•Chapter Six•

"They will see you now"

The lady at the desk says, I swallow all my fears and turn to my grandfather.

"You'll do great! Just stay calm and try to act confident" he squeezes my arm and I smile meekly.

I walk up to the two people standing in front of the door, sticking out my hand to the lady first, "hello, it's nice to meet you, I am Melanie Trypp" she smiles meeting my eyes.

I shake her hand croaking out a polite answer, "I-its nice to meet you, I'm Alice" I catch myself from that little stumble before continuing turning towards the guy who towers over me, he must be the prince?

I look up to meet his grim face, his eyes narrow slightly and I quickly look down away from his intimidating stare. "A-Alice.." I croak nudging my hand closer to his impeccably large one.

His hand envelops mine before he answers, "Leo Bremmles" he shakes it twice before dropping it and walking away back into the room.

"I'm so sorry about him," I gasp slightly because Melanie startles me before I gather myself and send a smile her way, "he just needs to be quite selective with who we pick since his majesty prince Meier will not be joining us today."

A nod in understanding then follow her into the small office and sitting down opposite to where Melanie and Leo sit studying me, because of that I sit a bit straighter and look straight head at both of them showing authority.

Melanie turns and smirks at Leo who just shakes it off before opening the binder sitting in front of them on the coffee table and flipping through some pages then stopping on one than setting his steely glare back on me.

"So we'll just ask you some simple questions to get to know you to see if you'll be right for the job," Melanie says before letting Leo continue with what he was going to say.

"So your first language is English?" Leo asks, looking back up from the page. That's when I notice they've been speaking to me in English this whole time. They must have known I spoke English before they met me... that's odd.

"Uh, yes English is my first language since I'm from America, but I do know some German" I smile slightly still confused about how they knew I spoke English, I never wrote it on the application...

Melanie jots a few notes down in a notebook, "have you ever worked as an assistant before or clerk?" She asks.

I shake my head, "No never..." I trail off then look down at my hands before continuing, "this is my first job" I look back up expecting them to both look astounded that I've never had a job before but when I do I am surprised to see that they look complacent, exactly like before no surprise at least none showed on their faces. I look back down and frown slightly I thought they would look at least slightly surprised...

The interview continues like this for a while until out of nowhere without even looking down at a phone or watch or anything Leo blurts out that the interview is over because he needs to take care of an issue.

They told me that they'd be in touch then I thanked them both and shuffled out of the room with them following swiftly behind me and then walking off somewhere quickly.

I walk to my grandpa and sit beside him flustered, "wow that was quick, how'd it go?" He asks, turning to me and leaning his elbows on his knees leaning in close to me.

"Um, I think it went well, the interview ended abruptly though. They had to be somewhere" I explained to him and he nodded.

"Let's go home then" he gets up and thanks to the lady sitting behind the desk who smiles at him then turns to me with a knowing smile on her face.

"I'll hope to see you later dear"

I return a smile then bolt out of the castle, what a weird interview are all of them like that?

The next few days go by in a blur without any messages from the castle and I grow more and more worried that they would never answer.

I pull at my hair once again then click to open my email, I stare at my computer screen in disbelief, You Have Been Accepted In the Position As Prince Meir's Assistant.

I kept re-reading that line, the letter went on saying how all the information about accommodations and working requirements would be sent in an attachment. Then it ended with a quick we can't wait to work with you.

I could feel my heart beating in my head the pulse slowing down as all the information processed, I had my first job for a prince!

"Grandpa!" I shout racing down the stairs into the living room where my grandpa is sitting on the couch watching a soap opera.

"Yas?" He asks.

I smile biting the inside of my lip trying to contain my excitement, "I got the job..." I smile looking back up.

"Ahaha! I knew you would," he practically jumps up pulling me by the shoulders into him, "I'm so proud"

I thank him before returning upstairs, I plop back down onto my bed and pull my laptop closer to me, I open google and type into the search bar.

Several blogs and articles pop up one, in particular, catching my attention, 'The Devil' it read, I was shocked, to be honest, I was shocked that a prince would be called the devil.

My eyes scan through the several lines in the article, this girl had worked as his assistant and she instantly felt a weird vibe from him then later said he was the human version of the devil without the horns and a tail. He was cold and evil not the kind of boss you would want, 'Very demanding and rude'.

I click out of that page then read through a couple other's all of them saying close to the same thing, rude, mean, evil, disrespectful... heartless.

I slammed my laptop shut and shoved it onto the floor 'accidentally'. My mind swirled with confusion and self-pity.

I had just signed away my life to the devil on a silver platter and I couldn't be more scared.

We'll probably be meeting Xander either next chapter or the one after that, I haven't decided yet but it will be soon, we're almost there guys!
