Into the Fire Part 3

Once I had tied up my new "cape" and made it out in the open, I realized my hunch was right: we were in an old-school butcher shop, complete with six meat coolers these bastards probably used for other" thieves" like us. But now I think it's more than time to steal more than money.

Deciding to let Fury have some more fun with his playmate, I rocketed towards the cell to the right of Fury. I opened it up, ready to fight, only to see a heavily breathing and bruised Port that had already freed herself with a broken kickboard and a knocked-out opponent in hand.

"Took you long enough," she said as I speechlessly threw her one of the knives.

"Fuck you to Port, search that guy and see if he has a key like this and free the others," I said in a frustrated tone.

"What about Fury?"

"Cross that bridge when it comes; she's busy with a new playmate. Gum and I will have to deal with her if need be but right now, getting away is what's important."

Before Port could follow up with another cheeky response, one of the other doors to the left exploded. I almost wanted to kill myself at the thought of it being Fury, but thankfully or more surprisingly, it was Frag.

Noticing our shared disbelief, Frag decided just to shrug his shoulders in a questioning posture. And frankly, we had no time for a Q and A, so I decided to leave it at that because we were starting to get company. Two men each came at us from both sides in a pincer attack. I threw the two remaining knives to Frag while I got to work in a call to action.

Using his perfect aim, Frag knocked out the men two on his side faster than even I could, hitting them dead on in the face with the hilt of the knives! But I didn't have time to be impressed, but I had more than enough time to fight! Pure desperation fueled my body as I rushed in without hesitation!

My two opponents sprinted with absolute fear on their faces, hungry to put an end to this as quickly as possible with their raised clubs. And when you're afraid, you're sloppy. Before they could even get a shot off, I threw my jacket at them, covering their sight just enough so the guy in front could get a taste of my elbow! I swear I could taste the adrenaline of the next guy, as in fright he tried to swing at my shoulder.

I couldn't dodge the blow, but I could execute a split-second shoulder roll that diverts the aim ever so slightly so I can access my real target: his groin. With that swift kick, my enemy got disoriented. As he clucked his member for all, it's worth it, I was about to finish him off, but the guy from earlier got back up and tackled me to the ground!

One lucky shot to the face had me bleeding from the mouth, but as the man followed it up, I spat out that same blood right in his eyes! Disgust, surprise, and rage took over his face as I took advantage of his surprise, refusing to back down in the slightest! Ruthlessly, I elbowed him in the face and repeatedly slammed his head to the ground until he stopped moving!

With one down, I tried to continue my assault, but once again, my injuries got the better of me, slowing me down just enough to see the earlier man come back with a raised bat. However, before he could cave my skull in, Ricochet came back bulldozing in with the timely save, knocking him out with a single powerful punch. It was so haphazard that Ricochet instantly fell to the ground while clutching his side, clearly still reeling from the earlier fight and sluggish from the cold.

"Does that make us even?" Ricochet said jokingly through pained yet slowed breaths.

"Pull ten more of those, and maybe we'll talk."

"You are a cruel bastard; you know that?"

"Comes with the territory," I said matter of factly while picking him up.

I made a quick headcount realizing Gum had just gotten secured with that. Frozen and powerless but still making her presence known.

"Sheesh, I know I'm cool, but this is ridiculous," she said jokingly.

"Cut the jokes, Gum, and all of you get to running; we've got no idea how long that cell will hold."

My question got answered in the form of a dented metal door that got launched into the wall so hard it dented. A sense of crushing gravity shook the entire building. White smoke escaped ominously out of the locker, sucking out all color in the area, all air from our lungs, and strength in my already ruined bodies.

Slowly each step made that gravity all the more pressing as soon enough, Fury's bestial body loomed over us all. The only small sliver of hope was the damage. I didn't know where her blood began or ended with her enemy's, but it was still clear to see. That combined with the familiar stench of tear gas, I realized that we may have a shot. So I abandoned my little reason and decided to keep it up.

"Ricochet, make sure to take the others and run; I'll join you guys later, but if I don't, this is still completely 100% your fault, and my ghost will haunt your ass," I said in a deadpan tone.

Before he could offer any resistance, I already stood up with drowsy legs and called out my teammate.

"C'mon, you bonafide bestial bitch! We are going on a little field trip!"

With that, I ran for dear life in the opposite direction to my teammates. I swear, at that point, the entire world faded away as every cell in my body got dedicated to the mission at hand. Like a demon, I raced across the seemingly endless corridors, dodging death's door with every half-missed slash.

Yet despite it all, my earlier cold, my drained body, and my injuries, my body never felt more alive. Fear and stress pumped through my body like a jet engine, fueling my dead-on sprint with more torque than I've ever mustered before. I swear I could hear every torn tendon, but I still kept on going until I reached an open area. However, Fury had adapted to the struggle using one of her broad swipes to aim some debris right at my feet by that point.

Except with her strength, the rocks might as well have been shells from an old school shotgun. I didn't bother looking back, but I swear I could feel flakes of flesh splatter on the floor. My momentum got the better of me as my now cut-up feet forced me on a one-way tumble to the floor. Before I could even get realigned, Fury already caught up to me, gearing up for slash that I knew for sure would cut me in half.
