Chapter 11

"Xavier?" I blinked several times as I stared confusingly at the mirror.

"Stop it."

"Stop what." He chuckled and stared at his nails, occasionally at me. His grin only grew bigger.

"You know what I mean, I'm not stable right now."

"Of course you're not, that's why I'm here, now blink."

"W-what?" But I blinked and he just disappeared. I mumbled clearly pissed.

"I need to talk to him." I looked at the ceiling and back down. I sighed as I walked towards the door and twisted the knob. Once I opened the door I met with a certain someone, someone I didn't have the gut to talk to.

"Xavier."

He burst into laughter, but suddenly stopped when he saw my expression hadn't changed at all.

"H-how come you're not laughing?" He slowed down his pacing of breath and looked at me.

"Come on man, I was tying to lighten up he mood, can't you take a jo-" I cut him off.

"No! I can't X! Can't you see, my sanity level right now is nearing the critical state!" I glared at him my eyes locking with his.

"Using nicknames now, aren't we?" Something about that phrase made me snap.

"Shut it!" I snapped and threw my arm at his chest as I pushed him against the wall.

"Now now, no reason to get feisty." He still didn't take that grin off his face.

'I hate this'

I glared at him, I shifted my hand into a fist, but quickly stopped. I lowered my fist and released him. I didn't want to resort to violence so quickly, and I heard Evelyn's footsteps come closer. I quickly sat down on the bed I had rested upon previously. I quickly glanced back at Xavier but he was gone. A few moments later Evelyn burst through the door with some socks and my shoes. She looked a bit annoyed. She bent down and placed the socks on my feet.

"E-Evelyn you don't need to do that!" I stuttered, I'm old enough to do stuff on my own.

"Okay then, but hurry up." She skipped out of the room, like a child would.

I hope that nightmare won't become true.

                                                                                                *

I sat down along side Evelyn in the cafeteria. I looked around seeing lots of people of different types. They all sat in there tables like what high schooler's would do. Muscular people sat in one, to their right were mostly woman with their 'stylish' clothes or 'fashionistas'. To their- well I should just shorten it by saying that I saw hundreds upon hundreds of these so called 'Conduits' and that I am one of them. I looked back up to Evelyn and saw her eyes glisten as she began to drag me to a group of people. One of them looking familiar. Once we arrived at the table I began to inspect all of them. Two of them being teens, probably 16 or 17, and the other a child no older than 12. I guess my Sherlock skills did come in handy.

I looked up at the one with blue hair as he tried to envelope me in a hug. I quickly retracted and formed a knifed hand and thrust him in the stomach. Everybody gave me a weird look as if I were crazy. I regained my structure and stared back at them, as soon as I glared at them they returned to their normal doings. I looked at Evelyn as she quickly helped the guy named 'Seth' get up. He stood up and slowly removed his hand from his stomach and hastily form his hand into a fist. As soon as he threw the punch I jumped back and stood still as he threw more. I quickly dodged them and took hold of one and twisted it slightly. I quickly let go and stood there. My stoic look slowly fading as his face began to heat up, not of anger but of embarrassment. I looked back up and began to apologize, I didn't even know what came over me. He didn't listen and was about to throw yet another punch until Evelyn grasped his wrist.

"Seth!" She murmured loudly. That name! H-how did I know it?

"What are you doing?!" She exclaimed as her grip tightened.

"I. Uh. He jabbed-" He wasn't able to finish because of Evelyn.

"Ethan! What is wrong with you?! I know you don't remember but don't do that!" She let go of Seth and smacked me in the head.

"Oww ow ow!" I raised my hands to my head. I looked back at Seth. Wait why does he sound familiar? God damn this amnesia.

He had a sincere expression and quickly began to talk, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't of had surprised you like that."

I stared straight at his eyes, "May I ask, who are you?" I tipped my head to the side. He was startled and jumped back.

"It's me Ethan, what are you talking about! We were best friends until you moved to L.A."

I shook my head

"You really don't remember?" I shook my head once more. I turned around and saw Xavier chuckling.

"Sup guys." He waved his hand as he walked towards the table.

"Excuse me." I said as I turned on my heel.

I began walking the opposite direction and left. I didn't want to talk to him, not now anyways. I regret doing this, I'm leaving my sister with a guy I don't know and another I hate. I wasn't even 5 feet away from them when I got pulled back into the group. I looked back and saw her grasp my shirt. Her eyes glistening. She gave me a small smile and turned me to look at the group. She hesitantly took out a small ,white, medical eye patch. I gasped as she put it on my face. I stood there in shock as a flashback appeared out of nowhere.

                                                                                         *

"Now Ethan, this won't hurt at all." A middle aged man had light incisions on his face and wore a white lab coat. His hands became visible as they held a gas mask. He slowly slid it on my face, little by little, taking his sweet time. I began to tense up and yell as the mask inched closer.

My voice was of a 7 year-old's, "No, STOP IT! NO I DON'T WANT TO!"

I kicked what I could, but found I couldn't. I was restrained by table belts. I shook my head hard and saw bits of the room. They held many machinery, including heart monitors like in a hospital. I saw a journal at the edge of a table next to me. But having such a small vocabulary span I only read a few words, 'Hybrids... John Win...' I was stopped by a rough grasp at my jaw.

"Don't you want to be with your little brother and friend?!" He cackled and threw my head back against the table. He placed the mask on me and I refused to breath, but of course I had to give in. I slowly began to drift off but heard another male's voice. But his voice was different. It was a cop's.

"Open up now!" he nearly knocked off the door.

"Soon, you'll be like your brother... and especially my daughter." He laughed even more.

"Soon you'll be a freak... a Hybrid..." He hissed the last two words. I slowly casted myself into a deep sleep as he jumped down a manhole into darkness. I only saw a man and ,assuming, my mother and father.

"Ethan!"

                                                                                             *

I snapped out of it and soon smacked it out of her hand.

"S-stop it John." I whispered. Evelyn went and picked up the patch. She got it to my eye level and thrust it towards my face.

"What's wrong Ethan?" She looked confused and slowly put it on my right eye. This time I let her put it on me but I was still traumatized. I gulped and looked down afterwards.

"It was another...vision... actually a flashback about a piece of my childhood." I sighed and pointed at the eye patch.

"It was an incident about John, and something about hybrids too." I stared at Evelyn's blue eyes, they were full of shock and fear.

"H-how do you remember that ?"

"You know about that?" I asked her.

"Yes. I was only 10, and you were 7. You went missing for a few months and we had found you in his lab. After we had to take you in for therapy from shock and abuse. But I guess you forgot about it half way through it."

"How come you never told me?" I asked her and pointed at my eye patch.

She grabbed me by the shoulders and pushed me down on a seat.

I quickly glanced at her face and saw that it showed an expression of guilt and pity, "We're getting off topic."

I tried to speak but the speaker spoke instead, "Good morning conduits of Poltrey, today we will have our first training session. And possibly a fight. But of course we will have our first semi-annual 'Run of Freedom' in a few weeks or possibly days."

The speaker got cut short afterwards and instead a familiar voice spoke instead, "We have our first team of conduits to be released in the 'Run of Freedom' they will be announced in the evening."

I gulped, I knew this wasn't going to be good.
