Chapter 2: Chasing the Win-d

"Eyes as blue as the azure sky...that is the symbol of The Contractor"
—————
"How could you miss a dead body?"

Wednesday, the Sherrif and Principal Weems walk through the school to her office.

"Cause it wasn't there. No footprints, no blood, no sign of a struggle. Nothing, nada. My search party looked all night." The Sheriff listed off, as annoyed and angry as he was.

"Well, your search party must have left their seeing-eye dogs at home. I saw that monster kill Rowan right in front of me." Wednesday claims.

"Get a good look at this monster thing?"

"It didn't stick around for a chat."

"Maybe it was one of your classmates." The sheriff said accusingly, which Principal Weems cut in now upset.

"Sheriff, I find that question offensive."

"I don't care, 'cause I got three other dead bodies in the morgue. Hikers just ripped apart in the woods."

"The mayor said those were bear attacks." Weems furrows her brow at the Sheriff who is unfazed by her upset nature.

"Well, the mayor and I disagree on that."

"So you automatically assume a Nevermore student is the murderer, even though there's no evidence a crime was even committed."

"I'm sorry. I forgot, you only teach the good outcasts here, right?" The Sheriff scowls at Weems, they enter her office finally and The sheriff sits across from Weems and her desk, which she promptly sits at as well.

"My guess is Rowan ran away. State troopers have put out an alert, and I've contacted his family, but they haven't heard from him either." Weems explains.

"Dead people are notoriously bad at returning calls." Wednesday's strong demeanor unwaivered as did her belief.

"What were you doing out in the woods with him, Ms. Addams?" The sheriff asked, "I heard a noise in the forest and went to go investigate. That's when I stumbled upon the attack."

"Then what happened?"

"Then I ran into Bianca Barclay, and I told her to go for help. The next thing I remember, I was awaking in my dorm."

"And just to be clear, this monster wasn't a bear or some other wild animal?"

"I've hibernated with grizzlies. I know the difference." Wednesday replies, and Weems was noticeably taken aback before fixing herself.

"Thank you, Sheriff. I think Miss Addams is done now--"

"Actually, I would like to speak to Sheriff Galpin. Alone." Wednesday said, and there was an ominous edge to it.

"I'm not sure I can allow that." Weems begins but the sheriff, notices what Wednesday is trying to do and jumps in."

"I'm sure I could take her to the station and get a formal statement. Yeah, let's go." He begins but Weems quickly stops him.

"Fine. You have five minutes, and everything is off the record. Play nice... or I will call the mayor." Weems leaves the both of them alone to discuss.

"Someone is trying to cover up Rowan's murder. That's the only reason to scrub the crime scene."

"Is that your professional opinion as the daughter of a murderer?"

"My father's twice the man you are, and the only thing he murders is the occasional opera in the shower."

"It's been a long night. I'm tired of your games. I'm not playing games."

"I'm telling the truth. You want to reject my claims but you can't. Why is that? Because you and I both know there's a monster out there. And Rowan is his latest victim." Wednesday said, her cold dark eyes staring holes into the eyes of the sheriff. Suddenly, the deputy of the sheriff steps into the office.

"Sheriff?"

"What?"

"You're gonna want to see this." She says and seemingly risen from the grave, Rowan stood there perfectly fine. Leaving even Wednesday herself confounded and confused.
—————
"Edgar Allan Poe said, "Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see." Clearly Nevermore's most famous alumni picked that up here. No wonder he became a drug-addled madman."

"Help me understand why you claim you witnessed a murder. Was it to gain attention?" Kinbott asks her as they sit across one another in her scheduled therapy session, a bit confused by her actions.

"Why should I bother telling you anything? You've already decided I'm lying. I know what I saw."

"Your life's had a lot of upheaval recently. It's okay to be confused about things."

"Don't try and lure me into one of your psychological traps."

"No one is trying to trap you. I'm here to help you process your emotions. Emotions are a gateway trait. They lead to feelings, which trigger tears. Kimbott tries to appeal to Wednesday's inner feelings but alas they were locked away and pinned down inside of the iron maiden that is her heart.

"I don't do tears."

"Tell me how you're adjusting to school."

"Sartre said, "Hell is other people." He was my first crush."

"Wednesday, Part of the reason your parents sent you to Nevermore is so you could find your people. Become part of a larger community."

"I like being an island. A well-fortified one surrounded by sharks."

"Have you considered your antisocial tendencies might be motivated by fear of rejection?"

"If you were to reject me, I would not be upset." Wednesday said. And Kinbott thought for a moment.

"And there's no one at school in particular who you'd hate or fear to be rejected by?" She asks,  and just for a moment, there was a hint of hesitation by Wednesday as she felt a faint yet gentle breeze brush across her face.

"None at all." She replies quickly and bluntly.

"I see...well you can't get rid of me that easily. And look, you made it through an entire session without trying to escape. I'll take that as a win." Kinbott says, and Wednesday glances at the clock realizing she is right, she quickly leaves after the fact and returns to Nevermore to see her so-called "Friend." Enid and a few other classmates working on a canoe of some kind.

"Ladies, come on! Let's work on those teeth. More scowl. This kitty is taking no prisoners. If Bianca Barclay wins again this year, I will literally scratch my own eyes out!"

"I would pay money to see that." Wednesday says and Enid turns around ecstatic and bounces to her.

"Howdy, roomie! I'm so glad you decided to stay."

"I thought you wanted your single room back. Full disclosure, I don't like living solo and Thing gives a killer neck massage. It's a win-win. So... why the change of heart?"

"I refuse to play the role of a pawn in someone else's corrupt game."

"You mean Rowan?"

"I witnessed his murder, Enid and Y/N saw the body as well."

"It's just, we all saw him this morning. Very much, like, not dead."

"I know. Which leads me to believe I've been losing my mind. It's not nearly as fun as I had anticipated. You're Nevermore's gossip queen. What's Rowan's story?" Wednesday asks, and Enid thinks.

"Other than being a weird loner... Uh...No offense. None taken. Xavier Thorpe's his roommate. If you had a cell phone, you could just text him and ask him. Yoko. Come on! Flare those whiskers. The Poe Cup droops for no one."

"What is the Poe Cup anyway?"

"My entire reason for living right now. Part canoe race, part foot chase, no rules. Each dorm has to pick an Edgar Allan Poe short story for inspiration. You could grab a brush. Ms. Thornhill just ordered pizza. Want to take a stab at being social?" Enid asks, hoping Wednesday accepts her offer.

"...I do like stabbing. The social part, not so much. Besides, it'll cut into my writing time."

"No worries. Just as long as you're lakeside cheering us to victory on race day. Or you can just glare uncomfortably. Whatever works for you."Enid gave a small cheerful smile and Wednesday was being Wednesday. The next day, Weems was working in her office when Wednesday walks in.

"I need to speak with Rowan. I can't find him."

"It won't be possible, I'm afraid. He's been expelled."

"For what?"

"Never you mind. He'll be on the first train out this afternoon. What were you doing out in the woods with him?"

"I told you already. I heard a noise, and I went to investigate." Wednesday said playing innocent.

"That excuse might have placated the sheriff, but you can't fool me. You had a psychic vision, didn't you? I realized you might be having them when we passed by the accident and you knew that poor farmer had broken his neck. Your mother started having visions around your age. They were notoriously unreliable and dangerous. I remember at first, she thought she might be losing her mind. Have you spoken to her about them? Clearly, the person withholding information here is you." Weems said, locking Wednesday in a box of silence.

"May I go now?"

"Not until you've picked your extracurricular activity. We want our students to be well-rounded."

"I'd prefer to remain sharp-edged." Wednesday jabbed back.

"I took the liberty of putting together a list of clubs that have openings." Weems slides her a list of classes and Wednesday quickly noticed one in particular. "Archery - Y/N Yagami"

"How thoughtful." Wednesday replies.

"You need to have picked one by the end of the day. I'll be keeping my eye on you. No doubt you'll find something that tickles your fancy."

"The last person who tickled me lost a finger." Wednesday kept her scowl and left. Her first stop was the Choir club led by Bianca, and she hears them harmonizing. They immediately stop at her arrival.

" Weems said you'd be stopping by. But to be honest, after your performance at the Harvest Festival, drama club might be more your speed." Bianca said, smirking the whole time.

"After I passed out, who did you tell? The sheriff?"

"You think I'd trust normie cops? I went straight to Weems and let her handle it. Anyway, let's get this audition over with. What are you? Alto, soprano or just loco?" She asks obviously insulting her, a few laugh and Wednesday opens her mouth. There was strangely no sound however, at least no sound a human could hear, but one boy's glasses cracked.

"What was that?"

"A note only dogs can hear."

"Ah fuck my ears!" Y/N's screams of anguish echo from wherever he was.

"And one idiot apparently." She replies, and Walks off, leaving them all a bit perplexed.

Wednesday's next and most important stop was Archery, she approached the range as Y/N stood there staring down the target, the bow with its arrow still laying untouched on the hay bale by a basket of apples behind him. Suddenly with swift a wave of his hand, Y/N sent out three massive slashes of wind that completely slice the target into pieces, he then felt a familiar cold yet comforting wind and turns to face Wednesday, smiling as she approached.

"That's an interesting little parlor trick you have there." She says obviously as a dig but also slightly impressed.

"Yup, good for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, and weddings although for that last one, I charge a little extra." He says jokingly trying to counter her to which she softens slightly.

"So, ever shot a bow and arrow before?" He asks, "Only on live targets." She replies and he smirks.

"I believe it, then by all means care to show me how it's done? Even though my name is on the paper I mostly just do my own target practice here." He says and she slowly walks over picking up the bow and loading the arrow.

"When's the last time you saw Rowan?"

"You mean aside from when he was dead on the ground in front of us and killed by a monster? This morning so either he's a zombie, or the both of us were on something pretty strong when everything went down." Y/N says and thinks for a moment.

"He definitely was acting strange though."

"What do you mean?" Wednesday asked.

"Rowan was always a bit of a loner and I could respect that about him so we always got along alright with one another, saying hi when we passed by each other, having a little conversation here and there but this time he was just, so much more nervous than before to even speak to me." He said and shakes his head...So, you and Tyler what's going on there?" He asks and Wednesday's attitude immediately shifts as she turns to him the arrow pointed directly at his leg.

"He was doing me a favor driving me out of town, nothing more and nothing less." Wednesday replies a bit defensive and Y/N nods trying to hold in a smirk.

"Well bit of advice, be careful around him ok something about that guy just rubs me the wrong way."

"Why? Because he's a normie?"

"No, I couldn't care less if he was a normie, an outcast, or anything in between. It's his wind on the surface it feels fine, but underneath it's dark and...toxic almost like it's trying to build up and seep its way through the cracks. And the music it makes, like radio static with faint traces of a song breaking through at points and not a pleasant one at that. Also, ya know his dad hates you and your family can't forget about that." Y/N says, he reaches into a small basket to eat an apple. Wednesday takes it, aims, and fires, hitting the apple and a bullseye. Y/N was both a bit shocked and completely captivated by her, his casual breaking apart at the seams.

"That was...incredible."

"That was just a demonstration, I'm not here to impress." She says and begins to walk off, Y/N walks after her, regaining his composer.

"It's a bit too late for that, you've done nothing but impress me since the moment we met." He says and she stops for a moment

"Out of pure curiosity, I feel like I must ask, my wind describe it." She asks still facing away from him and Y/N begins to think before closing his eyes and focusing on the winds around her. "Well...it's often calm, quiet, and cold, and yet sometimes it becomes so violent and fierce like that of a raging storm but once it settles it's as pleasant as a winter's breeze, the kind you enjoy so much you find yourself lost in it. And the music it makes as powerful and elegant as the song from your cello." He finishes confidently and wholeheartedly before opening his eyes and smiling at her unable to see the small ounces of color that had crept their way onto her normally pale face.

"...I see well, it is about time I get going, I'm busy having to deal with this endless gauntlet of torture Weems is putting me through." She begins to walk again and he stops.

"Well you're in luck then I think I know just the place and the club to keep you out of her radar." He says and she stops walking. "The perfect way to keep Weems off your back and give you enough time to do what you gotta do." He says, she turns around and walks over to him calmly, she stops a foot away and Y/N couldn't help but take in just how beautiful she is.

"..Wow." He said, just gazing at her face, before feeling a hard weight on his foot snapping him out of it. "Uh, Wednesday your foot..." " What about my foot?" She asks staring at him deadpan. "Nothing don't worry about it." He says and she nods still pressing her foot down onto his "Good, now what exactly did you have in mind."

"Right, well you see most Clubs are located on the school grounds, but there is one that's out into the greenery. A perfect place to hide out." He says which interests Wednesday immediately.

"Show me."
—————
Y/N and Wednesday walk through a small forest towards the greenery and find the housing of the beekeeping club. Y/N leans over slightly to Wednesday and whispers.

"Bit of a heads up, Eugene is a bit on the weirder side when it comes to outcasts but he's good people." He said and Wednesday turns her head towards him. " Just try not to kill him or anything, or his bees he'd probably sacrifice himself for them if it came down to it." He says asking.

"I make no promises."

"Good enough for me." He said and taps on the door. "Eugene you in there bud, it's me Y/N!" He steps back as the door opens to a short, slightly pudgy boy with glasses.

"Are you interested in the ancient art of beekeeping? Eugene. Eugene Ottinger. Founder and president of the Nevermore Hummers. He says offering a handshake which Wednesday accepts.

"Wednesday. Wednesday Addams. Am I late or is it only you? She asks and Eugene sadly shakes his head

"The hive life isn't for everyone." Eugene said and Y/N chuckles.

"Told you this place would work." Y/N said to Wednesday.

"Most kids are afraid of venomous insects. Are you willing to feel the sting?" Eugene asked, and a very small smile creeps onto Wednesday's face much to Y/N's pleasant surprise.

"Welp I think my job here is done. Eugene thanks again for helping me out man, I owe you one." He says and Eugene smiles

"Of course Y/N, anything for a friend!" He says and Y/N nods taking his leave, Wednesday then quickly walks into the rickety old shack and gets changed, exiting the room in her own Bee Keeping uniform.

"Bees have been producing honey in the same way for 150 million years. They're nature's perfect community. All working together to achieve a common goal. Fun fact, it's also one of the few ecosystems in which females dominate. From the queen bee to her workers. There's no patriarchy in the hive! He says explaining to her, but by the time he turned around to face her Wednesday was already gone. Y/N continues to walk off before a powerful wind came roaring in wrapping all around him as it whispered in his ears and guided him toward the greater woods.

"Alright, I'm on it." He says as a massive wave of wind gathers underneath him and he takes off into the woods the winds giving him a burst of speed until the sound of a bark catches his attention. He freezes for a moment as his head darts all around, sensing the flow of the air from which it came from before ducking behind a tree as he spots not only the dog but the sheriff walking alongside him.

"Well, what do we have here." He says and slowly begins to follow, keeping a good enough distance to avoid any scent being picked up by the hound. His heavy footstep crack leaves and branches, but uses the wind the nullify the sound. Getting closer, he stops as he feels a familiar pleasant breeze close by, and heads towards Wednesday. Apparently also following the sheriff but was sneaking too close for comfort before the hound could catch her scent, Y/N snatches Wednesday from behind a tree, and she tenses up almost instantly, his hand covering her mouth and slightly around her stomach. As the Sheriff passes, he lets her go, and she quickly moves away and turns to Y/N.

"Sorry. didn't want the dog to pick up on your scent. If he finds us here we're screwed." He says.

"Thanks." Wednesday said, as much as she hated being grabbed and held, she despised it a little less with Y/N doing it. "How'd you throw them off?"

"I shifted the winds around us, shifting winds means a shifting scent to fade into." He says slightly proud of himself

"I assume he didn't bring the bloodhound to play fetch." Wednesday said.

"Not unless he's fetching for bodies, What are you doing out here anyways?" Y/N asked

"I came here to find something that can prove Rowan was murdered and that I haven't lost my mind. Yet." Wednesday said, Y/N looks more serious now. "Then let's go get you some proof." He says filled with conviction. Wednesday nods and peers past him and notices something on the ground in the distance. Y/N walks over and kneels to see Wednesday picking it up.

"Those are Rowan's." Y/N says, suddenly Wednesday's head snaps up, stiffening like a corpse. She was frozen, not moving. Y/N looks over, as he fills with worry.

"Wednesday? Wednesday?!" He yells and gently holds onto her checking her for something wrong. She snaps out of it and looks at him seeing the concern on his face and the worry in his eyes.

"You alright, still with me?" He said, shaking her gently to not hurt her. Wednesday simply stares at him before realizing she's being held and instantly comes back to herself, glaring at him

"Let.Me.Go.Now." She said with the most terrifying whisper he had ever heard, and he does before sighing in relief

"Thank god you're alright, had me scared there for a second." He said, and Wednesday and Y/N stand up.

"I know where we need to go next." She said, and Wednesday and Y/N continue the investigation inside the school's library. Thing was searching the bookshelves for Wednesday and Y/N

"The cover was darker. More like a day-old contusion. Keep looking." Wednesday said while Y/N used his wind to spin a discarded book in his hand.

"So, you mind telling me what exactly it is we're looking for?" He said

"A book Rowan had, it has some connection to all of this somehow, I just need to figure out what." She explains, Y/N yawns.

"You do realize the guy was a massive book worm right? Plus how do we even know it's in here. It might just still be in his and Xavier's room we need to find a way t--" He starts but they hear footsteps, they quickly get Thing out of sight and Y/N and Wednesday were just standing there with Y/N pretending to read the book upsidedown. Thornhill sees the both of them and smiles.

"I don't usually find students in here looking for or reading actual books. Most just sneak in to make out." She says and both Y/N and Wednesday take a step apart.

"That's not what's happening here." They both said in perfect sync before glancing at one another and then back to Thornhill.

"I accidentally walked in on two vampires fanging." Wednesday tells her

"I think I need Holy Water for my eyes after seeing that." Y/N says with a shiver down his spine

"Is there something I can help you two find?" Thornhill asks the both of them and Wednesday walks up to her with a ripped-out page. "Have you seen this before?" She says showing it to her. "It's a watermark from a book I'm looking for."

"I think it's the symbol to an old student society. Um...The Nightshades."

"Like the deadly flower. Color me intrigued."

"I was told they disbanded years ago."

"Why? Y/N asks

"Sorry I don't know. I was very impressed with your answers in class today."

"My mother is a carnivorous plant aficionado. I assume I get my red thumb from her."

"Are you and your mother close?" Thornhill asks and there's a hint of hesitation to Wednesday's response, Y/N immediately realizes that's a button not to be pushed.

"Like two inmates sentenced to life on the same cell block."

"I know it can't be easy... showing up mid-semester. I've been here a year and a half, and I still feel like an outsider."

"Because you're the only normie on the staff? Y/N told me." She says. "I don't have any problems with normies, so you're alright in my book Mrs. Thornhill." He said trying his best to make her feel better, she just gives him a slight smile as he finally turns his book over the right way.

"To tell you the truth, I've never really fit in anywhere. Too odd for the normies, not odd enough for the outcasts. I thought Nevermore would be different, but there's still a handful of teachers who will barely acknowledge me." She says

"I act as if I don't care if people dislike me. Deep down... I secretly enjoy it." Wednesday said, and both Thornhill and Y/N laugh

"Never lose that, Wednesday."

"Lose what?" The ability to not let others define you. It's a gift. The most interesting plants grow in the shade. And if you ever need anyone to talk to, the door to the conservatory is always open. The same goes for you as well Mister Yagami." She says before leaving.
—————
Night falls once again on Nevermore and for once Y/N is actually in his dorm room lying on his bed when he hears a knock at the door. He goes to open it and sees Thing holding up a note from Wednesday to him. Y/N picks up the note and read it, telling him to meet her at Xavier's room. Y/N quickly follow the note's instructions and picks Thing up planting him on his shoulder as they both go to Xavier's room sneaking inside undetected"

A short while passes until Xavier opens his door and walks into the bathroom and the three of them walk out of their respective hiding spots.

"That purple book has got to be around here somewhere. Start investigating." She says to the both of them as they all begin their search. Thing then looks through the shelves for the book while Wednesday looks through Xavier's sketchbook for any possible leads only to stumble upon a drawing of herself. Y/N quickly decides to look underneath Rowan's bed and finds that one of the floorboards is seemingly out of place, he slowly lifts it to find an owl-esque with purple cloth around it.

"I think I got something." Y/N whispers to Wednesday before handing her the mask.

"Rowan's full of surprises." She says looking at the mask. They hear the sound of the water stopping and the door slowly beginning to open and in an instant Y/N grabbed onto Wednesday and Thing right as Xavier enters...to a completely empty room before there is a knock at the door. Xavier quickly goes to open it revealing Bianca on the other side.

"You're not supposed to be up here." Xavier said.

"Good to see you too." Bianca said obviously hurt

"How'd you get past the Housemaster? Use your siren powers?"

"Not while wearing this." Bianca shows her charmed necklace. "Would it kill you to not think the worst of me for once?"

"What do you want, Bianca?"

"To see how you're doing. I'm sorry about Rowan. I know you guys used to be close."

"Since when did you give a damn about Rowan?"

"You were the one afraid he'd do something to Wednesday. Isn't that why you've been following her like an eager-eyed puppy? Or is there something more? Seriously, what do you see in her?You have a thing for tragic goth girls with funeral-parlor fashion sense?"

"Maybe it's because she hasn't tried to manipulate me."

"I make one mistake, and you can't forgive me. She treats you like crap, you can't get enough. Why are you fixated on Wednesday? Because she thinks she's better than everyone else. I can't wait to crush Ophelia Hall tomorrow and watch her werewolf roommate crumble. It's gonna be a Poe Cup finale to remember."

"I hate to think what you've got planned."

"My game's already started. I like to win. Is that so wrong?"

"And you wonder why I broke up with you."

"You used to love my killer instinct. We were good together, Xavier." She said, reminiscing.

"Were we? Is that just how you wanted me to feel?" Xavier jabbed, his words laced with resentment and anger.

"Trust me, Wednesday Addams is not the girl of your dreams. She's the stuff of your nightmares." Bianca says, and leaves.

From the outside of the window Y/N hovered holding Wednesday in his arm with Thing on his shoulder, the three of them having heard everything.

"Got everything we needed?" He whispers and Wednesday looks at him "Yes." She said before immediately tightening her grip on him slowly squeezing the air out of him. "But I don't recall asking for or needing your help out of that situation." She said angrily as she squeezed harder and harder Y/N's face turning bluer by the second. "Look It was a judgment call and I made it, now can you loosen up before I drop you!" He implored a bit of seriousness in his threat and after a few moments ,more of watching him struggle Wednesday finally loosened her grip and Y/N took a deep breath.

"Phew, look sorry about that I know you don't like--" He tried to finish but she quickly cuts him off "If you every take me into your arms again with out say again, I.will.end.you. She said the last four words ringing in his ears over and over again before giving her his pure and idiotic smile. "Sure you got it, so then Ms. Addams shall we take our leave for tonight?" He asks and she simply glared at him before rolling her eyes. "We shall." and with that they took off.

The both of them eventually land on the balcony and creep into her dorm room to Enid, crying on her bed. Y/N's attitude immediately shifted

"Enid, what's wrong?!" He asks, she turns to notice the two of them entering through the window together.

"I'm literally having a heart attack right now. Yoko's in the infirmary!" she said panicked through tears and Y/N comforts her with a side hug.

"What happened?"

"Garlic bread incident at dinner. She had a major allergic reaction. She's out of the Poe Cup. I don't have a co-pilot. She said sadly and Y/N rubbed her back gently to comfort her.

"It's gonna be alright Enid."

"It wasn't an accident. Bianca's behind it." Wednesday said and Y/N nods, which catches the interest of Enid.

"How do you guys know?" Enid asks.

"Doesn't matter. We are going to take her down tomorrow." They both said in perfect sync and full of conviction seriousness burning in their eyes

"Wait. You're joining the Black Cats? You're willing to do that? For me? Enid said, and Wednesday replies coldly.

"I want to humiliate Bianca so badly that the bitter taste of defeat burns in her throat."

"Yeah, but mostly you're doing it because we're friends, right?" Enid asks, and Y/N puts his hand on Enid's shoulder.

"Yes, because we're friends, which is exactly why it's gonna be all the more fun watching those bastards get what's coming to them for messing with you, I'm gonna enjoy this." He says as a dark wind swirls around him and he laughs maniacally.

"Tell me how she keeps winning."

"It's a real brain cramp. The past two years, no other boat has made it across and back without sinking."

"Sounds like sabotage." Wednesday said. "There are no rules in the Poe Cup, and she is a siren, which makes her master of the water. Enid admits, and Y/N continues to smile wickedly "Who cares, we'll still kick her ass even at her own game." Y/N said. The next day quickly came and Wednesday walks past Bianca to Y/N and Enid waiting.

"We're all set." Enid says.

"Good. Thing's in position." Wednesday glares at Bianca

"Wanna tell me what you two were up to?" Enid says to Y/N and Wednesday

"And spoil the surprise?" Y/N smirks as he turns to them.

"Speaking of surprises, your costume's in the tent." Enid says to Wednesday, which confuses her.

"Costume?" Wednesday slowly exits the tent in her tight-fitting black cat costume, with ears to boot and a mixture of pure rage and embarrassment on her face, Enid excitedly bounces over to her while Y/N remained completely silent hints of red spreading across his cheek as he takes in how cute she looks.

"OMG, you look purr-fect! Only thing, where are your whiskers?" Enid asks in her own costume.

"Ask again, and you'll be down to eight lives." Wednesday scowled back before glancing at Y/N

"You're awfully quiet for once Yagami, what do I really look as idiotic as I feel I do?"

"No, not at all actually..." Y/N's voice slowly faded out his casual persona completely thrown out the window once again much to Wednesday's annoyance, She roughly grabbed the boy by his collar before yanking him down to her level staring burning daggers into his eye.

"What.Is.it?" She demanded seemingly knocking the embarrassment out of not only herself but Y/N as well as he smiles his idiotic and contagious smile once more "I was just going to say..." In a moment of pure bravery, Y/N plants a soft kiss onto Wednesday's forehead much to hers and Enid's shock "That you look really cute Wednesday, and that look really suits you." He chuckles lightly as he finishes before dropping to the floor as Wednesday quickly headbutts Y/N in the face.

"Ow! the hell did you do that f—" he tries to finish but Wednesday quickly cuts him off "All that build-up and nerves just for more flattery, you disappoint me Y/N" She says before walking away with Enid to their canoe trying to avoid showing the faintest of smiles that had started to form on her face.
—————
I want to welcome you all to the Edgar Allan Poe Cup. This is one of Nevermore's proudest annual traditions, dating back 125 years. Each team must row across to Raven Island, pull a flag from Crackstone's Crypt, and hustle back without sinking or being sunk. The first team to cross the finish line with their flag wins the cup and bragging rights for a year, as well as some special privileges. Let the Poe Cup begin! Weems fires a gun into the air and the teams set off. Y/N quickly vanishes into the winds and flies along the river. He lands on a small nearby dock and watches the boats as they row towards the island, spotting Bianca nod to a siren who jumps into the water.

Soon enough one of the teams pulls up alongside The Black Cats and one of the members pulls a lever causing an axe to swing towards their boat which they all barely managed to duck under. Underwater, the siren that Y/N saw jump in grabs onto the boat with the axes on it, and pushes it into a buoy snapping it in half instantly as the four teammates abandon ship. Wednesday then pulls out spyglass and looks out to see the tail of the siren going back underwater.

"Thing" She says as he scuddles his way up to a lever and pulls it launching a net capturing the siren.

The three remaining boats then make it to the island as Xavier and the Jesters get out of their boats first running towards the crypt followed by Wednesday and the Black Cats before quickly turning to Enid.

"Stay here and make sure Bianca can't sabotage our boat." She says before sprinting off, Enid, however, has an even greater idea as she and Thing then distract and slash into the Jester's boat, they alongside the Gold Bugs eventually take off first however as they wait for Wednesday. She soon makes it back and they take off eventually passing the Jokers as their boat pathetically sinks.

"The final two teams are the Gold Bugs...and the Black Cats!" Weems says from the megaphone. Wednesday looks around for a moment before spotting Y/N to which he smiles in response

"Alright show time!" Y/N closes his eyes and raises his hands into the air before taking a deep breath, as hundreds of small azure blue particles gathered all around him out of thin air

"This is what you bastards get for making my friend cry!"

Y/N's eyes shot open as he a massively powerful blast of wind into the water, splitting it apart like the red sea as it traveled towards Bianca's team before surrounding them as it swirled around rapidly creating a whirlpool trapping them in place. Wednesday and the others quickly pass them and even she couldn't help but smirk at what Y/N had done.

"A draining wind, very clever Y/N" She says and glances back at him to which he shoots her a wink. They reach the school and confidently jam the flag into place securing them the win, cheers erupt from the crowds and Enid grabs Wednesday completely ecstatic.

"OMG, Wednesday, we did it! This is the greatest moment of my entire life. Admit it, you kinda got into the whole school spirit thing." She says, Wednesday looks to the side to see Bianca and her team sadly making their way there.

"You didn't tell me it was a dark, vengeful spirit." Wednesday watches with twisted glee, the festival ends as she and the rest of the Black Cats are awarded. Principal Weems now gives a speech to all the students.

"The first Poe Cup took place in 1897 as a way to not only honor Nevermore's most famous alumni, but to celebrate those values that all outcasts share. Community, perseverance, and determination. And we certainly saw those values on display today. Congratulations to Ophelia Hall! As a former resident, I will be happy to see the cup back on the mantle after all these years. She says and gives Enid the trophy and they celebrate, but Wednesday wasn't one for celebrations and stands alone in the corridor before the statue of Poe with a raven on his arm, she sits down in front of it lets out a jaded sigh. She closes her eyes for a moment before feeling a familar gentle breeze brush across her face and opens them once more to find Y/N sitting beside her.

"Oh, sorry was this seat taken?" He jokes but gets nothing from her. "So, what are you doing sitting here?"

"Hiding. People keep randomly smiling at me, it's unsettling." She says, Y/N chuckled a bit.

"It's called having your moment. You kicked Bianca Barclay's ass. Try to enjoy it, anyways...I wanted to ask if you wanted to...celebrate later or something. Nothing crazy of course and completely private away from everyone, just thought it'd be nice. He said, giving a warm smile.

"Oh, come on, it won't kill you." He said, she continues her stare, but eventually gives in.

"Yes!" He says, comletely un-afraid to show his joy and enthusiasm, to which she simply rolls her eyes as regains his composure.

"Ya know, alot of people might look at you differently after today, hell who knows you might even have some fans." He says and she scoffs

"If that's the case maybe winning wasn't the greates option after all, regardless I'll just have chase them away preferably with an axe in my hands." She says coldly but genuinely to which Y/N cracks a smile. "Well, would it be alright if one of those fans sticks around for a while perhaps maybe an idiotic Contractor." He says and Wednesday glances at him for a moment before closing her eyes once more.

"Just as long as he doesn't annoy me too much." She says and Y/N chuckles "I'm sure he'll try his best." He says and closes his eyes the both of them sitting together in a delightful silence.

"Nevermore continues to be an enigma. A place where the questions far outweigh the answers. But sometimes... the answer is staring you right in the face."

Hours later Y/N and Wednesday stad side by side, at the statue.

"So what is it you wanted to show me?" He asks completely confused "This" Wednesday snaps her fingers twice and immediately the wings of the statue begin to fold the arms pull in, and the statue slowly retracts and shows a flight of stairs. Wednesday heads down and Y/N follows. They enter what seems to be an abandoned library.

"Secret societies. Hidden libraries. My mother staring at me in a judgmental way. These are all things I've come to expect." Wednesday said, before noticing something.

"Y/N." She called, as she approached a wall of books.

"These must be the books Rowan had." She said and he stands next to her.

"Yeah you're right, but what the hell are they doing down here?" He asks as they both look closer. "But the minute I inch towards the truth..."

As she says this, the both of them are bagged and tied up, being dragged away into the darkness of the unkown.

"Luckily, I'm not afraid of the dark."
