A Flicker of Hope
Xornoth's Perspective-
Xornoth heard the front gate open and practically ran downstairs, wanting to hear how Scott and Wallis' mission went.
Xornoth saw Wallis carrying an unconscious Joey and he gasped.
"Joey! What- what happened?" Xornoth asked, watching as Wallis ordered a guard to get in contact with Joey's father.
"Where's Scott?" Allison asked, walking over.
Wallis sighed, "Scott's in The End."
"What happened?" Xornoth and Allison asked, confused and scared.
"Joey pushed Scott into the portal before I was able to get the crown off him. Scott fell before I could reach him, and Joey fainted after the power left his body." Wallis explained.
"And you just left Scott behind?" Xornoth asked, shaking.
"There was nothing I could do. If I went in, we would both be stuck there since the only way out of the End is to kill the dragon."
"D-do you think Scott's going to kill it?" Allison asked.
Wallis sighed, "I don't know. But I imagine he probably is. Either that or...he'd just be stuck there."
Xornoth looked down and felt his hands shake.
"Xornoth, it's going to be okay; we're going to figure out a way to stop the demon." Wallis said, though he didn't look very confident.
Xornoth felt tears form in his eyes and his parents hugged him as he sobbed.
-
It had been a couple of days, and Azar was staying in Rivendell while they waited for Joey to wake up. Rivendell had more skilled magic to help Joey, but so far nothing had worked.
Azar was not happy with what had happened, and he often argued with Wallis, who didn't bother arguing back. He was too worried about his sons.
Xornoth sighed as he heard Azar shouting at his father downstairs. He stood up and was about to see why he was shouting when he decided to check up on Joey.
Xornoth peeked into the room Joey was staying in to check up on him. He sat down on the chair near the bed and stared at him.
He sighed, feeling lost and confused.
He hadn't seen or felt the demon in a couple of days now, and no one had heard from Scott since he fell through the portal.
Xornoth got lost in his thoughts when he heard Joey groan.
Xornoth shot up and looked at Joey, who slowly opened his eyes.
"Joey! You're awake!" Xornoth said in disbelief.
"What...happened?" Joey asked, slowly sitting up on his elbows.
"A...a lot. How do you feel?"
"My head hurts and my body is really sore."
"Do you remember anything?"
Joey looked down and he shook his head.
"I remember seeing this crown and you but that's about it."
Xornoth hummed and nodded.
"But where am I? Where's my dad? What happened?" Joey asked.
"It- it's a long story."
Joey looked confused and Xornoth sighed.
"I'm so sorry you got dragged into this." He whispered, resting his head on Joey's shoulder.
Joey blushed and he hugged Xornoth.
"It- it's okay. I'm just...confused." Joey said.
Xornoth laughed weakly, "We all are."
He leaned back and wiped his eyes.
Joey's hand made its way into Xornoth's and they both blushed and smiled at each other.
"You look really cute in this lighting, you know?" Xornoth said and Joey giggled, blushing.
"Well I think you look prettier." Joey said and Xornoth smiled, gently brushing a strand of Joey's hair behind his ear.
Joey hesitated before leaning in, his heart racing.
Xornoth shut his eyes and kissed Joey, running his hand through his hair.
He knew things were bad, and that they were going to get a lot worse,
but for now?
Everything seemed like it would be okay.
