison.

"Yes I am!" Jordan replied

"She's here to obviously try to ruin our relationship again and you're taking her side?" Jessica asked incredulously

"Your relationship? Why would I want Javier? He and I go together like cheese on chocolate pancakes, we don't fit. I wouldn't touch his ass with a ten foot pole. I wouldn't want him if we were stranded on an island alone, my fingers would have to do me justice until death do us part. Or if they fall off from overuse for pleasure but you get the picture" said Bethany as she folded her hands and glared them.

"You're going to let her speak to me like that?" Asked Jessica turning to Jordan

"You came in here throwing insults and accusations" was Jordan's careless response.

"I can't believe you!" Jessica exclaimed.

Bethany looked down at the other woman's feet, sure that she would be stomping a foot in a tantrum soon.

"And I can't believe you! You're happy but it's wrong for me to be happy?" Asked Jordan

"What does your happiness have to do with her!?" Asked Jessica

"I'm in love with her! If you had stopped to evaluate what you interrupted we wouldn't be standing here screaming at each other right now!" Jordan exclaimed

Everyone went quiet as they stared at him. Bethany stood blinking with her mouth half opened.

"You love me?" She asked quietly

"You love her?" Jessica and Javier asked speaking together again.

"That's what I was trying to explain to you. I love you. I'm not going anywhere and neither are you if I can help it." Said Jordan

"But I thought..." Bethany began to say.

"I know what you thought and I know why but I promise you. You're the only woman for me. There's no doubt in my mind you belong with me" he said

Bethany's eyes welled up with tears.

"But you never said anything" she whispered as he took her face in his hands and brush away her tears.

"I was trying to woo you. I wanted to convince you that you should take a chance on me. I can make you happy" he said

She hated the look of uncertainty on his face. Obviously she wasn't the only one unsure of the other one's feelings. She hugged him. A sense of peace gripped her when his arms came around her. The peace felt like the subtle sea flowing calmly past without a ripple or a wave in sight. Peace was truth.

"I never needed you to convince me. I couldn't walk away from you even if I wanted to" she said as she pulled back to look up at his face.

"Do you want to walk away?" He asked

"No, I can't" she confessed

"Why?" He asked

She looked up at him, she saw hope and fear in his eyes. It warmed her knowing this beautiful man inside and out. That could have anyone he wants, wanted her instead despite her short comings and was obviously doubtful that she felt the same way he does.

"You're home for me. You're my peace in a life of chaos. You're my hope and my strength." Her voice began to wabble "You're my sanity in a lonely world. You understand me like no one else ever did. I want to be the one that makes you happy. I want to be the one you come home to after a long day on the ranch. I want to love you far beyond what you ever imagined or dreamed of. Jordan, will you marry me?"

She heard startled gasps but ignored it as she looked up at Jordan.

"You're proposing?" He asked wide eyed.

"Yes?" She replied

"But that's my job" he replied smiling down at her.

"Is that a yes?" She asked nervously

"That's a heck yes ma'am"

She grinned at his southern drawl. When he gently held her face and kissed her, her whole world felt right.

"Y'all are more entertaining than the late night drama series I swear"

They all turned to look at Jason who was resting against the opened front door snacking on peanuts.

"Can one of you explain this to me?" Asked Jessica

"Well now that you've asked so politely" said Jason

They all turned to glare at him. He held his hands up and retreated into the house.

"Jordan allowed me to stay here after I lost my house" said Bethany

"You lost your house!?" Javier exclaimed

Bethany nodded and looked at him with a sad expression.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Asked Javier

"I was tired of imposing on your life. I knew you didn't really want me around." She replied with a shrug

He looked away from her with a guilty expression.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know" he said

"You didn't care to know, but I'm alright with that. It worked out better than I could have ever imagined." She said as she smiled up at Jordan who gave her hand a comforting squeeze.

"But this is so sudden" said Jessica

"Love doesn't have a timestamp. For some persons it just happens just like that. I believe they call that destiny" said Jordan looking down at her. Bethany smiled up at him, all the love she was feeling was reflected on her face.
