Chapter 5: Family of Wind and Fire

"Nevermore was created as a safe haven for our children to learn and to grow, no matter who or what they are. I realize most of you have heard about the unfortunate incident involving one of our students. But I'm happy to report that Eugene is on the mend and is expected to make a full recovery. So let's focus on the positive and make this Parents' Weekend our very best yet."

As Weems finishes her speech the crowd of parents and students applauded seemingly having their concerns alleviated for the time being. Unfortunately for her though three students weren't buying her twisted words and truths for even a second as they stood together watching her. Wednesday, Enid and Y/N.

"On the mend my ass." Y/N scoffed as he stood Wednesday and Enid

"Try in a coma." Wednesday said.

"Have you guys been to see him? You're his friends." Enid said and turned to Wednesday and Y/N

"I have and I've been trying to convince Wednesday but--" Y/N tries to finish but Wednesday cuts him off "But I'm the reason he's in the hospital" She says and Y/N turns in her direction.

"Don't you dare think that none of this is your fault, it's that damn monster's. It's been quiet this week though, maybe we scared it off."

"Or maybe it went into hiding to avoid this weekend." Wednesday says before two crossing winds wrap themselves around Y/N one of them a more jumbled and less chilling version of Wednesday's and the other a strange yet singing heat that felt almost...familiar. Y/N quickly shakes the strange feeling out of his mind for now and looks at Wednesday.

"If the winds are anything to go by I'd say your family's close by Addams." Y/N says, and Wednesday scans the room eventually spotting them as they walk into the courtyard.

"I knew I should have worn my plague mask." She says and Y/N chuckles

"Would you look at my family? Enid says, they look over to them running around and leaping about like wild dogs. "Talk about toxic pack mentality. I give my mom 30 seconds before her judge-y claws come out." Enid says before taking a deep breath "Let's get this over with." Enid says before walking towards her family leaving Y/N and Wednesday to themselves, she glances at the boy slightly curious.

"What of your family Yagami are they here as well?" She asks and Y/N shrugs casually

"That would require having a family to come here in the first place, It's a bit complicated but for simplicities sake let's just say I don't have one anymore." He says and Wednesday stares at him for a moment before she nods. "Although I can't wait to meet your family Wednesday." He says excitedly and Wednesday immediately stared daggers into him

"Absolutely not."

"Oh come on why not? they seem nice and I'm sure they'd love me." He says flashing his signature pure, contagious, and idiotic smile much to Wednesday's annoyance

"Your carefree and idiotic nature combined with their dismay and annoyance is exactly why, I'd much rather be subjected to the most gruesome of tortures than have to deal with all of that." She fired coldly but Y/N was having none of it.

"I'm sure it'll be fine." Y/N takes a step forwards and Wednesday roughly grabbed him by the collar before yanking him down to her level staring what could only be described as the essence of death itself into his eyes.

"I.Said.No." She says, and before Y/N can say anything else, her family spots Wednesday holding him by the collar and so close to her.

"There she is. Oh, how we missed those accusing eyes and youthful sneer." A voice calls out, Y/N and Wednesday turn to the origin of the voice and see her family approaching them. "Oh, are we interrupting something?" Wednesday quickly pushes Y/N off knocking him to the ground and the first to hug Wednesday was Gomez, a slightly short and ample Hispanic man. He hugs Wednesday who seems as irked as usual but lets him anyways. "And you must me be one of Wednesday's new friends," Gomez says to Y/N who quickly gets back to his feet and turns his attention to the man, he feels a dark and killer wind wrap itself around him as Wednesday glares at him.

"He must be much more than a friend darling, I've never seen anyone being held so viscously and looked at with such murderous intent by Wednesday before, How are you, my little rain cloud?" Morticia Addams, the matriarch of the Addams family. A tall, mesmerizing woman asked, with long black hair and a stunning figure, it was no question where Wednesday got her striking and dangerous beauty from but in Y/N's eyes and heart, it was no contest as he glanced at her.

"I thought Thing was filling you in on my every move. I uncovered your feeble subterfuge almost immediately." She says, to the slight surprise of her parents

"So, how's the little fella doing? Does he still have all his fingers?" Gomez asks.

"Relax. I haven't snapped any of his digits. Yet." Wednesday says, they then turn their attention to Y/N next to her.

"And you are?" Morticia asks. "Y/N Yagami, Wednesday is a very...important friend to me." He explains and Wednesday scowls

"He's an idiotic windbreaker and A Contractor." She says and Y/N smiles. Morticia's eyes slightly widen

"A Contractor you say and one so young, fascinating I can feel why the spirits chose you." She says as Wednesday and Y/N look at her surprised. "You know about th--" Y/N tries to finish but Gomez quickly wraps him in a hug as well.

"It's nice to know our little bear trap has caught herself a beast." He says, "Welcome to our family." He says, and Wednesday is boiling. Pugsley then walks up to Y/N

"How have you done it?" He asks Y/N who shrugs his shoulders

"Uh, done what?"

"Survived being friends with my sister this long? I assumed she would have killed them all." He said, Y/N smiles and laughs a bit.

"Well, that hasn't stopped her from trying I'll tell you that much. But it doesn't matter." He says turning to her "Because no amount of attempts on my life would make me wanna leave her side" Wednesday's face froze in cold dead silence as the strange feeling in her chest flickered for a moment before she jabs into his side as he leaned close to her in pain.

"Once they leave, I promise you no one will be able to find or recognize your body." She says with a cold truth and murderous intent lacing every word. Y/N just laughs nervously, but the Addams seemed completely unfazed with Gomez and Morticia enjoying their display.

"So tell us everything." Morticia asks Wednesday who turns to her mother, Y/N rubs his side in pain.

"Since you've abandoned me here, I've been hunted, haunted... and the target of an attempted murder." Wednesday smirks slightly as she finishes

"Ah, Nevermore. I love you so." Gomez cheers in the mayhem of it all

"Please Mr. Yagami, would you excuse us?" Morticia says as the Addams family leaves, Y/N sighs before walking off on his own towards his dorm, as he does the strange singeing winds from before returns wrapping itself all around him as it whispers in his ears its heat growing more and more as it guides him towards the greater forest.

"Come on out, I know you're there." He says to seemingly no one but the trees of the forest "I can't believe it, after all this time it's really you." A voice responds, Y/N's eyes focus in, cold and serious "What are you talking about?" A few seconds pass and from the trees emerges a young boy no older than 12 from the looks of it, with Ash blonde hair and Emerald green eyes staring at Y/N in shock and awe.

"Who the hell are you?" He says and the boy's face drops immediately, saddened and offended

"Come on, don't tell me you forgot what your own brother looks like!" He shouts, Y/N's eyes widened instantly.

"My brother...Ren?" He says, the boy walks up to him with an annoyed look on his face

"That's me." He says dryly,

"Man you sure got big what's it been like a million years?" Y/N jokes and Ren sighs

"It's only been four Y/N." He says "Sure feels like a heck of a lot longer than that to me, do you remember when I left home back then?" Y/N asks and Ren pouts "Yes, how could I forget it you didn't even bother to say goodbye to me." he says, Y/N chuckles softly

"Sorry about that, so whatcha up to, why'd you come all the way out here to Nevermore?" He asked to which Ren scoffs "To talk to the brother I haven't seen in years." He says as Y/N just looks at him for a moment a feeling of regret making its way through him before walking past Ren towards his dorm "Right."

"Where are you going?"

"Up to my dorm to relax for a bit, I got a feeling today's gonna be a crazy day." He says turning back to him "Well, you coming or what?" Y/N said, shooting his signature smile and Ren smiles back almost identically as he happily follows behind him.

The Addams family enters Principal Weems's office. As Morticia looks through their old yearbook.

"Our old yearbook. I haven't laid eyes on this in over 20 years. Such good times we had, didn't we, Larissa?"

"Some of us better than others." Larissa replies with an obviously fake smile

"Oh, don't be so modest. You always filled a room with your presence. Like a stately sequoia tree.

"And I guess that would make you the lumberjack."

"There's that biting sense of humor that I always adored. Do you remember when we did that duet for the Solstice Talent Show? Your Judy Garland impression was a dead ringer."

"Sounds positively suicidal." Wednesday adds in

"Oh. My picture's gone." Morticia says, and Weems smirks knowingly

"Really? Well, that is odd."

"May I borrow this for the weekend? That way Gomez and I can take a little walk down memory lane." Morticia asks.

"All right. Let's get down to the matter at hand, shall we? Hmm? Unfortunately, Wednesday's assimilation has been...rocky at best. Weems says

"Because I refuse to embrace the culture of dishonesty and denial permeating this school. Starting with the monster that killed Rowan and put Eugene in the ICU. Although I do hear he's on the mend." Wednesday says with venomous sarcasm.

"We've always encouraged Wednesday to speak her mind. Sometimes her sharp tongue can cut deep." Gomez said

"Apparently her therapist feels she hasn't been very open to the process. Their time together has not yielded the results we'd hoped." Weems replies

"I'm not a lab rat."

"Dr. Kinbott and I have spoken, and we both agree it would be most beneficial for you all to attend a family session this weekend." Weems insists

"No." Wednesday replies.

"I thought that might be your reaction, but your parents can see the wisdom in it." Weems sneers.

"Um, not to side with Wednesday, but, um, we're only here for the weekend." Morticia jumps in

"Oh, come on. What can it hurt? To be honest, I've always been a big fan of head-shrinking." Gomez said.

"It's not that kind of head-shrinking, mon chéri."

"Well, that is disappointing." Gomez says sadly

"But anything for our little girl." Morticia says, much to scalding hatred of Wednesday. The entire family sat inside Dr. Kinbott's office in loud, awkward silence.

"So, who wants to start? Maybe we can discuss what it's like having Wednesday away from home?" Kinbott asks. Pugsley was the first to open up.

"I mean, for me...it's been hard not having Wednesday around. I never thought I'd miss being waterboarded so much." He said.

"Morticia, Gomez. How have you been coping?" She asks

"It's been torture for us too." Morticia starts

"Fortunately, my brother Fester's rack fits two people." Gomez adds in

"Nothing like a good stretch to bring out the best in each other. Querida mía."

Morticia and Gomez couldn't keep their hands off each other, which sends Wednesday over the brink.

"Enough! I think it's high time my parents faced the music. It seems they've been lying to me. Keeping secrets. Murderous secrets that need to be addressed. Who was Garrett Gates, and why are you accused of murdering him?" She says, the question clearly triggers some unpleasant memories for the both of them.

"Those charges were dropped. Your father is an innocent man." Morticia said

"Local sheriff doesn't seem too convinced."

"Wednesday, stop. This is neither the time nor the place."

"Actually, this is exactly the place. These sessions are--"

"Doctor. This does not concern you. And I refuse to debate a decades-old witch-hunt with you right now. I--"

"Darling, maybe we should..." Gomez begins, but Morticia stops him.

"No. This session is over."

"Have it your way, Mother." Wednesday stands up to leaves

"Wednes... Wednesday?" Morticia stood up as well

"If you refuse to tell me the truth, I'll just have to excavate it myself." Wednesday leaves as Pugsley smiles at Dr. Kinbott.

"You...Thanks for the candy. He says to her

"Actually, that's potpourri. Why don't you take the bowl?" She says, and Pugsley happily accepts. Outside, Wednesday argues with her mother.

"What were you thinking? How could you ambush your father like that? Wednesday!"

"How could I? You insisted I go to this school. Did you really think I wouldn't find out your secret?"

"You don't know the full story. Your father did nothing wrong."

"I'll be the judge of that." Wednesday leaves heading to the Hospital finally to see Eugene. He was still in a coma, a Ventilator attached to help him breathe properly. She places a jar of honey down.

"I harvested hive number three. The bees miss you, Eugene. We all do." She continues, by his heart monitor, Thing crawls out.

"Thanks for keeping an eye on him. Any updates?" She asks and Thing shakes his finger no.

"He didn't deserve this. I should be in that bed. Why did you go without me?" She says to Thing, A familiar pleasant breeze brushes across her face as Y/N appears beside her.

"Don't worry he's gonna be back on his feet and buzzing around in no time, and we'll make sure that bastard thing pays for doing this to him I promise." He says, Wednesday turns to him and he does the same giving her a small smile.

"So, guessing time with your family hasn't been the greatest huh?" He asks.

"Just as usual, I recently discovered that my father might actually be a murderer." She answers and Y/N chuckles "Wanna talk about it?" He asks

"No." She answers blunt and cold, Y/N shrugs "Alright, well if it makes you feel any better you're not the only one who got a surprise from their family today." He says and she looks at him slightly intrigued "Explain." Both Wednesday and Y/N walk out of the hospital to find a whistling Ren patiently waiting for them outside, he quickly turns around to see them.

"Hey, you're back is this her?" Ren asks and Y/N nods "Yup this is her, Wednesday Addams meet Ren Kannagi...my little brother." Y/N says, Ren quickly walks over to her and holds his hand out for a handshake "It's very nice to meet you Wednesday my brother told me a lot about you, and he was right too you are terrifyingly beautiful." He finishes and flashes a smile that Wednesday instantly recognizes as Y/N's before turning to him and staring with a face that could only be described as "Start talking or else." Y/N chuckles lightly before clearing his throat

"Right, I should probably explain."

"Please do, I've grown very tired of the people I associate with hiding their dirty little secrets." She says angrily as she glares daggers into him, Ren immediately takes a step back in fear and watches as his brother remains completely unfazed, his look of ease from being around her never wavering before he takes a deep breath and sighs before starting.

"Right, I come from a long line of outcasts specialized in wielding the power of fire called the Kannagi's. Our family was granted this power when our ancestor made a contract with the Spirit King of Fire granting him all the powers of his domain and turning him into the first Contractor, allowing the use of fire magic to spread within the family for generations to come... Only except for me, the black sheep of the family an outcast among outcasts unable to control his own flames. I trained for years trying my hardest to gain control but in the end, it was all pointless and before long, my own family saw me as such too, so when I was 12 no older than Ren is now they casted me out, disowned me, abandoned me no longer fit to hold the Kannagi name in their eyes." Y/N's eyes glance over to Ren who now held his head low in shame desperately trying to fight back tears, Y/N simply raises his hand and lays it gently on his little brother patting him softly, He looks to Wednesday to find her fist clenched tightly the whites of her knuckles showing, as a frozen furry burn in her eyes not at Y/N but for him. Y/N continues

"So, from that day on I casted off my family name and liberated myself from the last hold they had on me. Y/N Kannagi was gone and from the winds came Y/N Yagami The Contractor entrusted by The Spirit King of the Wind with the powers of his domain...The Stigma of the Wind.

Y/N, Wednesday, and Ren eventually leave back to Nevermore, where a massive massive lunch for all the families is being served.

"Mmm. I am famished. You're not hungry, darling?" Morticia asks Wednesday who folds his arms.

"My appetite eludes me, Mother. The same way the truth eludes you." She says and walks off towards Y/N and Ren who were happily sharing a plate of chicken tenders their pure brotherly smiles glowing more than ever. Gomez walks over having heard their conversation.

"We need to tell her." He says.

"She'll never believe us. We must stay strong. And hope that something more morbid comes along to distract her...like perhaps our future son-in-law. "Morticia says.

"Y/N and Ren obliviously eat their food and mess around with one another, Y/N using his winds to steal a piece of chicken from him and Ren burning it with his flames before he could eat it.

"Clever little twirp." Y/N says playfully and Ren chuckles.

In contrast to the both of them, Enid's lunch with her family was...less than stellar, her brothers gouge down their food and her mother looks at her.

"So are you going to make me ask? She says, and Enid smirks a bit.

Ajax and I haven't defined our relationship yet."

"I'm not talking about boys. Have you wolfed out yet?" She asks, which quickly soured Enid's already low mood.

"No."

"Well, that is a disappointment." Her mother says, and Enid slumps down.

"That's me. A huge disappointment." She says hurt and defeated her moment of sorrow cut short by the doors to Nevermore slamming open. The sheriff, along with a squadron of officers storm over to Gomez.

"Can I ask what this is about, Sheriff?" Weems says, but she ignores her and keeps moving

"Gomez Addams." Sheriff Galpin says.

"How can I help you, Sheriff?" Gomez says calmly before quickly being put in handcuffs.

"You're under arrest for the murder of Garrett Gates. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed for you." He says, and takes him away, a wind of confusion blowing all over Nevermore, Y/N quickly shot to his feet and began to look for Wednesday, who has angrier than anything else. The two eventually meet in the corridors hours later, and Y/N speaks to her.

"You doing alright?" Y/N asks concerned

"It's too convenient, my father returns on parent's day and is arrested?" She says. And Y/N nods in agreement

"Yeah, the winds don't feel right with any of this. We need to get the full story about what really happened that night with Garrett Gates and your dad." He says

"Indeed."

"Then there's only one thing theft to do..." He says before summoning a swirling wind underneath his feet hovering up slightly before looking at her with his signature smile as he holds his hand out for her. "To hear it from the man himself." He finishes, Wednesday glares at him for a moment before sighing in defeat and taking his hand and squeezing as hard as she can as she holds onto him before they take off towards the prison holding Gomez. He was surprised to see Wednesday and Y/N and motions for them to sit.

"My little tormenta, how's your mother?" He asks.

"Devastated. She hates you in orange. I caught her laying a rose on a grave earlier today. The headstone read "Garrett Gates." The very boy you've been arrested for murdering. Care to explain?" she says

"We're gonna need the full story, if we're gonna prove your innocence." He said, and Gomez nods before starting

"Garrett was infatuated with your mother. He mistook her kindness for interest. His infatuation turned into obsession, and he started stalking her."

"Why didn't you call the police?"

"We tried. But his family were the oldest and richest in Jericho. No one believed us. Garrett's father, an outcast-hating bigot, was furious that your mother had accused his only son. It all came to a head the night of the Rave'N Dance. Your mother and I stepped out to catch our breath. And that's when I saw him. He had broken into the school. His twisted love for your mother had made him insane. His eyes bore into me, brimming with murderous intent. My life flashed before my eyes. Driven by jealousy and hate, Garrett was unstoppable. When I saw the sword, my survival instinct kicked in. It was a terrible accident." Gomez finishes his story and the two look at each other for a moment as they process it before moving to discuss.

"If I'm being objective, his confession sounds entirely plausible, delivered with the perfect degree of sincerity. Perhaps my father is exactly what he says. Thank you for being honest with me. But then there's the matter of his tells. The way he smooths his mustache. The way he delivers a comforting wink. I've been playing Russian roulette with him since I was 12. I know them well."

"Yeah, I get what you mean it seems believable, but the winds around him are telling a different story but either way Gates wanted to kill your dad, and who knows what he would have done to your mom, the bastard got what he deserved and that alone makes him innocent in my book." He says and the both of them return to sit, and Gomez looks at them ashamed.

"I'm sorry I wasn't a better father."

"Could we please do without the overt display of emotion?" Wednesday said.

"I know they make you feel uncomfortable."

"How many fathers hand their daughter a fencing blade when she's five?"

"Your saber strokes were an essay in perfection."

"Or teach her how to swim with sharks?"

"They found you as cold-blooded as I do."

"The right way to flay a rattlesnake?"

"They really do taste like chicken when prepared properly."

"The point is, you taught me how to be strong and independent. How to navigate myself in a world full of treachery and prejudice. You are the reason I understand how imperative it is that I never lose sight of myself. So as far as fatherhood goes, I would say you've been more than adequate." Wednesday said, Y/N smiled seeing that behind her normal cold heart was a slight spot of warm care for her family.

"Gracias, Wednesday." He says warmly, the Two of them go to leave before Gomez calls out to them. "Wait if it is alright Wednesday, I would like to speak with Y/N for a moment longer." He says she quickly glances at the young Contractor who shrugs his shoulders "Do as you like, Y/N I'll be waiting." She says before walking out leaving Y/N and Gomez alone.

"What is it you wanna talk about sir?." He asks and Gomez chuckles lightly "Just Gomez is fine hijo you're already a part of the family in my eyes regardless of if Wednesday thinks so or not, I just wanted to ask you one question." He says and Y/N nods "Sure, what is it?"

"Why do you love my daughter?" He asks and Y/N's eyes widen a bit caught off guard by the question, he thinks for a moment the reasons numbering in the hundreds to thousands before he gets it, Y/N sighs happily and looks at Gomes with a burning confidence in his eyes.

"She takes my breath away." He says and Gomez smiles and nods supportively before Y/N leaves the room and finds Wednesday waiting for him.

"What did my father wish to discuss with you?" She asks, Y/N smirks

"Oh, he just wanted to tell me a couple of cute stories of when you we--" He quickly cuts himself off as he narrowly catches Wednesday's fist mere seconds before it made contact with his face, and Y/N chuckles "Shut.your.mouth." Wednesday said angrily her fist still in his hand with her other at the ready as she glared at him filled with murderous intent.

"You're so cute when you're angry, come on let's head back." He says, Wednesday slowly puts her fist down and nods before walking over to him and grabbing onto him as they took off, with her squeezing the air out of him the entire flight for calling her cute.

"We need to talk" Wednesday says as she walks into the sheriff's office, catching him off guard as he reads a newspaper.

"How the hell did you get in? Bernice? Bernice!"

"Bernice may or may not have received a call that her tabby cat Swifty is being held for ransom. My father did not kill Garrett Gates."

"Well, I have his signed confession, and he identified the saber he used to do it. Both of which I'm about to deliver to the District Attorney."

"Don't you find the timing convenient? The coroner kills himself out of remorse for a decades-old murder case the very weekend my father, your prime suspect, deigns to return to town."

"All I see is a guilty man who's finally going to pay for his crime. And cuffing him myself, oh, that was the icing on the cake." He smirks, drinking his coffee.

"How are you failing to see that someone is desperately trying to derail my investigation? I found the monster's cave, and I gave you the DNA evidence. Did you even bother to test it?"

"This may come as a shock, but the world doesn't revolve around you. Here. DNA results. No match. Inconclusive."

"So you truly believe this is all some coincidence? Whoever hurt Eugene also murdered the coroner."

"Unfortunately, someone sabotaged the security camera in the morgue, so we don't know what happened. They stuck bubblegum on the lens. Black bubblegum. Maybe I should run DNA on that? The sheriff said, and Wednesday recalls what he was talking about but brushed past it.

"Someone is trying to throw me off my game. This is all a distraction."

"No, this is about justice being served. Garrett Gates's family deserves closure, even if none of them are around to take comfort in it."

"What happened to them?"

"His mother hung herself in the backyard. His father drank himself to an early grave. Even his little sister didn't escape. She was orphaned, sent overseas, ended up drowning. Every last one of them's gone. Your father doesn't just have Garrett's blood on his hands, he's got the whole damn family's." The sheriff says, wanting some kind of actual justice to be served, Wednesday leaves quietly, eventually finding Pugsley sitting at a small lake as she approaches.

"Go away."

"You forgot your fishing gear." She says as she was carrying a small bag

"Stop trying to be nice. It doesn't suit you."

"Father packed your favorite bait." She says, pugsley reaches into the bag of fish bait, which were actual hand grenades.

"What'll happen to him now?" He asks Wednesday

"Well, he's confessed, so there won't be a trial. After he's sentenced, he'll be sent to a state penitentiary, where he'll lose his mind being separated from Mother. Did you know they haven't spent a night apart since they tied the knot?" Wednesday said

"I always thought I'd be the first one in the family behind bars." Pugsley says sadly

"Lurch and I had a bet going. Come on. Let's see if the fish are biting." Wednesday said, Pugsley took the pin off of one of the grenades before tossing it into the water, it explodes under the water and dead fish quickly float to the surface.

"That's quite a catch." She says.

"I'm gonna miss him, Wednesday." Pugsley said depressingly.

"It's not over yet. He's innocent."

"Well, if anyone can figure out who really committed the crime... it's you. You have to find out the truth and free Dad."

"Well, until that happens, we both know Mother will be falling apart. Which means we have to be strong. And by "we," I mean you. Now, give me one of those." Wednesday says, Pugsley hands her a grenade and she tosses it, it explodes in the water.

"Where is Mother anyway?" Wednesday asked

"She said she wanted to be alone. Somewhere where no one would find her." He replies and the answer clicked inside Wednesday's head almost instantly. Inside the hidden library in Nevermore where she and Y/N had been captured. Morticia looks around so perceptibly.

"Hello, Mother."

"Hello, Wednesday. So you're a Nightshade. That didn't take long."

"Actually, I rejected them."

"Why? Because I was a member?"

"I'll never live up to your legacy here, so why try? I win the Poe Cup, you claimed it four times. I join the fencing team, you captained it. Why would you send me somewhere I could only ever exist in your shadow?"

"It's not a competition, Wednesday."

"Everything is a competition, Mother. But mostly I rejected them because they're a trivial social club."

"We used to be so much more. Our mission was to protect outcasts from harm and bigotry. In fact, the group was started by an ancestor of your father's from Mexico. One of the first settlers in America." Morticia says, and Wednesday jumps in

"Goody. I saw her painting at Pilgrim World."

"Oh. How ironic, since she was the one who killed Joseph Crackstone. The Nightshades were her secret, but deadly, answer to his oppression. I know why you've come here, Wednesday. So go on. Ask."

"Father didn't kill Garrett Gates, did he?" Wednesday asks, and Morticia reveals the whole truth behind that night.

"By the time I made it up the stairs, I found your father fighting for his life. It was terrifying. Garrett, no! I'll never forget the way he looked at me. He was even foaming at the mouth. It was like I was staring into the eyes of a rabid beast. It wasn't your father that picked up the sword, it was me. It was only when I heard the scream that I realized what I'd done. Your father was so... calm and brave. Your father took the blame in order to protect me. I was so grateful when they cleared him of any wrongdoing. But I knew, someday this would come back to haunt us." Morticia says, as a single tear falls down her cheek. Wednesday processes this but immediately notices something strange in her story

"You said Garrett was foaming at the mouth. His eyes didn't look human."

"I've never seen someone so blinded by rage."

"Maybe it wasn't rage at all. Foaming saliva, dilated pupils, mental confusion. What are those all textbook symptoms of?" Wednesday asks her mother, who quickly pieces it all together

"But how can that be? She asks, and Wednesday smirks "There's only one way to find out."

Wednesday and Morticia quickly arrive in the dead of night at the cemetery to prove their theory and begin to dig up Gate's grave with Wednesday seemingly enjoying herself a great deal while doing so. Morticia was there, just watching.

"This reminds me of when you got your first grave-digging kit. You were so happy, you nearly smiled."

"Are you sure you don't want to join? Wednesday asks, and Morticia tries to play it off.

"Uh... mm... No, that's okay, darling. I don't want to spoil your fun." she says, Wednesday continues digging until she jams her shovel into the coffin.

"Moment of truth." She opens the coffin and smiles at the putrid smell of death, she looks at the corpse of Garrett to see hints of blue on his body.

"Hello, Garrett. I was right." She says before they were both discovered by Deputy Sandiago.

"Well, well, what do we have here? Guess there's gonna be an Addams family reunion in lockup tonight. You're both under arrest."

Wednesday and Morticia were then taken into prison and put in a cell next to Gomez where he and Morticia wasted no time...reuniting

"I've seen jackals with more self-control than you two. Neither one of you are strong enough to serve hard time. And thanks to me, you won't have to." But before she could begin her plan, Y/N and Ren were let in to see her, the former having a playful look on his face.

"Wow, you were actually caught grave robbing Addams I'm disappointed, but don't worry doesn't change anything about how I feel about you, Oh hi Gomez and Morticia." He says, they wave to him as they continue kissing, Y/N shields Ren's eyes with one hand before glancing back to Wednesday who scowled at him a small amount of color on her face hearing him throughout his feelings towards her so casually.

"What are you doing here Yagami." She asks annoyed, Y/N chuckles "To bust you out obviously, unless you already have a plan to get out of here" He says and Wednesday smirks "As a matter of fact I do." She says and signals for Y/N to come closer which he does, she quickly places something in his hand and Y/N looks at it for a moment confused. It was a wrapping of some kind, he slowly opens it to find a severed and rotten finger. He looks at her while Ren looks about ready to throw up

"Aw, Wednesday that's so sweet, but I'm afraid I didn't get you anything."

"Shut up and listen you idiot, It's a souvenir from our outing in the cemetery. I borrowed it from Garrett. He died from nightshade poisoning. The preservation of the tissue and the blue tint on the finger confirms it. Which means Garrett was already going to die--"

"Even before he was stabbed." Y/N says, much to the relief of Morticia and Gomes, "But why would Garett on nightshade on him at the time, and what was he gonna use it for?"

"I had a vision when I snapped off his finger"

"Ew" Ren said completely grossed out

"Nice" Y/N said supportingly, Ren looked to his older brother concerned who returns the look with one of his own that could only be described as "You'll understand when you're older."

"Shut up. The night Garrett died, he had a vial of nightshade poison that broke in his pocket. He wasn't just trying to kill my father. He was going to use the nightshade to kill everyone in the entire school." She explains "With this information, It should be more than enough to exonerate my father, my mother, and me." Wednesday said. Y/N and Ren then both flashed their contagious brotherly smile.

"Then what are we waiting for." Ren said before creating a powerful flame in his hand and melting away the door to Wednesday and Morticia's cell.

"Let's go commit extortion!" Y/N says cheerfully and Wednesday couldn't help but smile at him just slightly as she and her mother exit the cell and leave to go talk to a certain mayor.

"Thank you for seeing us at such short notice, Mr. Mayor."

"Yes, well, veiled threats have that effect, especially ones involving winds and fire."

"Garrett Gates wasn't killed by a stab wound." Wednesday says as she and her mother approach his desk laying the severed finger out in front of him. "That blue sheen is a telltale sign of nightshade poisoning. But you already knew that, didn't you? Because back when you were sheriff, you were in charge and covered it up." Morticia asks. The mayor scowls.

"Ansel Gates hated outcasts and Nevermore. He claimed the land the school was built on was stolen from his family over 200 years ago. Garrett went there that night to spike the punch and kill all the kids at that dance. Ansel confessed the whole thing to me in a drunken stupor. It was his idea."

"So then why did you have Dr. Anwar falsify the autopsy report?" Y/N said. "You knew the truth about how he really died."

"Listen, my job was to keep the peace. If there had been a trial, Jericho's and Nevermore's reputations would have been trashed."

"I think the only reputation you were worried about ruining was your own." Ren fired back.

"I remember Garrett bragging to me that his father had the sheriff in his pocket. One year later, you get elected mayor. Hmm. No doubt with the full support of Ansel Gates. Morticia said her dominating presence on full display.

"I resent your implication."

"What I resent is that you could have prevented Garrett's death if you had done your job when I lodged my complaint about him stalking me. But no. Men like you have no idea what it feels like not to be believed." Morticia says, the mayor looks at them as if he was staring down the barrels of 4 extremely powerful shotguns, and he finally gives in.

"What do you want?" He says.

"All charges against Wednesday and her family dropped, all three of them released immediately with a full apology from the sheriff's office, and if none of my demands are met..." Y/N's shift once more to that of a glowing bloody red as a dark and powerful wind swirls all around him. "It won't matter how powerful you think you are, or how many cops you bring. None of you will survive the storm I'll bring down upon you." Y/N's eyes quickly return back to normal and he smiles happily as the mayor is forced to give in out of fear.

"The family was released and outside, thanks were given and Gomez and Morticia hugged Y/N as if he was their own flesh and blood. Morticia turns to Wednesday.

"I'm sorry you didn't feel you could tell me about your visions. I know we've had our difficulties lately. Navigating the treacherous shoals of our mother-daughter relationship. But I'm always here for you, Wednesday." She says, and Wednesday takes a deep breath

"Sometimes when I touch someone or something, I get these very violent glimpses from the past or future. I don't know how to control it."

"Our psychic ability resides on the spectrum of who we are. Given my disposition, my visions tend to be positive. That makes me a Dove."

"And for someone like me? Who sees the world through a darker lens?"

"You're a Raven. Your visions are more potent, more powerful. But without the proper training, they can lead to madness. If I could help you, I would, Wednesday. But we're not trained by the living. Somebody from our bloodline reaches out from beyond to help us when we're ready."

"Goody has. I've seen her before."

"Be careful, Wednesday. Goody was a witch of great strength, but her vengeance pushed her too far, and even she couldn't save herself." Morticia says, and Wednesday takes her words to heart. They all eventually return to Nevermore just in time for all the families to depart, Y/N waits by the front of the school with Ren waiting for his bus.

"Well, I definitely wasn't expecting all of this when I imagined seeing you again, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't all really fun." Ren says, smiling Y/N happily ruffles his little brother's hair.

"Yeah that's Nevermore for you, always full of surprises, so you ready to head back home." Y/N asks Ren nods

"Yeah I can't wait to tell everyone about how you're doing, and when they find out you're a contract--" Ren goes to finish but Y/N cuts him off "About that Ren, how about you keep the fact that I'm The Contractor just between us." He says and Ren looks at him confused

"Why?" He asks and Y/N sighs "Because you're my little brother and I'll always love you and I'm happy having you know, but don't think for a second that applies to the rest of the Kannagi family so I sure as hell don't want them knowing about something as important as me being The Contractor." He says and Ren looks saddened hearing that.

"...Look, it's not like I hate the family entirely but I don't think I can ever forgive them for what they did to me, nor do I think I ever will I hope you can understand that Ren." He says and Ren nods slowly

"I understand." Ren says before walking up to Y/N and wrapping his arms around him in a big hug which he happily returns "I'm always gonna be your brother Ren, no matter what I promise and you know where to find me now so come by whenever you can, plus I took the liberty of putting myself in your contacts just in case." He says and Ren flashes him their signature pure, contagious, and idiotic smile. "Thanks Y/N" Y/N smiles back and thinks

"You know, even though I may never forgive the family a part of me think I should thank em too." He says and Ren looks at him confused. "Without them doing that, I would have never become The Contractor, Never made a home here at Nevermore and--" He tries to continue but Ren cuts him off this time "Never found her huh?" Ren says chuckling as he teases his brother who simply nods.

"Yup." He says proudly as the bus slowly pulls up and opens for Ren, Y/N looks down at his brother one last time and hugs him tight. "Let me know as soon as you're home ok." Y/N says "You got it." Ren replies hugging him tighter too "Love you, little brother." "Love you too Y/N" they both let go and smile at each other and chuckle a bit before Ren hops on the bus and drives away. Wednesday says her goodbyes to her family as Pugsley hugs her for a few seconds too long.

"Don't push it."

"Well, at least we can't say Parents' Weekend wasn't a nail-biter." Gomez says hugging Wednesday.

"I knew you didn't have what it takes to be a murderer."

"As much as that stings, gracias, my little death trap." He says, and Morticia steps up.

"As I leafed through the pages of this yearbook, I was reminded of all the wonderful times I had here. But they were just that. Mine. You have your own path to blaze. I don't want to be a stranger in your life, darling. If you need me for anything, anything at all, I'm only a crystal ball away."

"Thank you, Mother." Wednesday replies, and Morticia hands her the yearbook before leaving, Wednesday opens it, flipping through the pages and a shocking revelation plays out before her. She storms off to Principal Weems's office but not before finding Y/N and grabbing him by the back of the collar dragging him off with her.

"Wednesday? What's going on, What happened?" He asks but Wednesday stays silent as they storm into Weems's office.

"I knew it. I did witness Rowan getting murdered that night."

"Excuse me?" Weems asks.

"When Rowan appeared the next morning, it was you. When you participated in the talent show, not only did you impersonate Judy Garland, you became her. You're a shape-shifter." Wednesday reveals, which shocks Y/N.

"No way."

"That's a fascinating theory." Weems says, "I'm curious to find out how Sheriff Galpin feels when I tell him." Wednesday replies, and Y/N steps up.

"You've been lying to everyone, to the students, the police, Rowan's family! How could yo-" before he can continue, Weems, shot up from her chair towering over them.

"It does not matter why, because you won't tell a soul Mister Yagami, Miss Addams. And it wouldn't matter much if you did. Rowan's father already knows what happened, and he fully supports my decision not to involve the authorities."

"Why would he agree to that?" Wednesday asked.

"Because Rowan was not in his right mind. His telekinetic abilities were driving him mad and he attempted to murder you twice. His tragic death allowed us to rectify the situation without casting the school or Rowan in an unflattering light."

"You and Mayor Walker are the same, aren't you? Burying bodies to cover your dirty secrets." Y/N snaps back the winds around growing more violent by the second.

"I did what I needed to do to shield this school from controversy and protect its students from harm."

"Tell that to Eugene. How are you protecting him?" Wednesday fires back and Y/N nods more than ready to take Weems on here and now, before feeling an almost burning wind wrap itself around him and whisper in his ear before guiding him towards the window, Weems and Wednesday follow to see the ominous sight. Flames, burning on the Nevermore lawn and the words "Fire Will Rain" etched deeply into the ground, only a sign of the chaos that was to come in the future

Finally done if last chapter was my favorite to write this one was definitely the hardest and least favorite with try to blend in the lore for Y/N as best as I can. I think did pretty alright but if you guys don't like it I understand and I'm really sorry.

Regardless hope you guys enjoyed, love you all and don't forget to take it easy!
