6. Knowledge

He was running, but he didn't know what he was running from, he just knew it was danger. An older man held him running. He looked very tired and deep in thought. Suddenly they ran on a long, wide path on which a plane stood. The old man said something to him, and he didn't quite understand what he was saying, but he knew what he was thinking. They ran to the plane, which began to take off slowly. The old man opened the door and threw him on the plane. He reached out to help the old man and screamed. Instead of grabbing his hand, the man handed over the pouch, and at the last moment before he could do anything, the door closed. He looked out the window and saw the old man standing on the road with his hands together. Suddenly a sharp blow was heard and his gaze began to blur. He slammed the door with the force of sadness and anger. After a while, he just felt tired, and just opened one of the boxes where he hid and cried softly.

----------------------------

It's after seven o'clock in the morning, and Clemont decided he could make breakfast to everyone when the professor was nice to let them sleep in the lab. He was already preparing pancakes when he noticed that some of the berries he had prepared had disappeared. He stared for a moment where they had disappeared.

"If you are looking for berries, they are or rather were under the table."

The blond boy thought he might jump out of his skin when suddenly a male voice was heard in the kitchen. Within a second, he turned and saw Ash in the door, who was not yet in his normal clothes, but was already wearing shorts ,short shirt and sneakers. Clemont looked for Pikachu, who wasn't next to Ash.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." said the Kantonian and came more into the kitchen.

"What did you mean by are or rather were?" Clemont asked, confused.

Instead of answering, Ash pointed under the table. Clemont bent down and saw a green prickly pokemon sitting with his back to him and eating berries. After a moment, Pokemon noticed that he was already alert and nervously laughed and put another berry in his mouth and ran away.

"This pokemon looks like he has a solid appetite." Ash said with a slight laugh. "By the way, do you know what a pokemon it is?"

"That is Chespin. Another starting pokemon." he said, reaching for the rest of the uneaten berries. "Why are you up so early at all? I thought you would rest after yesterday."

"I woke up early, so I went for a run."

"Nothing says to you, 'Don't strain your body, your skin has yet to recover?'"

"It's was just a scratch."

"You have a scratch when you stumble. Not when a huge pokemon hurts you."

"Jeez, you are acting like my mother when I explained her rescue of Teddiursa."

"So you should pray that no Kalos televisions are broadcasting to Kanto. And what do you mean, saving Teddiursa?" Clemont said, deciding to pass Ash the toast.

"That's one of the stories I would rather not tell you now. And yes, I'm just praying Mom won't hear about the news."

They both laughed and Ash began to enjoy eating, while Clemont began to work out how to solve the missing berries.

Meanwhile in Vaniville Town, Grace woke up and decided to wake Serena earlier, only to find out she wasn't in her room. She went down the stairs, confused, just to notice and realize why Serena was not in her room. Serena was already in the kitchen, preparing breakfast for herself and Fennekin.

"I knew you would want to get ready, but I had no idea you'd get up so soon." she said with a smirk as she leaned against the door.

Serena jumped a little when she heard her mom talking to her. She turned and smiled nervously.

"What are you talking about?"

"Sure ... Have you thought about what you're going to tell him?"

"Aaaaah, how did you know?" Serena shouted, frustrated.

"I just know. Do you even know where to find him?"

"I thought I would go to Lumiose City, and if he wasn't there, I would ask Professor Sycamore. At least Fennekin would see the professor after a long time, right Fennekin?" Srena said looking down to her partner.

"Fen"

"I think it would be better to start in Santalune City." said Grace.

"What do you mean? Do you know where he is going?" Serena asked with a surprised look.

"Maybe yes, maybe no. Maybe I know where he's going or I have thought about where he might go, because if he is a trainer challenging gyms, Santalune city is the nearest town with a gym from Lumiose city." she said.

"I don't believe you, and why would you want to find out anyway? I thought you wouldn't want me to go."

"Because this guy could help you realize what you are doing wrong with Rhyhorn training. Apparently he helped you with a pokemon problem that disappeared after you got lost in the woods. Professor Oak's assistants told me about it." she added the last sentence as a justification, as she knows it.

"So you think it's a good idea for me to go with him?" Serena asked, confused.

"I never said I was holding you and I think I told you the same thing with him. Then you decided to stay, which I still don't understand, but it was your decision and I just started training with you more hoping you would realize what is the problem with riding on Rhyhorn. And back to my original question, what do you plan to tell him? "Grace said, raising an eyebrow.

Serena was taken a back for a moment, but after a while she recovered.

"I don't really know that yet, but I will see what I tell him based on the situation. Most of all, I have to hope I don't miss him in Santalune City. That was the original reason I was standing up so soon. To have a chance to find him in Lumiose City."

"And do you have things ready for the trip?"

"Well..."she said nervously, looking everywhere but at her mother. Grace just grinned.

"Go get ready. I will get the rest ready for you."

"Thanks mom." said Serena and ran up to her room.

----------------------------

"Clemont, are you sure you will be able to handle him?" asked Sycamore handing pokeball to Clemont.

"I think so. If he likes sweets in particular, that will be fine." said Clemont, taking the pokeball, which he immediately shrunk and pulled on his belt.

"If you say so. And you Ash, I noticed you don't have a pokédex, so I'm giving you your own here. It's already signed with your information I found from proffesor Oak. What's new with these pokedex is that you can send messages to other people. But if you want video calls, I recommend buying Holo Caster. " said the professor, handing Ash a new pokedex.

"What is Holo Caster?" Ash asked putting his pokedex in back pocket.

"It's a small device, about the size of a pokédex, and it's possible to send a hologram over it. It works like a phone. You hold the Holo Caster in front of you and talk, the Holo Caster records the sounds and movements you'll make. The other person you are talking to instead of just your voice, they will see your whole body smaller in the form of a hologram. However, if you want a normal size, then place the Holo Caster on the ground and the person you are communicating with will be displayed in human size, "Clemont replied.

"Wow that's awesome. I saw hologram only in laboratories or some pokemon centers." Ash said with stars in his eyes.

"Yes. A lot of work has been done with holograms lately, and Holo Casters has entered new levels of hologram usage." said the professor.

"Great to know and thank you for the pokédex professor. I'd rather go to Santalune city. I think the gym leader could be back by now. Byaah!" Ash shouted as white bubbles hit him in the face as he was leaving, which immediately disintegrated into small pieces. When he looked down from where the bubbles swirled he saw a water starter waiting for him with a pokeball in front of him.

"Fro!" Froakie said, tapping his head on the pokeball, which rolled closer to Ash.

"It's Froakie's pokeball." said the professor with surprise on his face.

Ash thought for a moment as he realized what Bubble frog meant. Then he took a pokeball and turned to the professor.

"Professor, could Froakie come with me?"

"Do you really wanna take him Ash? I mean, I won't be mad at you, but are you sure Froakie will listen you? Why do you think Froakie will change with you?"

"Because I wouldn't take Froakie, if he wouldn't want to, but he chose me. He wants me to take him with me." messy hair boy said looking to Froakie, "Is that true if I'm right?"

"Fro!" shouted Froakie jumping on Ash's shoulder, which was not occupied by Pikachu.

The professor looked surprised, unable to say another word. After a moment, his expression change from suprised to big smile, "Marvelous Ash! I hope you take good care of Froakie. If there are any complications, you know what to do."

"I'm sure they won't, and if they will, we can handle them together, right?" Ash said, looking at both partners, who cried in agreement. "Let's go. Bye professor."

"Bye Ash, good luck with league."

Ash left the lab, but the thing he realized at the gate was that he wasn't going alone. The siblings both followed him, and Ash looked at the siblings in confusion.

"What are your plans?"

The siblings looked at each other and then at Ash. "We wanted to go with you."

"Are you sure? I won't mind, but the point is that what happened yesterday often happens on the road with me. And I'm not talking about situations that don't involve Team Rocket, who by the way are probably on their way back to us or they are already watching us."

"Don't think about it that way, and even if you do, journey with you is full of adventure and cute pokemon for sure." Bonnie said enthusiastically.

Ash stared at his siblings for a moment without a word, but after a moment he smiled, "If you want, I would love to. Traveling with people is great fun."

"Yay!" Bonnie screamed with excitement at the answer.

"Let's go. We may have a chance to reach Santalune city before dark." Clemont said, pointing to the road that led to the edge of town.

Meanwhile, back in Vaniville Town.

Grace had just prepared a food for her daughter and decided to see how her daughter was prepared. When she entered her room, she saw her daughter dressed in a black top, red skirt, and black boots with long black socks. She was choosing between a pink hat with a black ribbon around and a burgundy red cap with a white pompom on top.

When Serena realized that Grace had entered the room, she immediately turned to her mother with both hats.

"Mom, which one would you choose?"

Grace studied the hats for a moment, then pointed to the burgundy red. "This one."

"Okay, this one." Serena said, tossing her red hat on the bed among the others and putting a pink one on her head.

"If you already knew, why did you ask?"

"The one you didn't choose is cuter one, that's why." Serena said with smile.

"Wow." Grace said insultingly. "Do you have everything ready?"

"Yes." Serena said, taking her backpack on her back and walking to the door.

"Are you sure?" Grace said and walked out the door.

"Yes mum." Serena replied annoyed. I don't think I will need a tent, I'm sure I will always find a place to sleep, like a Pokecenter. Serena thought.

"I think if you leave now, you will arrive in Santalune City before he does. I have prepared a food for you on your way." Grace said, taking a small bag and handing it to Serena.

"Thanks Mom, and I will leave right away. I have to keep thinking about what I will tell him when I see him." Will he even remember me? Serena thought with fear in her mind. "Let's go Fennekin."

"Fen!" fox Pokemon cried enthusiastically and jumped into Serene's arms.

"Bye mom!" honey-blond said running out of the house.

"Bye Serena and don't forget to train everytime, when you can!" Grace shouted to her daughter, who disappeared behind horizon. Grace then looked at the tiny robin pokemon, who was looking back at her. "Perhaps this could help her realize what she is doing wrong." she said to Fletchling, who just nodded. It would also be nice if she tried something with the boy. He looked very nice. Grace thought with a slight chuckle.

After a few hours

Ash and Clemont talk about Clemont's hobby of making inventions. Meanwhile, Bonnie goes ahead in front of them and plays with Froakie, Pikachu and Teddiursa, whom Ash released because Teddiursa and Bonnie got relatively close.

"Clemont, how old is Bonnie? I thought she was 10 already." Ash asked.

"She is over ten and a half old. Why do you ask?" he looked at Ash with a curious look.

"Just out of curiosity. I was just thinking about something." he said pleased with the information.

Clemont wanted to ask, but decided to let it be. Froakie, who stopped for a moment, jumped into the air and caught something falling from a tree. After a moment, Ash hurried to Froakie to see what he had caught. It was a small berry.

"You have some great instincts Froakie."

"What did Froakie catch?" Bonnie asked, kneeling beside Froakie "Wow berry. Can I look at it?"

Froakie gave berry to Bonnie, who took it hand looking at it. After

Froakie laid the berry on the ground and wanted to let Bonnie take it in her hand. But before Bonnie could take the berries, the berries struck a faint stream of energy so that the berries flung into Bonnie's face.

"Bonnie, are you ok?" Clemont asked kneeling infront of his sister.

"Yeah I am ok, what was that?"

"It was some weak attack of electric type." Ash said looking around.

"Maybe who use it just wanted this." Bonnie said picking up berry.

"Pika." Pikachu said looking to tall grass. From grass ran out small orange pokemon with red cheeks, similar to Pikachu's, on which where small whiskers. It had also small black ears with white color inside and its body was ended with small black tail.

"What is that?" Ash asked and pulled out a pokédex.

"Dedenne, antenna Pokémon. Dedenne's upper whiskers serve as antennae that can send and receive electrical waves. This allows it to communicate with others of its kind over great distances and sense its surroundings. The simple, lower whiskers are organs that can fire electricity. It absorbs electricity from buildings by plugging its tail into outlets."

"So it sent the electric attack. Dedenne probably wants the berries. It's so cute," Bonnie said with stars in her eyes at the little pokemon. Pikachu stood in front of Dedenne, small streams of electricity flying between them. "What are they doing?" Bonnie asked curiously about both pokemon.

Clemont had already opened his mouth to explain the concept, but before he could, Ash spoke earlier.

"They both communicate with each other using electricity. They send faint, harmless bursts of electricity in the form of waves, through which they pass information." Ash explained, then looked at Clemont." I'm sorry, I know you probably wanted to explain. "

"No problem. I just didn't know you could know that."

"I know something about pokemon. I started traveling with them when I was ten. I've been with pikachu for almost eight years and we know everything about each other. I'm sure Pikachu is now communicating with Dedenne and just trying to calm him down and reassure him, that we are not dangerous. " Ash said, looking at Pikachu and Dedenne, between whom they had just stopped sparking, and Dedenne looked much calmer. Dedenne walked slowly over to Bonnie, who was holding a berry in her hand.

"Thanks, Pikachu." Bonnie said, adjusting her hand so that the berries lay on her palm. "Come on, you don't have to worry."

Dedenne slowly approached Bonnie. Bonnie looked at Dedenne quietly with enthusiasm in her eyes. Dedenne took the berry in his hands and bit into the berry with the stars in his eyes. Bonnie immediately reached out and began stroking Dedenne.

"It's so smooth." Bonnie said enthusiastically.

"Denene." he said in a calm voice, enjoying the stroking.

"Brother, would you catch him for me so I can take care of him? Pretty please?" Bonnie asked with babydoll eyes.

"I don't know Bonnie, are you sure you can take care of him?" said Clemont, unsure of the idea.

"I think it's a good idea for Clemont. At least she will be ready to take care of her own pokemon when she's ten. By the way, like you told me, it won't be an insanely long time." Ash said.

After a moment's thought, Clemont pulled out a pokeball, which Dedenne looked at curiously, and Clemont tried to tap the pokeball on Dedenne's head on the first attempt. Dedenne drew a red beam into the pokeball and shook the pokeball with Clemont's hand three times, and then only a click was heard.

"I caught him." Clemont said in surprise.

"He wants to come with us, because otherwise you wouldn't just catch him like that." Ash said "You can love Bonnie, you will have your starting pokemon Dedenne." Ash said to Bonnie, who looked excited.

"Yupey!" Bonnie shouted jumping up and down "Clemont can you let him out? I want to have him in my bag." Bonnie said taking her bag in hands.

"Sure Bonnie. Dedenne come out." Clemont said and pokeball in his hand opened revealing Dedenne.

"Dedenne will be great to travel with you." Bonnie said enthusiastically, taking Dedenne in her arms and caressing his cheeks with him.

"Dene!" cried with the same opinion and then released a stream of electricity.

"Aaah!" screamed Bonnie, who was hit by electricity discharged from Dedenne.

"Bonnie, are you okay?" Clemont asked his sister, who had fallen on her butt.

"Hahaha, yeah I am. It wasn't as strong as Pikachu before." Bonnie said with a laugh.

"I think you should be careful about this, Bonnie. From the way I watched Dedenne's attack, there's one Nuzzle that Dedenne uses by rubbing his cheeks. That's how you probably got hit." Ash said, pushing the pokedex back into his back pocket.

"I definitely will." Bonnie said, then the growl that came from Dedenne. Bonnie looked at Dedenne, who opened his mouth and pointed a paw at it. "You are still hunger Dedenne?"

"Dene" he said awkwardly with his paw behind head.

"This is Dedenne." Clemont said, pulling out a can of pokemon food. He poured a few granules into his hand and set them for Dedenne.

Dedenne wanted to reach for food, but before he could, a small pokemon flew over Clemont's hand and took a few prepared granules. But instead of the pokemon whirling more, the pokemon fell to the ground and stood back and began to eat pokemon food.

"Hey, it was for Dedenne!" Bonnie shouted at the little pokemon. Pokemon turned to them. It was a small bird pokemon with a red head with a blue body and two large black feathers at the end of the body. He looked very tired and just started eating again. Ash took out again pokédex to get infromation about this new pokemon.

"Fletchling, tiny robin pokemon. It has a friendly nature and a beautiful chirp, but Fletchling is also known to be ferocious in battle, capable of unleashing relentless attacks."

Froakie was angry and wanted to run into Fletchling right away. "Wait, Froakie." Ash said, motioning for him to wait.

"What are you doing, Ash? He took Dedenne's food." Bonnie said protestingly.

But Ash didn't answer, instead taking off his backpack and taking out another can and pouring more food on the floor in front of him. Ash then sat down with hands behind and watched Fletchling. Fletchling looked at Ash uncertainly, but after a while he came to him and began to eat.

"Why are you giving him another meal, Ash?" Clemont asked, confused.

"Because I won't hurt or leave behind a malnourished pokemon malnourished. Keep eating, You look really tired." Ash added to the pokemon, who looked at him in surprise and then continued to eat.

"Ash, how do you know he's malnourished?" Bonnie asked with a questioning look.

"Sometimes it's hard to tell. The moment Fletchling took the food, he tried to fly up, but instead fell to the ground and looked quite tired. Then I noticed that this Fletchling looked different against the introduction of the Pokédex. It's about rather leaner and only tired from flying. " said Ash with one finger running over Fletchling's head, who was startled for a moment, but then continued to eat, and much more this time.

"But why would he be malnourished? There should be enough food here in the woods." Bonnie said with her hands pointing into the woods.

"I don't know. Maybe he's having trouble finding food or some other reason. Whatever it is, I won't leave anyone hungry if I can help." Ash said, standing up when Fletchling finished eating, "Do you have enough?"

"Fletch!" he said happily, pointing to his throat with his wing. Ash caught with his eyes red stripe under it's wings

"Great! Let's go, we've been long and I would like to try challenge the gym today. Good luck Fletchling." Ash said and started walking away from the tiny robin pokemon with the others. After a moment, however, Ash felt something land on his head. When he looked up, he saw Fletchling looking back at him. "Anything else Fletchling?"

Fletchling flew in front of the others, pointing one wing at Froakie and Ash and then at himself. Ash's expression changed from incomprehensible to a smile.

"Are you sure?" Ash asked Fletchling.

"What does Fletchling want?" Bonnie asked, interested in the situation.

"He wants to fight me and Froakie. That's right if I'm not mistaken." Ash said, looking at Fletchling, who nodded, "What do you call Froakie? Our first battle?" said Ash looking at the bubble frog pokemon.

"Fro!" he said eagerly to fight in his voice and pump up with his fist.

"Can we start?" Kantonian asked Fletchling who took off, "Ok Froakie use water pulse!"

Froakie jumped into the air and began to form a blue ball between his arms, then threw toward Fletchling. Fletchling flashed for a moment, then copies appeared. The water attack only hit a fake clone. Then all the clones wrapped themselves in fire and flew straight at Froakie. When Fletchling hit Froakie, clones disappeared and on other side Froakie stand there looking fine.

"Wow, that was flame charge!" Clemont shouted suprised and adjusted his glasses with one hand.

"Yes and double team. Okay Froakie use bubble."

Froakie leaned back then shot a few bubbles flying straight at Fletchling. Fletchling flew through the bubbles and his wings glowed white and began flying straight at Froakie.

"Froakie block it with a pound."

Froakie's hand began to glow white and then one of the wings that was aimed directly at him blocked it with his white hand.

Fletchling is too fast for Froakie to hit with normal attacks. Maybe Frubbles could be used, but willhe avoids them too. Ash thought, thinking about how to hit Fletchling. Use trees and dummy. He suddenly heard a faint voice and came up with the idea of hitting Fletchling.

"Froakie, jump in to the trees."

Froakie obeyed the task and jumped into the trees from branch to branch. Fletchling had to fly higher to make sure he didn't jump on him from above. He heard the rustle of leaves a few times, but no one was there before he could turn in that direction. After a moment, he heard another rustle of leaves, and when he looked in that direction this time, he saw a figure hidden behind a trunk. Fletchling immediately began to pounce on Froakie with a glowing beak. But when he came in contact, he found that it was just a pile of sticky bubbles. Before he could get rid of the sticky bubbles, Froakie jumped out of the tree above him with a water pulse in his hands and threw it directly at Fletchling and exploded. Fletchling fell unconscious from the smoke of the explosion to the ground.

"Go pokeball!" Ash shouted and trew it at tiny robin pokemon. Pokeball hit Fletchling and sucked him in red beam. Pokeball fell on the ground where it shook. One....two....three...and the pokeball then clicked.

"Awesome, I just caught Fletchling!" Ash shouted happy and jumped up with pokeball in hand.

"Nice job Ash." Clemont said taking on his backpack.

"Yeah Ash, also it was awesome that strategy with trees and fake Froakie. How did you come to that?" Bonnie said looking between Ash and Froakie.

"I don't even know. I just had idea of hiding in trees, but the idea of a fake Froakie was Froakie's idea." Ash said looking down on Froakie, who looked was looking back at him.

"Well, you combined it perfectly." Clemont said, pressing his glasses to his face.

"Thanks. And thanks to you, too. Froakie, you fought great." Ash said to Froakie.

"Fro." he said, exhaling wearily.

"Take a good rest." Ash said taking out his pokeball. Pokeball shot red beam at Froakie and sucked him in.

"Now let's go, we stayed here long and it's starting to set." Clemont said looking on route.

"Yeah let's go already!" Ash said impatiently, "I already lost chance to challange gym today so at least I wanna sleep in Pokemon center there."

Group then began again to walk to the city. When they came on top hill, they finally saw small city. But before group could go any further, they heard scream.
