Chapter Seventeen: Sunnyside Daycare

Woody and I ran over to the garage to see everyone getting into the box to go to the daycare. Okay, what is this daycare? I tried to ask Woody again but he ignored me and walked over to the car. Alright, I'll keep waiting then! I've had enough experience of it already. We did hear Buzz asking about us but Jessie just said that we would be fine since Woody is going to college and I'm being sold online.

Thanks for the concern, Jessie! And Buzz just accepted that answer and went to climb in the box! We walked up to them while Woody asked what was going on. Buzz explained that everything was under control while Rex told us that they were going to daycare. They all seemed happy about it while Woody was the complete opposite. I'm confused now. Is daycare a good place or a bad place? I'm getting mixed signals here!

Mrs. Potato Head asked if we saw that Andy threw them away. I explained what really happened and Woody took my side. But none of them believed us! Well, this all looks bad but it's the truth! They all just hid in the box and closed the lid. Woody was quick to tell them all to get out of the box but we had even more problems. Andy's Mum closed the boot of the car and started to drive off. Now where are we going? With help, the three of us got into the box with everyone but Woody was already thinking of a way to make sure we all get home.

"Okay, everyone, listen up. We can get back to Andy's but we've gotta move fast," Woody said putting a xylophone against the box to climb up, "We'll hide under the seats till we get home."

"Get it through your vinyl noggin, Woody! Andy doesn't want us anymore!" Mr. Potato Head said

"He was putting you IN THE ATTIC!!!" I yelled having enough of this already!

"HE LEFT US ON THE CURB!!!" Jessie yelled back at me

"Alright, calm down! Both of you!" Maddie said breaking us up

"Okay, fine. Fine. Just wait till you see what daycare's like," Woody said

"Why? What's it like?" Rex asked

"Daycare is a sad lonely place for washed-up old toys who have no owners."

"Woody, I never went to daycare in my backstory. Be more specific, pour l'amour de dieu!" I said needing more information!

"All you need to know is that it's a place where kids six and under go while their parents are at work and they are not as kind as Andy or Molly," Woody explained to me

Oh no! I'm not going there! These kids are too young for us. Especially me! If a six-year-old sees my face, I'll be thrown out the minute they show a teacher. I'm not for toddlers. I'd give them nightmares! I mumbled in french again while barbie burst into tears. Oh, I forgot she was here.

"Quite the charmer, aren't ya?" Hamm asked Woody

"Oh, you'll see. As soon as we get to daycare, you'll be begging to go home," Woody told them

"I already am," I said

Suddenly, the car jolted and knocked us over. What was that? The car stopped and Andy's mum picked up the box we were in. Jessie, Hamm, Buzz, and Bullseye looked out of a hole in the box to see a playground. Oh, this place really is full of toddlers. Well, I know where I'm heading once we're free. The door. The box was put on a desk where we heard Andy's Mum telling the receptionist that she came to drop us off.

But she did mention someone named Bonnie who was a kid as for as I could tell. Well, Mum left and the receptionist took us away to another room. We looked through the hole to see children playing and making arts and crafts. Is Woody sure about this place? Yes, it looks nice but none of these toys are being mistreated. Either way, I still have my concerns. The bell rang and all the kids went outside to play leaving us alone. Okay, now we can leave.

But Rex suddenly ran forward wanting to see what was outside the box causing us to tip over onto the floor! Wonderful! We looked up to see every toy in the room staring at us. Why are there so many? A Jack-In-The-Box popped up and yelled 'new toys!' which made everyone excited and say hello to us. You'd think that they haven't seen a  new toy in ages. We then heard a toy truck beep and come forward before turning around to reveal a white and purple bear.

"Well, hello there," The bear got out of the truck, "I thought I heard new voices. Welcome to Sunnyside, folks. I'm Lots O Hugging Bear. But please call me Lotso.

"Buzz Lightyear, we come in..." Lotso suddenly hugged Buzz making all of his buttons go ff

"First thing you gotta know about me, I'm a hugger," Lotso lets him go, "Oh, look at you all. You've been through a lot today, haven't ya?"

"Oh, it's been horrible," Mrs. Potato Head said

"Well, you're safe now. We're all castoffs here. We been dumped, donated, yard-saled, secondhanded, and just plain thrown out. But just you wait, you'll find being donated was the best thing that ever happened to ya."

Woody scoffed at that. Yeah, I'll be heading for the door when this is over.

"Mr. Lotso, do toys here get played with every day?" Rex asked him

"All day long. Five days a week," Lotso smiled

"But what happens when the kids grow up?" Jessie asked

"Well, now, I'II tell ya," Lotso gestured to pictures of kid groups over the years on the wall with his cane, "When the kids get old, new ones come in. When they get old, new ones replace them. You'll never be outgrown or neglected, never abandoned or forgotten. No owners means no heartbreak."

Jessie yelled out in excitement while Mrs. Potato Head said that this was a miracle.

"And you two wanted us to stay at Andy's," Mr. Potato Head said to us

"Because we're Andy's toys!" I said

"So, you got donated by this Andy, huh?" Lotso asked putting an arm around my shoulders, "Well, it's his loss, Phantom. He can't hurt you no more."

Um, how does he know that? I was about to ask when he made his way to a doll house across the room. He called out for someone and a Ken doll appeared and came down to us. Ken asked if any of us were ready for his 'Dream Tour'. He really is a girl's toy. My goodness. But, just as he was about to start the tour, he locked eyes with Barbie and they had a moment. It was clear that we were questioning what was happening. Good thing that Lotso broke it up and told him to start the tour. So, we followed Ken and Lotso.

"Folks, if I can share, here at Sunnyside, we've got, well, just about anything a toy could ask for," Ken said as we walked down an aisle full of toys.

"Spare parts, superglue, and enough fresh batteries to choke a Hungry Hungry Hippo," Lotso said, "Think you're gettin' old? Well, stop your worryin'."

Lotso opened a door to reveal some kind of repair station.

"Our repair spa will keep you stuffed, puffed, and lightly buffed," Ken said

An Elephant toy who was getting re-stuffed sneezed and we moved on. Ken showed us his dream house which had everything he could want. Lucky. Lotso took us to a door where he told us that we could come to him if we had any problems. He knocked on the door where a baby doll came out with a broken eye. Poor thing. Lotso explained that he and the baby were thrown out together by the same owner. We walked through the door, which turned out to be a bathroom, and walked through to the next room. But I'll keep explaining in the next chapter.
