Chapter Fourteen: A date

Two years and nothing has happened. Things finally feel normal. Well, almost normal. Andy is now nine years old and Molly is three. Maddie and Jessie have managed to form a sisterly relationship and Maddie has gotten very close to Buzz. Many have guessed they were in a secret relationship but I can see it's just a friendship. But there is a hint that they both feel more than that for each other.

It's honestly not that hard to miss at this point. But they might get closer together in the next few weeks. Andy and his family have gone on a three-week holiday and they've left us all here. Even Woody stayed. So we have the whole house to ourselves. But, at last, I may have a crush on a toy in the room that I can't have. It's become more obvious to me that I'm falling for Woody. But I can't have him. He's with Bo.

I respect their relationship fully so I'm having to ignore these feelings. Which should've been easier said than done. But, at the moment, I'm just on my new spot, on Andy's desk, reading the opera I came with. Well, it's only the one song that's in the show. 'Past the Point of No Return'. This song will never see the light of day in this room. Too inappropriate for some of the toys in the room. But, speaking of toys, Buzz climbed up looking rather dazed. What happened to him? I put my opera down and sat next to him.

"You're looking dazed," I said making him jump out of surprise, "What happened?"

"I, uh, asked Maddie on a date," Buzz said

"Well, that's great!"

"Yeah. Except I don't know what to do! What do I say? What do I do? Should I write a poem? Serenade her?"

"Woah, Woah! Throttle back, Space Ranger. I'll tell you right now that a poem can go two different ways on a first date. It can go amazing or it can crash and burn. So don't do that. As for serenading her, can you even sing?"

"Uh... I don't know."

I had to fight the urge to facepalm. This man has no idea what he's doing. Then again, neither did I. But my failed attempt gave me some experience.

"Could you maybe sing for me?" Buzz suddenly asked

"Buzz, I don't do love songs anymore," I said

"I want to impress Maddie. Please. Just one song."

I went quiet for a moment, "Fine. One song. Then you do the rest."

I hope the one I have in mind will do. It's the only one I know. So, later that night, Buzz set up his date on the desk, next to the window. When it was time, I made my way to the shelf. It's the best place to carry my voice across the room and not be too close to the actual date. But, just as I was struggling to climb up, Woody suddenly appeared asking what I was doing. I gave him a brief explanation and what my side of the plan was.

Hearing enough, Woody helped me get to the top shelf. But, once we reached the top, he stayed with me. He wanted to watch it all unfold. I hope this doesn't go sour. So, Woody and I watched from the shelf. I wasn't told when to sing. Buzz just said 'at the right moment'. Very specific. So, we just watched the date go both right and wrong at the same time. Buzz really has no idea what he was doing. So, just to save him the embarrassment of messing this up completely, I started to sing. Which would both fix Buzz's problem but just give me one.

So, I started, 'Night-time sharpens, heightens each sensation. Darkness stirs and wakes imagination. Silently the senses abandon their defenses.'

I looked back at Woody who looked like he's just been hypnotized. Oh no. This is Christopher all over again.

'Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendor,' I went to Woody's side, 'Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender.'

Woody looked at me but I stopped him, making him turn away, 'Turn your face away from the garish light of day. Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light,' I made him look back at me only for me to look and walk away, 'And listen to the music of the night.'

I looked back at him, 'Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams,' I moved to the right of him, 'Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before. Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar and you'll live as you've never lived before.'

Woody looked at me, still in his dreamy state. I really hope Bo doesn't see this. I didn't mean to do this to Woody.

'Softly, deftly, music shall caress you. Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you. Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind in this darkness that you know you cannot fight,' I leaned against the wall behind me, 'The darkness of the music of the night,'

Woody leaned up against me, lightly touching my mask. I don't know what was going through his mind but I think he was knocked out of his trance and tried to leave. Not wanting him to freak out more, I got him back under my control

'Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be. Only then can you belong to me.'

I went behind Woody and put my hands on his shoulders. I looked back at Buzz and Maddie who were doing better on their date now. They were having a slow dance to my singing. Okay, (Y/N), just continue.

'Floating, falling, sweet intoxication. Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation,' Woody tried to take my mask but I noticed and stopped him, 'Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in to the power of the music that I write. The power of the music of the night.'

I backed away but noticed Bo walking into the room. She can't see this. I snapped my fingers and Woody passed out. Before he could fall, I caught him and leaned him up against the wall. I hope he won't remember this when he wakes up. I walked back over to the edge to see things still going normal. But all the others had been watching either me and Woody or Maddie and Buzz. I hope they don't snitch on me. I just finished my song.

'You alone can make my song take flight. Help me make the music of the night.'

And Buzz finally confessed to Maddie who confessed back. I did not expect this song to work. Or even hypnotize Woody for that matter. I stayed up on the shelf with Woody until he woke up. When he did, he tried to remember what happened but I encouraged him not to remember. Good, he doesn't know what happened. And it can stay that way.
