Protecting My People

Scott's Perspective-

Scott sat in the library, observing the crystal which held Rivendell's magic.

At least the corruption hasn't infected it yet...I wonder what would happen if it does. Scott hummed and looked back up, narrowing his eyes as he saw an ominous orange glow right above the crystal.

"What the-?" He walked around and gasped as he saw the lava crystal above had cracked and started to spill fire.

Scott quickly ran out and tripped, stumbling to the ground.

He grunted and propped himself up on his elbows.

Scott heard other crystals breaking and he panicked, not knowing what to do or where to go. He felt his anxiety spike and looked back up, seeing the lava starting to infect the crystal.

Scott gasped and he quickly sprung up, running back inside as the lava sealed the exit and dripped inside. He tried to climb the bookcases but fell, the heat starting to raise his body temperature.

No, no no!! Please, I can't have this happen!! Scott cried as he desperately tried to stop the lava from consuming the crystal. He heard his father shout at him from outside, but Scott couldn't hear him over his thoughts.

Scott jumped up to climb and he felt his feet stop reaching the ground. He grew confused and gasped as he spun in a circle in the air.

"Huh?" He turned around, his eyes widened as he saw wings. They were big snowy white owl wings that had grown off his back, and there was gold on top of them, but it didn't add much weight to them.

"What the- "

He yelped as they launched him into the air and he took a deep breath, focusing on the bigger task. He flew up to the crystal and perched on it. The lava was starting to seal the top and Scott had no idea how to stop it.

He felt his hands get cold, freezing cold, and he was confused. He looked at them and saw them glowing a faint blue.

He gasped as he felt power surging through them; he pointed it towards the lava and ice flew out of his hands. His eyes widened and he smiled, starting to create a strong shield around the lava. The ice melted but cooled the lava, so it turned into obsidian.

The lava around the building slowly fell, and his knights dug a quick moat dripping down the nearby cliff.

Scott walked out, sweating. He smiled faintly and felt weak. His mother rushed over and hugged him.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt? Burned?" She checked his arms and face, and her eyes widened as she saw that Scott had wings.

"You have wings?"

"Surprise?" Scott smiled a bit, and his father ran over.

He seemed surprised by his son's new appearance at first, but soon he smiled.

"Nice job, Scott." Wallis ruffled Scott's head and Scott smiled. He looked around and saw most of the lava was dealt with and people were safe.

"I'm just happy no one's hurt." Scott said.

Wallis smiles at Allison, who nods.

Scott tilts his head and Wallis puts his hands on his shoulders.

"Scott, I see that you're fit to be king."

Scott's eyes widened.

"I know this is a lot, sweetie, but this situation just showed how you are willing to protect your people no matter what." Allison smiled encouragingly.

"I- I still need to practice though! I- I just got these!!" Scott showed his parents his wings, which still confused him.

"Well, you don't have to worry about it until your seventeenth birthday. For now, let's get you some rest." Wallis said and Scott nodded.

He followed his parents back to the castle, passing by the village and people who thanked him. Scott smiled as he shook a blacksmith's hand, and his eyes fell on a creature in the forest behind.

Scott's eyes widened as he saw the demon, who smiled.

Scott felt the area around him disappear and it was just him and the demon.

"There's only so much Aeor's powers can do. And luckily, healing isn't one of them!" The demon said in a cheerful voice before snapping and disappearing.

Scott gasped as he snapped back, and the blacksmith looked worried.

"Prince Scott, are you alright?"

Scott looked up and he smiled.

"Y-yes, sorry, I'm just...very worn out." He tried to laugh before taking his hand back and walking up the steps towards the castle.
