Chapter 1: In A Galaxy Far Far Away
A young teenage girl sat on the couch watching Revenge Of The Sith, on the screen Anakin and Obi-Wan battled to the death, their lightsabers clashing together. Grim smiled as she watched, "Go Obi-Wan!" She cheered. Her smile grew the more she watched the duel take place.
Obi-Wan reached the high ground and- Grim wasn't on her couch, she wasn't watching Revenge Of The Sith, she was standing in the middle of a battle. She blinked several times, not quite yet understanding her situation.
There were droids and clones shooting, blaster fire filling the air, and not that far away, leading the clones was a Jedi with a shimmering blue lightsaber. Grim still didn't register what was going on, standing there dumbly watching.
A blaster bolt narrowly missed her and suddenly the young girl registered the danger she was in. She frantically searched for some cover and found a rock big enough to conceal her, quickly Grim jumped behind that rock and hid.
Her mind was a whirlwind of questions; how had this happened? Was this real? Did she fall asleep, and was this just a dream? Was she too sleep deprived? This couldn't be real, could it?
Grim was so lost in her thoughts she didn't notice the blaster bolt until it was too late, it was going to hit her, she was going to die- it never hit her. Grim looked up, in front of her stood the Jedi from before.
"Are you alright?"
Grim blinked, before her stood Obi-Wan Kenobi and he had just saved her life, "holy shit," Grim muttered under her breath. "You're fucking Obi-Wan Kenobi."
"Are you alright?" Obi-Wan asked once more.
Grim blinked again, registering his question now, "yeah, thanks to you, you saved me, thanks," Grim replied, she was still slightly shaken, and trying to figure out what was going on.
"You should get to a safer area, it's dangerous for you to be here," Obi-Wan told her.
Grim nodded, "Okay, yeah, I'll do that. Do you know where a safer area is?"
Obi-Wan gave the directions to Grim, who nodded, but wasn't fully listening, she was still in awe about the fact that she was talking to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
She started to head in the direction Obi-Wan had indicated, but then she noticed something out of the corner of her eye.
Obi-Wan had dropped his lightsaber and was about to be shot- the bolt didn't hit him. Grim stood in front of Obi-Wan, his blue lightsaber shining brightly in her hands, she had deflected the shot back at the droids that had fired it.
"You dropped something," Grim informed him, handing the Jedi back his lightsaber.
When Grim had noticed Obi-Wan in danger she hadn't thought, she had just acted. Her mind had been empty, she wasn't following any feelings, her body had acted on its own.
Having noticed the lightsaber, Grim reached out her hand and the hilt had flown to her hand, then with a swish she ignited the blade. She then ran in front of the Jedi, moving the blade to deflect the shot right back at the droid, before handing the weapon back to its owner.
All without thinking about what she was doing, it had been on instinct. When Grim saw Obi-Wan in danger her very first instinct was to save him, and without thinking she had done just that.
"Thank you," Obi-Wan told Grim as he took his lightsaber back. "Though I believed I told you to get someplace safe?"
Grim blinked, only just now registering what she had just done, "Right! I'll, uh, I'll go do that now."
Awkwardly Grim ran back off to the safe area Obi-Wan had previously indicated. Her mind exploded with questions: had she really just done that? Had Grim just used the force? Had she truly just saved Obi-Wan? Had she just wielded a lightsaber?
This all seemed to be out of a dream. Once more her mind became a whirlwind of thoughts. It simply wasn't possible for her to be in Star Wars, yet something deep within her, something that had seemed to have awakened, was telling her she was truly in Star Wars, and everything was about to change.
Star Wars was real. Star Wars was real and she was in it. Grim's first thoughts upon this realization, was excitement. Being in Star Wars? That was a dream come true. For as long as she remembered she loved Star Wars, and now she was experiencing it.
The next set of thoughts were those of worry, if she was in The Clone Wars now, how was she going to survive what was to come? Then that led her to realize that she could prevent what was to come. If she played her hand correctly, then perhaps Grim could save the Jedi. Upon this new realization Grim began to make a plan, at least the concept of one.
Once the battle had concluded, Grim went to find Obi-Wan, hoping that perhaps he could help her with her current problem. Scouring the field for him, she finally spotted him and headed his way. "Hello, do you think you can help me?"
"What do you need help with?" Obi-Wan asked.
"Okay so, first let me introduce myself, I'm Grim Kennet, and I'm from another universe where all of this is fictional, anyways I've seen a lot of this universe and I don't really like the ending. It’s super upsetting and a lot of people die, and I don’t want that to happen. And I think since I'm from another universe and all, I can prevent that from ever happening, I mean it's going to be hard, but I have to try! I can't let people die if I can stop it! I know it's crazy, and you probably don't believe me, and I understand! But do you think maybe you can help me?"
"Well. You seem like an ah... spirited young person, and you've already demonstrated your... potential today." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "I believe we'll be seeing much more of each other in the future, but I also believe we'd better figure out where you'll be staying before I can bring you to the Council. Shall we?"
Grim grinned ear to ear, "alright!"
"What does your home look like, young one? Perhaps I can help you find it."
She frowned, "you don't believe me. How can I prove it? I'm being honest with you. How can I prove to you I'm from another universe and know about this one?"
"Perhaps inform me of something that you wouldn't be able to know otherwise," Obi-Wan suggested.
"Alright," said Grim. She thought about it for a moment, "how long has the war been going on? Just so I don't spoil the future. Know what never mind it's still season one territory you're wearing armor, possibly season two but I feel like it's season one. Okay something from before The Clone Wars show…"
Grim continued to think about it before saying; "this is something you said to Qui-Gon many years ago: 'You were right master, the negotiations were short,' or is that not enough proof?"
Obi-Wan stared at her for a moment, speechless. "Alright," he said at last. "You've made your point."
Grim smirked, "Good, I didn't want to have to traumatize you, yet." Then she laughed and said, "I'm just messing with you, Master Kenobi."
That was several hours ago, now Grim was waiting as Obi-Wan explained her situation to the Jedi Council. She paced back and forth as a million thoughts filled her head. What were the Jedi going to say? Were they going to help her go home? Did she even want to go back home? Grim doubted she would even be able to live with herself if she left without stopping Order 66.
Yes, even if the Jedi offered to help her find her home then she would decline. She couldn't leave before she changed anything. She was determined to save as many lives as she could, even if it killed her.
The door opened, "Grim the council would like to speak with you now," Obi-Wan informed her.
Grim straightened her shoulders and held her head high as she entered the Council Chamber. "Young Grim," Yoda spoke. "Unique, your situation is."
"Unique is an understatement," Grim muttered under her breath.
"As here you are, what do you want to do?" he asked her. “Help find you a way home, we can.”
"No," said Grim. "Since I'm here, I want to try and prevent a terrible ending from happening," she told him. "I want to save as many lives as possible, if I can. I don't care that I could leave things as they are, if there's even the slightest chance that I can save lives, change the ending, then I can't pass it up."
"Training, you would need, if wish to change this you do," Yoda told her.
Grim blinked, "Training?" she asked, a little dumbfounded. "As in? You can't mean-?"
"Yes, a padawan, you would become," Yoda confirmed.
Grim gawked, "you're kidding- a padawan? Me? But- who would even train me?"
"I would," said Obi-Wan.
Grim looked around at all the Jedi in surprise. "Thank you," she said at last. "I would be honored."
Over the course of the next few days, Obi-Wan helped Grim settle into becoming a Jedi, and adjust to her new life. Grim had also met several other Jedi as well, including Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano.
She still remembered meeting them. Her meeting with Anakin had happened very shortly after becoming Master Kenobi's padawan.
"Obi-Wan, I heard the news, is it true that you have a new padawan?" Anakin had asked, not noticing Grim at first.
"It's true," Obi-Wan had replied, gesturing to Grim. She gave Anakin a big grin and a wave. "Anakin, meet Grim, Grim meet Anakin."
"Hello Anakin!" Grim had said cheerfully. "It's nice to meet you!"
"Nice to meet you as well Grim, welcome to the boring world of being apprenticed to Master Kenobi."
"Anakin-" Obi-Wan had started.
Grim had only laughed, and then Anakin gave Obi-Wan a grin, "I'm just kidding."
Grim's first meeting with Ahsoka however, was something else. Obi-Wan had been showing Grim around the temple, and she had ended up wandering off. Running into Ahsoka, and just barely not literally, luckily Grim had stopped herself before it became a disaster. "Oh! I'm sorry!" Grim had apologized.
"It's alright," Ahsoka had replied. "I'm Ahsoka, what's your name?"
"Grim, my name is Grim. It's nice to meet you Ahsoka."
"Grim? Aren't you Master Kenobi's new padawan?"
"Ye-"
"There you are Grim," said Obi-Wan. "I see you've met Ahsoka."
"Yeah! Sorry for wandering off, I got distracted."
Currently Grim was chilling out in her quarters feeling bored, until Obi-Wan came in. "Grim, it's time for you to get your kyber crystal, and build your own lightsaber."
Grim quickly jumped to her feet at that, "Hell yeah!" she cheered.
She couldn't stay still; she was so excited, it almost felt like this was her true initiation into the Star Wars universe.
The entire ride to Illum Grim paced back and forth as she imagined what her lightsaber may look like, whenever she did sit it wasn't still, instead she doodled and sketched concepts of what her lightsaber hilt should look like.
Grim had no clue what color her blade would be, but at least she could plan the design of the hilt. Each design was different, some designs were based off Obi-Wan's lightsaber, some based more off of Anakin's, some completely unique. One design had her considering wielding a saberstaff, though after consideration she figured that would be far too difficult to fight with.
The final design she settled on was a curved lightsaber, beside the emitter split two slightly curved edges. The very end of the hilt would be a separate color than the rest of the body. Though what color she was not yet sure of.
At last they had finally landed on the planet. Obi-Wan had informed Grim that it was time so she put on a fluffy purple winter coat and stepped outside. The moment she stepped outside she was hit by a wave of cold air, and she grinned.
Covering the planet was beautiful white snow and blue ice. She had never seen snow before, at least not in reality so being here was a new and exciting experience in every aspect. Not only was she truly on her way to be a Jedi and fixing to wield her very own lightsaber, but she was seeing the beauty of snow. Grim couldn't contain her excitement and ran out of the ship and into the snow.
The snow crunched under her boots, and it made such a lovely sound that was music to the young girl's ears. Grim reached down and picked up the snow, and clasped it in a fist allowing the cold to go through her gloves and for the loose snow to fall from her fingers and back to the icy ground.
She spun around as the snow fell all around her, taking in the beauty of it all. She laid down on the snow covered icy ground and began to make a snow angel, as she beamed.
From the exit of the ship Obi-Wan watched his padawan with a smile and a small chuckle. "Having fun?" he asked her.
Grim sat up from her snow angel and flashed him a huge grin, "lots of fun!"
"That's good to hear, come along it's time to find your crystal," Obi-Wan told her as he walked off the ramp and headed over to Grim.
Grim grinned wider as she jumped up from the snow angel, "Alright! Let's go!" With a bounce in her step she followed her master to the icy temple, when they arrived Grim looked around in awe. "Whoa…"
"Okay Grim," said Obi-Wan. "From here you enter the cave to find your crystal, you have until the sun sets to come back with it," he informed her.
"I know master," she told him. "I've seen this before."
"Then may the force be with you."
Grim smiled and waved goodbye as she entered the cave to find her crystal. She knew that she would have to face a challenge, whatever that challenge may be, but she also knew she could find her crystal. She just had to trust in the force.
Closing her eyes Grim reached out and allowed the force to be her guide. She stayed in the same spot until at last she felt the crystal call her. Grim opened her eyes, and when she glanced behind her she noticed that the sun was already beginning to set.
This surprised her and she began to panic, but she calmed herself, she could still get her crystal. Grim followed the call of her crystal until she found it, or rather she found a room full of kyber crystals.
"How am I going to possibly find it now?" Grim complained aloud, but then she took a breath. "I have to trust the force," she reminded herself. Once again she closed her eyes and reached out to the force. She felt her crystal call out to her once more and made her way to the back of the room where she picked up a crystal, opening her eyes she saw that in her hands was a glowing crystal.
A grin found itself on Grim's lips and she rushed out of the cave where she found Obi-Wan waiting on her. "I did it master! I found my crystal!"
Obi-Wan patted Grim's shoulder and gave her a smile, "Wonderful. I'm proud of you, my padawan."
Now Grim sat in deep focus as she visualized her lightsaber in her mind. Sinking deep into the force allowing it to be her guide, her hands stretched in front of her as she built her very own lightsaber.
She opened her eyes and in her hands there was a black lightsaber with a curved hilt, the very end painted red, with two curved edges at the side of the emitter, and a red switch. Grim smiled at the design, it was just as she imagined. "Now to see if it works." Grim pressed the switch and the lightsaber came to life, a shining purple blade shooting out from the emitter, casting the padawan in its glow.
"Whoa! Master look!" Grim called. "I did it! I built my lightsaber!"
Obi-Wan smiled at his padawan, as she happily held her lightsaber, "well done Grim," he told her. Grim deactivated the blade and he walked over to her, "Now remember a lightsaber is not a toy, and it is far more than a weapon. It is an extension of ourselves. Your lightsaber is your life."
"Yes master," said Grim. "I understand."
Now Grim was officially a Jedi Padawan, and she knew her journey was only beginning.
