Chapter Nineteen: The Truth
So, we were brought back to Bonnie's house where Boonie was seeing what Woody's voice box said. When she put him back down, I guess we were playing 'Cafe' because she offered us fake coffee. But she quickly left when she had to go to the bathroom. When she did leave, Woody and I unfroze and started asking the other three toys if there was a way out. But the hedgehog kept shushing us and freezing. I think I remember Boony calling him Mr. Pricklepants.
Anyway, the unicorn unfroze and said to Pricklepants that we were just trying to ask a question. Pericklepants was more concerned about 'staying in character' than what we had to ask. Okay, so he thinks he's some kind of actor. The other two toys then introduced themselves. The unicorn was called Buttercup and the dinosaur was called Trixie. And Pricklepants kept shushing her. I broke them up asking again where we were.
But Trixie was no help saying that we were either in a Cafe in Paris or a Coffee Shop in New Jersey and explained to us what happened to her before we came. All part of Bonnie's imagination, not what really happened. Buttercup then explained that they do a lot of improv here. Isn't that what playtime is? But we couldn't ask any more questions because Bonnie came back.
We played some more until Bonnie ran off yelling that we needed a spaceship to get away from the 'Evil Witch'. We unfroze again and the others seemed to like how well we were doing. Pricklepants even asked if we were classically trained. We didn't answer and Woody asked then how we could get out of here. Buttercup decided to scare us by saying that there was no way out. But there was. We could literally leave at any time.
The doll who was the Evil Witch came over and introduce herself. Her name was Dolly. Should've guessed. We introduced ourselves and Dolly wasn't too fond of our names. She even asked if we wanted to change it since we're in a new room. (Y/N) is fine. I'm not changing it. Woody backed up to see three peas in a pod. One of them asked if Woody was a real Cowboy to which Woody proudly said that he was.
But another Pea said that he wasn't a real Cowboy because he didn't have his hat. Oh yea, he lost it back with the whole tree thing. And it was now that Woody realised that it was gone. It took him this long to notice? Well, I guess he's just used to it being there at this point. I know that feeling. But we froze again when Bonnie came back with the spaceship. And we continued to play for the rest of the day.
And, to be honest, it was really fun. I've missed this. But we still have to get back to Andy before he leaves for College. That night, while Bonnie was asleep, Woody got out of her bed that we were all in and went to her schoolbag that was hanging on the doorknob. I decided to follow him, not wanting to be near the other toys anymore. Thankfully, Boonie's address was on the bag so we now knew where we were.
But where's Andy's house from here? But the toys caught us looking at Bonnie's bag. Woody explained that we had to leave. But Buttercup was confused asking if we had fun today. We did but I told them that we belonged to someone else while showing them Woody's boot. They couldn't read Andy's name on the bottom but Dolly told them what it said.
Woody explained that Andy was our Bonnie and that we had to get back to him since he was leaving soon. Thankfully, the toys were willing to help us. Trixie turned on the family computer and brought up maps. Even more good news for us, Andy lived right around the corner! Yes! We're going home! We made our way to the door which had a cat flap we could go through.
"Hey, listen. If any of you guys ever get to Sunnyside Daycare, you tell 'em Woody and (Y/N) made it home," Woody told everyone and lifted the flap up
"You came from Sunnyside?" Dolly asked
"But how did you all escape?" Trixie asked
"Well, it wasn't easy. We..."
"Woody, stop," I said before he could continue, "What do you mean 'escape'?"
"Sunnyside is a place of ruin and despair, ruled by an evil bear who smells of strawberries," Pricklepants told us
"Lotso?" Woody asked
"The guy may seem plush and huggable on the outside, but inside, he's a monster," Buttercup explained
"Well, that explains why I found him off-putting," I said
"But... how do you know that?" Woody asked them
Pricklepants looked away from us, "Chuckles. He'll tell you."
We looked over to see a clown toy looking out the window. This must be Chuckles.
"Yeah, I knew Lotso. He was a good toy. A friend. Me and him, we had the same kid, Daisy," Chuckles started telling his story, "I was there when Lotso got unwrapped. Daisy loved us all. But Lotso, Lotso was special. They did everything together. You've never seen a kid and a toy more in love. One day, we took a drive. Hit a rest stop. Had a little playtime. After lunch, Daisy fell asleep. She never came back. Lotso wouldn't give up. It took forever, but we finally made it back to Daisy's. But by then, it was too late. Something changed that day inside Lotso. Something snapped."
Chuckles told us what was said:
"She replaced us. Come on!"Lotso said walking away
"No, she only replaced you!" Chuckles tried to explain to him
"SHE REPLACED ALL OF US!!! Didn't she?!" Lotso snapped at him
Big Baby started to climb up to the window but Lotso stops him, grabs his pendant with Daisy's name on it, threw it on the ground, and yanked him away
"We were lost. Cast off. Unloved. Unwanted. Then we found Sunnyside. But Lotso wasn't my friend anymore. He wasn't anybody's friend," Chuckles took out the pendant that Lotso ripped off of Big Baby from his pocket, "He took over Sunnyside and rigged the whole system."
"So how did you get out?" Woody asked
"I got broke. Bonnie found me, took me home. Other toys, they weren't so lucky. It ain't right what Lotso done. New toys, they don't stand a chance."
"Monsieur, I have to ask; Lotso knew what I was. He called me 'Phantom'. That's a fake name I made for myself. How did he know that?" I asked Chuckles
"You're not the first Phantom of the Opera toy Sunnyside has had," Chuckles said, "While I was still there, we had a Christopher arrive there. But he didn't want to stay. He wanted to find you. And since he didn't know your name, he would always call you 'The Phantom' or 'His Angel'."
"What happened to him?"
"He refused to join Lotso so he was put in the Caterpillar Room. He got broke and thrown out. I never saw him again."
I haven't seen one Christopher in years but it still hurt to hear his fate at Sunnyside. We can't leave our friends there. Not after hearing this
"But our friends are in there," Woody said
"You can't go back!" Buttercup said
"Returning now would be suicide!" Pricklepants said
"But what about your Andy?" Dolly asked
"Isn't he leaving for college?" Trixie asked
He is. But we can't let our friends suffer the same fate as Christopher. We have to get them back to Andy's. No matter what.
