Chapter 3: Grim and Ahsoka

They were in the middle of attacking Dooku's ship. Grim and Ahsoka stayed on their ship as their masters had deemed it too dangerous to fight the Sith Lord, Grim only crossed her arms and pouted. "I could've helped them."

"Or you could've lost an arm," Rex replied. "Just let the generals handle Dooku, and we'll handle this, we're still helping them."

Grim groaned, "Yeah, but, oh come on they get to have all the fun."

"Rexter is right Grim," Ahsoka told her. "We should let our masters handle this, as much as i'd like to be there too," she then turned to Rex, "and let's try not to blow them up before they escape this time."

"Yes, sir," Rex replied.

"Wait, this time?" Grim asked. "Has this happened before?"

Ahsoka chuckled and placed a hand on Grim's shoulder, "I forget you're new to this." Ahsoka realized what she did and put her arm down and looked away, the markings on her lekku turning a slightly brighter shade of blue.

Grim also turned around, her cheeks dusted with a hint of red as she too blushed.

There was a long and awkward pause before Grim and Ahsoka's commlinks beeped and Obi-Wan's voice came through, "Ahsoka, Grim," he said. "Dooku managed to escape but we're in pursuit, we could use some reinforcements, Follow us in what ships you can round up,"

"Got it master," said Grim. "We'll get there as soon as we can."

Ahsoka and Grim turned away from the viewport, and gathered three of the men, before getting into a ship and following their masters. "I should pilot," said Ahsoka to Grim, seeing as she was rushing to the pilot seat.

Grim was going to protest but knew better too, instead she let her take the pilot seat and she took the co-pilot seat.

Out of habit Grim buckled in as Ahsoka piloted the ship through the battlefield. Explosions rocked the ship and Grim watched the battle in a morbid awe. She knew that it was horrible, but this was something she had only seen on TV.

One explosion got particularly close, Ahsoka swerved out of the way, and Grim gripped her seat tight. Instead of watching the space outside Grim instead found herself watching her friend.

She was in awe with how expertly Ahsoka flew through the battle. She then realized she was staring and quickly looked back at the space outside, a tint of red brushing her face.

"Look out!" Grim cried as a vulture droid almost shot them, before Grim took control of the guns and blasted it into bits.

"Oh, thanks I didn't see that. Great shot there," Ahsoka said, the markings on her lekku turning a brighter shade of blue.

Grim blushed a bit at her compliment, before focusing back at the space outside. They had reached the planet Dooku and their masters had crashed, and just entered the atmosphere.

Ahsoka landed the ship and everyone exited. "They're in that cave," said Grim pointing to the cave with the collapsed entrance. Ahsoka nodded and the two padawans rushed over there with the clone troops following them.

Both Grim and Ahsoka used the force to lift the rocks from the entrance, and Anakin and Obi-Wan exited the cave coughing.

"Looks like we got here just in time," the two padawans said in sync, looking at their masters with their arms crossed.

"What do you mean, just in time?" asked Anakin, dusting himself off.

"You were in very big trouble," Ahsoka pointed out.

"Trouble? We were simply searching for Count Dooku," Obi-Wan replied.

"Then where is Dooku?" Grim retorted.

"We had the situation well under control, our little padawans," Anakin agreed with Master Kenobi.

"So which part of the situation did you have under control?" Ahsoka asked Anakin.

"The blocked entrance," Grim continued.

"The poison gas."

"Or that gundark behind you?" Grim finished for Ahsoka.

"Gundark?" asked Anakin.

"Oh, you mean the one that's too far away to worry about?" Obi-Wan said to Anakin, as the two Jedi turned around.

"Block the entrance," Grim and Ahsoka commanded the clones, who began to fire at the rocks holding up the cave, colpassing them and, preventing the gundark's escape.

"There's still Dooku to deal with," said Anakin as they all headed back to their ship.

"You let him get away?" Ahsoka asked Anakin.

"No, not get away exactly," Anakin replied, as he turned around. "Just..." Ahsoka gave Anakin a look, Anakin turned to Obi-Wan, "chime in anytime."

"Oh no. I'm enjoying this far too much."

Grim chuckled at the exchange, "as am I."

Back on the main ship Windu and Yoda were informing Obi-Wan and Anakin that Dooku had been captured by pirates, as Grim and Ahsoka just watched as the conversation happened. "His only stipulation is that you arrive unarmed," Windu informed them.

"Unarmed?" asked Anakin.

"We know very little about these pirates," said Obi-Wan. "We may be walking blind into what could very well be a hostile situation."

"We can't let Dooku slip through our fingers again," Windu argued. "Report back as soon as you arrive."

"Well this could be fun," commented Obi-Wan as the call ended.

"Oh it will," laughed Grim, aware of what was happening, and what would happen next. "Have fun masters." Obi-Wan and Anakin gave Grim a confused look, though they conveyed different meanings.

Anakin was just confused in general while Obi-Wan understood it to mean that Grim had seen these events before.

That had been a bit ago, and Anakin and Obi-Wan had left.

Grim was bored out of her mind, and had partly wished she had come along, even though she was told not to. Grim ended up listening to them and now she was bored while they had all the fun.

Well, maybe she could use the extra time to practice with her lightsaber. Might as well be productive, she had decided, looking for a place on the ship where she could train without the risk of harming someone.

It seemed the other padawan had had the same idea a little bit before her, because when Grim found the place she found that Ahsoka was training with her reverse grip.

Grim watched her in awe, the way Ahsoka danced so gracefully amazed her. Grim didn't realize she was staring until Ahsoka turned around and saw her.

"Oh, Grim, I didn't see you there," Ahsoka admitted. "Did you want anything?" she asked.

Grim's cheeks went red with blush as she realized she was caught staring at her friend again. "Oh no, it's fine, I just wanted to train," she said.

"You can still train," said Ahsoka. "We both can, if that would be okay?"

"Alright, fair warning I'm not as good as you."

"That's why we're training," remarked Ahsoka jokingly.

Grim laughed and rolled her eyes playfully. Ahsoka went back to practicing and Grim found her own spot in the room to practice her own lightsaber skills.

Grim moved as Obi-Wan had taught her, but she couldn't remain focused, every once in a while her eyes would flicker over to Ahsoka, who danced with such grace.

Grim found herself suddenly tripping on her feet, she almost fell but Ahsoka caught her. Grim's face went red and she apologized profusely insisting she wasn't normally so clumsy. Eventually Grim ended up laughing and Ahsoka laughed along. The two just stood there smiling and laughing.

The two went back to their practice and this time Grim didn't let her friend distract her. Grim attempted a few different and new tricks, and in the middle of one she slipped and landed on her face. She murmured a curse word in English and quickly stood up hoping Ahsoka didn't catch her slip up.

"Are you alright, Grim?" Ahsoka asked her.

Oh she noticed.

"Yeah I'm fine, just tripped," Grim admitted. "Like I said, I'm not as good as you."

"If you want I could help you?" Ahsoka offered.

Grim blushed at the idea. Ahsoka helping her improve her lightsaber skills? She should say no, she would only get more distracted and her feelings might show, but she instead said "yeah, that would be nice!"

Now Ahsoka was helping Grim, she tried to hide the fact that her face was turning red, and that her heart was beating faster. It wasn't possible for her to be feeling this way, whatever this way was.

Grim was getting better though, and Ahsoka was helping her. Eventually Grim managed to do way better than before. "You're doing great, Grim," Ahsoka told her.

"Thanks to you," replied Grim.

"I wonder how our masters are doing," said Ahsoka.

"They're doing just fine without us, having all the fun," she replied.

"You sound upset that you aren't with them," she noted.

"They get to have all the fun without us, just because they're masters and we're padawans," Grim pouted.

"Would you honestly rather be dealing with pirates?" Ahsoka asked her.

"Fair enough, and I've been having fun with you, it's just.....I don't like not doing anything."

"I know exactly what you mean Grim. You've got to learn to be patient, though."

"I know, I know," sighed Grim. "Can we go back to training?"

"Of course," Ahsoka replied.

The two continued training, this time they went back to doing it individually. Grim didn't allow Ahsoka to distract her this time. Grim performed her own dance by Ahsoka who performed hers.

The two Jedi padawans danced together well, even if they did two different dances. The performance would be beautiful to watch if anyone saw them, but nobody bothered the two.

As Grim danced, thoughts whirled in her brain.

What were these feelings she felt whenever she was near Ahsoka? She swore she'd read about them in books, but what she felt for Ahsoka surely wasn't the same. No, it couldn't be. Even if it was, there was no way she could act upon these feelings. Besides, it would be doomed. Grim kept far too many secrets for it to work.

Grim shook herself from her thoughts and continued her dance. She didn't let her thoughts back in, pushing them away and focusing on practicing her lightsaber moves.

The thoughts kept asking, but Grim didn't answer. She knew it, but refused to say. No, the thoughts were distractions.

Again she focused on her practice, not the question that demanded an answer, not the togruta who practiced beside her. Grim focused on the lightsaber in her hands, as she moved it, and moved with it.

There was nothing else, just her and her lightsaber, she blocked out her distractions as she was taught to and she danced.

Obi-Wan and Anakin returned from their mission and found the two padawans training. They smiled at each other, glad to see that they had become friends while they were gone.

The two padawans stopped training upon noticing their masters. "Hello masters," said Grim. "Have fun without us?"

"It was interesting to say the least," Obi-Wan replied. "Being captured by pirates isn't really my sense of fun. How about you two?"

"You got captured?" Ahsoka asked, surprised.

"We're fine now though, Snips," Anakin replied. "Even if Dooku escaped....again."

"We'll get him eventually," Grim said determinedly.

"Eventually couldn't come soon enough," said Anakin.

"That I can agree on," sighed Obi-Wan.

"Like Grim said we'll get him one day," Ahsoka replied.

When they returned to the Jedi Temple the two sets of master and padawan split off. As Grim watched Anakin and Ahsoka leave, her gaze lingered on Ahsoka for a long time.

Once again she couldn't ignore the thoughts in her mind. They knocked and Grim reluctantly let them in.

She allowed her mind to ask the question her heart knew the answer to. Was she really in love with her? The answer was yes, but Grim knew Ahsoka would never like her back. They were Jedi, and an attachment like that was dangerous for them.

Grim would learn to ignore the blush that brushed across her cheeks, the butterflies in her stomach and the flutter of her heart. Grim would just be friends with Ahsoka, nothing more, and that was okay with her.
