Chapter 4: The Blue Shadow Virus

Naboo was in trouble.

It had been discovered that there was a secret underground lab, run by the Separatists. To help with the problem the Jedi Council had sent Anakin and Obi-Wan along with their padawans.

When Naboo was in sight Grim couldn’t help but go to the viewport. It was such a beautiful planet and it reminded the padawan of her home. Grim smiled a bit at the thought.

Though she could not live in memories of her life before for long as it was time to go to the planet and help. There was very little time for respite in war.

“General Kenobi, Anakin, we’re so glad-” Typho greeted them, once the Jedi had arrived.

“Where’s Senator Amidala?” Anakin asked, before Typho could finish.

Grim shook her head, Anakin was far too attached. “She went to look for the lab,” Typho responded.

“And you let her go?” asked Anakin.

“Senator Padmé can be very hard to stop once she has made up her mind,” Threepio cut in.

“Good point. I know what you mean.”

“This is Peppi Bow,” Typho told them, introducing the pink gungan who was with them. “She was the last person to see them. Padmé sent her here to safety.”

“Theysa looking for the sick-maker,” Peppi informed the Jedi.

“They?” Obi-Wan asked.

“Representative Binks was with her,” Typho explained.

Anakin turned to Ahsoka, “go with the gungan, see if you can find them.”

“You’ve got it, Master,” Ahsoka replied.

“You should go as well, padawan,” Obi-Wan told Grim.

“Alrighty!” replied Grim, maybe a bit too enthusiastic.

Peppi, Grim and Ahsoka left the palace and the gungan led the two Jedi padawans to where she last saw Padmé and Jar Jar. From there they followed they headed in the same direction that the two had gone. Eventually they reached a ship, “this is their ship,” Peppi told them.

“So where are they?” Ahsoka asked. The three got off the creature they were riding. Ahsoka frowned at the ground, “the tracks end here,” she noted.

Just then there was a whirring noise and the ground under Peppi rose. “It’s a scope,” Ahsoka whispered, crouching down so she wouldn’t be spotted, she motioned for Grim to do the same.

“Don’t let it see you,” she instructed the other two.

Grim stopped herself from remarking that she knew that already. The two padawans moved slowly and carefully to keep out of sight while Peppi struggled to keep her balance.

Ahsoka then leaped up and pushed Peppi behind a tree root, and Grim quickly did the same.

The three poked their heads out and watched carefully. The scope went back into the ground not having spotted anything and Grim let out a breath she didn’t know she had been holding.

“Master, are you there?” Grim asked, as she called Obi-Wan.

Before Obi-Wan could reply Anakin asked, “did you find her?”

“Unfortunately no,” Grim replied. “We’re pretty sure she’s inside the lab. The whole thing is wired with pressure sensors. There’s no way to get in without being detected.”

“But we’d be more than happy to-” Ahsoka was going to tell their masters.

“Do not attempt to get inside,” Obi-Wan told the two. The holomap of the lab appeared in front of them from the comm.

“I need the two of you to detonate a bunker bomb at the south end of the facilty,” instructed Obi-Wan. The holomap zoomed in on the section he was talking about. “It should cause a nice distraction to seal off the bomb area while we come in through the hatches.”

The hologram switched to showing Anakin and Obi-Wan.

“You can count on us,” Grim told them.

“Rex and his men will be right behind you,” Anakin told them. “They’ll have your back.”

Night had fallen on the planet.

Grim knew the stakes were high but found that she wasn’t anxious at all. Perhaps it was because she knew everything would be alright. Though it was now time.

Grim and Ahsoka nodded at each other, before Ahsoka pulled out a thermal detonator and used the force to move it to the correct area, keeping it out of view from the scopes. “Now!” said Ahsoka as she let it go and it exploded.  Grim, Ahsoka and Peppi covered their heads as the explosion went off.

Grim found herself smiling at Ahsoka who gave her a smile back.

The three of them noticed the gunships in the sky and stood up. “Meesa come too?” Peppi asked.

Ahsoka grabbed Peppi’s hand, “no,” she told the gungan. “Stay here and make sure no one escapes.” With that the two padawans ran off  in the direction of the gunships.

The clones were already dropping down and Grim and Ahsoka jumped in the hole igniting their lightsabers.

The two padawans deflected the shots of the droids as the clones covered them. Ahsoka and Grim led the attack, running in front of the others and slicing down the droids.

Grim on the left and Ahsoka on the right.

Two destroyers rolled up and activated their shields before starting to fire. “Fall back!” Grim ordered as she and Ahsoka deflected their shots. The two of them kept blocking the blaster fire as they began to fall back. Even so they still continued to struggle against the droids.

“I can’t hold them!” Ahsoka said as she struggled to deflect all the blaster fire.

“Neither can I,” Grim admitted, as she too struggled.

The ceiling above crumbled and crushed the droids, Obi-Wan stood on top of the ruble, his lightsaber ignited. “Need some help?” he asked them as some clones dropped down behind him.

“It seems we are in need of it in this crushing fight,” replied Grim with a smile.

“So good to see you, Master Kenobi,” Ahsoka sighed in relief.

The three of them ran on, with Obi-Wan deactivating his lightsaber. “Things are going well,” he told the two padawans. “The lab is secure, and hopefully Anakin has reached Padmé  by now.” Some more droids found them and Obi-Wan reignited his blade and the three Jedi stood in a defensive position. “I’ll get the bombs,” said Obi-Wan rushing off into the tunnel behind them.

“We’ll keep the droids occupied,” said Grim, as she and Ahsoka had begun to block the blaster fire once more. They kept to their strategy from before.

Grim on the left, Ahsoka on the right, and the clones behind them as they cut down more and more droids.

They continued to run through the tunnels when their commlinks went off. “Ahsoka, Grim,” said Anakin. “We have another situation. Send all the clones to search the facility, we’ve got a miss-” he stopped as the two groups ran into each other.

“Master?” Ahsoka asked.

“We’ve got a missing bomb and a trigger-happy doctor on the loose,” Anakin told them.

“Missing bomb?” asked Padmé. “I saw Dr. Vindi give a little droid a bomb.”

“You guys split up. Find that droid,” Anakin ordered, before rushing off with the clones behind him.

“You heard him. Let’s move,” Ahsoka said, as she and Grim also rushed off with clones behind them as well. Leaving Padmé  and Jar Jar behind, while they searched for the droid.

Grim and Ahsoka were working on their search for the droid with the bomb when they got a call from Padmé. “Ahsoka, Grim, I found the bomb,” she told them.

“Stay there,” said Ahsoka. “We’ll send the bomb squad.”

They reached Padmé  and Jar Jar, and one of the clones cut the wire in the bomb successfully deactivating it. “Deactivated,” he said. “Plenty of time to spare.”

“Plenty of- oooh,” said Jar Jar, fainting. Everyone turned to look at him and Grim had to stop herself from chuckling.

Ahsoka’s commlink went off. “Ahsoka, are you there?” Anakin asked.

“I’m here, Master. The bomb has been deactivated,” she informed him.

“Did you find Vindi?” Grim asked.

“Deactivated as well,” replied Anakin. “Have you seen Padmé?”

“She’s right next to us,” Ahsoka told him. “We’re okay too. Thanks for asking,” she remarked.

Now that the virus had been stopped they just had to clean everything up. Grim was with Ahsoka when suddenly the alarms went off. Apparently one of the droids, more than likely the one Padmé had found, had taken the vial of the virus out of the bomb.

The ground shook violently with an explosion and the alarm went off more with red lights flashing this time. “Virus leak,” Rex stated. “Get to the safe room, come on!” Rex led the way as the group all followed him to the safe room, the virus just at their heels as the doors around them closed.

“There’s the safe room! No chance!” one of the clones shouted.

“Hurry! The doors are closing!” said Rex.

“Don’t worry,” said Ahsoka as she used the force to stop the movement of the doors. “Get inside, Captain,” she ordered. Then Ahsoka turned to Grim, “you too, I got this.” Grim glanced at Ahsoka and nodded before jumping into the safe room.

“Hurry!” Rex and Grim told her, waving Ahsoka, to come into the safe room. She rolled in just in time and the doors closed behind them.

Ahsoka’s commlink beeped. “Ahsoka, what is going on down there?” Anakin asked.

“The droids released the virus,” Ahsoka explained.

“But we managed to seal the lap,” Grim said, going over to Ahsoka.

“And Padmé?” asked Anakin.

“Haven’t heard from her since the bomb,” Ahsoka told him. The comm call ended.

“Probably checking up on his girlfriend,” Grim jokes. Ahsoka jabbed Grim in the ribs. “What?” she asked. “Am I wrong?”

“Not the best of times for jokes,” Ahsoka replied.

“Just trying to lighten the mood.”

“No,no,no,” one of the clones said. “Some of the virus managed to get in here. We didn’t seal the door fast enough,” he explained.

“We may be dead men,” Rex told the padawans. “But we can still stop those droids.”

“Don’t worry,” Ahsoka told the clones. “Master Skywalker will find a cure for this virus. We’re not dead yet.”

“Is anyone out there?” came Padmé’s voice. “Can anyone hear-”

“Senator Amidala,” said Grim. “We’re trapped in the safe room at the end of complex B,” she explained.

“We’ll be right there,” she told her. “Are you contaminated?” she asked.

Two of the clones began coughing, Ahsoka and Grim looked at them with concern. “I’m afraid so,” said Ahsoka.

It didn’t take long for the others to become sickly as well. Grim was already feeling it bad, and had begun to cough as well as even looking sicker. Ahsoka cast Grim a worried glance and called Padmé. “Senator Amidala, where are you?” she asked.

“We’re right outside your safety room,” she replied.

“Can you get the door opened?”

The doors opened and Padmé and Jar Jar entered with hazmat suits on. She ran over to the two padawans, “I’m sorry girls,” she told them.

“Don’t worry about us, Senator,” said Grim, only to end up coughing again. It hurt whenever she coughed. Padmé and Ahsoka both gave Grim a worried look, she replied with a half-hearted smile. “We still have a job to do.”

“There’s not that many droids left,” Padmé informed the group. “We saw some droids heading towards the south entrance.”

“As long as we’re able, we’ll help you destroy those droids,” Ahsoka promised.

Rex handed the senator a blaster and she took it. “You take the north corridor, and we’ll take the south,” she told them.

Grim, Ahsoka, and Rex ran through the north corridor. Rex shot down the droids from behind the two padawans while Grim and Ahsoka deflected the droids’ shots and cut them down.

Grim on the left, Ahsoka on the right.

They all had wished Grim not to fight as the virus continued to make her worse, but she had ignored them. Stubborn as she was, she wasn’t giving up anytime soon, especially not because of a virus of all things. To which Ahsoka had reminded Grim that she wouldn’t be giving up, though she did not listen to her.

The two padawans and Rex reached Padmé and her group. One of the droids was climbing the ladder. Rex and Padmé ran under the hatch and pointed their blasters at it. “Stop!” Rex ordered.

“Don’t open that hatch!” Padmé called.

“Ha! Too late!" The droid replied. It shot its blaster which only ricocheted in the hatch destroying it. The parts of the droid fell to the ground and everybody looked at it.

Grim coughed and then said, “maybe the seps should start making these things with common sense.”

The group continued to destroy the droids in the facility. The two padawans in front.

Grim going on the left and Ahsoka on the right.

The group made lots of progress getting rid of the droids and making sure none of the virus escaped.

The virus continued to worsen in Grim and Ahsoka. Dark blue markings from the virus coated their faces. Grim was worse with the markings having reached her arms. She felt weakened but refused to give up. Even if she was having difficulties fighting now.

Two destroyers rolled up and activated their shields, Grim and Ahsoka nodded at each other, they both leapt up and switched sides destroying the destroyers. They leapt back to where they were before, then turned around and noticed Padmé on the ground with Jar Jar.

“Senator!” Grim and Ahsoka cried in sync. They both rushed over to her.

“Senator, your suit’s been compromised,” a clone trooper informed her. Padmé gasped as she noticed the damage.

“Padmé, I am so sorry,” said Grim.

She took off her helmet, “Don’t blame yourself. These things tend to happen in a war zone.”

Padmé discarded the suit and the group continued to hunt down droids.

Grim stumbled and fell, the virus had weakened her and continued to do so. “Grim,” Ahsoka and Padmé called.

Ahsoka rushed over to Grim and helped her up. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” Grim groaned. She was so weak and tired. She coughed again and Ahsoka gave her another worried look. “I’m fine, I’m going to be okay. Come on we have more droids to end.”

They continued going after droids. Though this time, Ahsoka was helping Grim as she struggled to walk, both in the middle. They rounded a corner and saw some more droids.

“There they are!” said Grim. The two ignited their lightsabers, Grim let go of Ahsoka and the two rushed at the droids, Ahsoka chopping up the one at the bottom of the ladder and Grim pulling down the droid at the top impaling it on her blade. They both groaned and leaned against the ladder for support.

“Ahsoka,” Padmé exclaimed.

“I’m alright,” Ahsoka said.

They had done it. The group headed back to the safe room from the start. Now they just had to contact Master Skywalker and Master Kenobi. “Masters? Can you hear us?” Ahsoka asked.

“We destroyed all the battle droids inside the compound,” Grim told them.

“Naboo is safe from further contamination,” Ahsoka went on. “I repeat, Naboo is safe.”

Grim and Ahsoka coughed, Padmé gave them a worried glance. “Promise me that no one will ever open this bunker,” she said. “Goodbye Anakin, I-” their connection was cut out.

Inside the safe room, Grim, Ahsoka, and Padmé tried to take care of the dying clones. While trying to help one of them Grim passed out. “Grim!” Ahsoka and Padmé called. They ran over to her. Ahsoka caught her before her head reached the ground. She and Padmé shared a concerned look.

Grim woke up in a stretcher carried by medical droids. Disoriented and for a moment forgetting she was not in the universe she used to call home she mumbled a little, “when did technology advance so much?”

Obi-Wan was by her side and had heard her say this. He gave her a small smile and replied quietly, “we’re not on Earth, Grim.”

While Obi-Wan had been teaching her Basic and Grim had been teaching him English in return, she had explained to him many things about her home universe. Including the name of her home world. Along with the fact that technology was not quite as advanced so he understood her comment.

Grim took a moment to process the concept of her being in Star Wars and how she was a Jedi and nearly asked when space travel had been made accessible to everyone. “Oh, right, Star Wars,” she said.

Grim was carried into the ship and Obi-Wan went to check on the others. When the gunship took off Grim looked out the cracks that could be considered windows and watched as Anakin and Obi-Wan waved them off.

She smiled slightly before falling back asleep.
