Chapter 10
Beep. Beep. Beep.
An annoying beep filled the room. But what is it? Where's it coming from? Everything's white. I can't see anything. Frame by frame, objects started to appear. The setting was actually a hospital room. Slowly, a wooden desk with various accessories appeared, like a vase, medications, books, and a bracelet. After the desk, came a chair and window. I looked outside the window, it was all peaceful and quiet, I turned my head to the previous scene. I looked at the chair as another object appeared. This time it wasn't an it, but a who. The black figure started forming itself and grew color. A few seconds later I was able to see who it was. It's me. I sat in the chair, head in my hands. The scene still wasn't complete. A bed stood in the middle along with a heart monitor as a bodily figure grew in between the sheets. It took a while until the form finished. It's,
"Evelyn, I'm so sorry." He said. He gently placed his hand on hers. He gripped her hand harder as if he would never see her again. Would he? I mean I . I looked back at Evelyn, she looked so peaceful as she slept. But what on earth is happening?! I snapped my head towards a doorframe that had just appeared. A voice erupted as another figure stood at the doorway. His red hair and eyes gave me a clue to who he was,
"Xavier." I exhaled
"Ethan."
I or he, didn't answer, he sat just there, his head hung low. I wanted to cry, or yell, or move something but I was only allowed to move my head. But why? Why is this happening?
"Leave me alone Xavier." He said.
"She's my sister too you know."
Ethan sighed.
Xavier spoke again, " You know she won't make it right?"
"Shut up X." Ethan huffed angrily.
"Using nicknames now, are we."
"I'm too angry to say your name."
"You know she's been like this for-" Xavier got cut off by the heart monitor, her heartbeat started to get weaker.
Ethan spoke again, "If it weren't for that damned traitor!"
He began to calm down.
"She'll be the last one won't she?"
"No, she won't." Xavier replied.
"Yes she will Xavier! I'll have nobody else on my side to fight that son of a bitch! And she's the last one here in the U.S or 'Poltrey ', she'll be the last human here." He said as he stood up.
"You're right, she will be the last human here, but, " Xavier walked towards Ethan, extending his arms.
"You- you have me." He finished his sentence as he engulfed Ethan in a hug .
They stood there quietly as Ethan finally excepted the hug.
He gripped the back of Xavier's shirt, "Thank you." He mumbled. They pulled back as they heard an all too hateful sound. The sound that approves one's depart of this world.
"No." Ethan gripped the shirt tighter, so did Xavier. He began to hiccup as the sobs were acquainted once again. He muffled the cries into Xavier' shirt once more.
"NO!, SHE CAN'T BE DEAD!" Ethan unraveled his hands from behind Xavier and began to pound at his chest. His shouts became more distant as the scene became dark.
"She can't, please, just tell me this is all just a dream." He fell to the ground along side Xavier. His firm hold stayed along with him.
I chuckled to myself, Xavier would exactly act like that, but it quickly faded. What if this is real? If this was actually a future event like what happened at the house.
"No."
"It wouldn't happen."
"Would it?"
I gave a short, muffled, cry. I looked at the remaining objects in the dark, the hospital bed and the window. I stared at the window as the weather drastically changed from a happy, clear sky to a rainy, dark, and depressant one. I stared at the bed once more as her fragile and small frame laid there. Her hazel brown hair was sprawled throughout the pillow and sheets. Her pale, white skin shined a bit for a mere second. Her arms were at the side of her chest, the sheets only covered from her waist down. I saw as how she wore a hospital gown and not the attire from before. What happened? What happened for her to die like this, right now. She didn't have any wound, scratches, marks nothing. But upon inspection, her hand held initials.
'W.A'
Who's that?
The scene began to get consumed by darkness as a voice boomed through it. A female's voice actually.
"Ethan, wake up, it's breakfast time." A slight shake awoke me.
I slowly open my eyes, but a bright light struck them. I slowly start to adjust to such brightness. I looked to my left as a cheerful Evelyn sat there.
"Morning sleepy head!" She said as she ruffled my hair. The sun hit her face at a perfect angle and made her crystal blue eyes shine. I quickly jumped at her and gave her a hug.
"Oh thank god!" I sighed in relief.
"W-were you able to gain your memories?" I shook my head.
She hung her head low, but quickly regained her bubbly self.
"The bathroom is right there," She pointed to a door to the right, "Clean up, we have to head off to the cafeteria in a few minutes." She smiled and got up, and headed off to the opposite direction, towards, maybe, another room. I quickly released a smile that I was not aware off. I never liked being alone. I sighed and got up from the bed as I headed towards the bathroom. I looked around and found out it was a hospital room. I despise hospital rooms. I removed the cover off my body. My bare feet touched the cold, tile floor. I gently placed my hand on the door knob, jiggling it a bit, for it to open. Once inside I closed the door and slid down it. My bottom touching the floor. My hands abruptly started to hold my head as my fingers scurried through my hair as they started to pull on little strands. I began to slowly stop as I regained consciousness.
'I really need to stop this before I become insane.'
I gently placed my palms on the tile floor and slowly started to apply pressure. My legs were crouched underneath me and helped me up. Once I was up my arms draped numb along the side of my body. I walked blindly along the sink. But stopped once my stomach roughly made contact with the edge of sink.
"OOF!" Air escaped through my lips.
I gently placed my palms on the edge of the sink and stepped back. I extended my right arm towards the faucet to open the cold water. I twisted the knob to the right an water began to run down the pipe. I stared at it for awhile but a sudden voice broke me out of my psychotic silence.
"E-Ethan? You alright in there?" It was Evelyn.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry Evelyn." I stuttered out.
"Okay, but please hurry they're waiting for us."
"Okay." I answered bluntly.
I turned back to the faucet, the water still running. I shaped my hands into a scoop and collected some water. I slowly lowered my head and threw the water on my face. Once I finished I looked at my self once more in the mirror but it wasn't my reflection. It was,
"Xavier?"
