Pretty White Lies
The rest of the flight with Astrid to Berk was calm and quiet. The only time it was noisy was when you and Astrid would talk about living together. She seemed really excited to have you stay at her home for the time being. It was nice to have someone to be with while you were here in Berk.
Everything around you was so real that you almost forgot you were inside a movie. The place wasn't animated like the program, instead it was life-like and everything looked like it came from your world. Well, except the dragons, of course.
"We're here!" Astrid yelled out to you.
You look in front of you and Astrid to see the village of Berk. The whole place was surrounded by water and houses and docks. It was so beautiful to look at and you found yourself staring at it for longer than you intended to.
When the three of you flew around the town looking for a place to land, some of the villagers noticed Astrid and waved. Sometimes the villagers noticed you onboard and waved at you too, which you replied to by waving back. The smile on your face grew so wide that you thought your face would brake off, but once you landed you softened your smile so that it was just a grin.
Astrid jumped off first then waited at the bottom for you. That's when you were faced with the undeniable truth; you were scared of heights. On Stormfly you were so busy talking to Astrid and looking at the world around you that you barely noticed how far up you were. Stormfly was tall, you now realised, and you were afraid to jump off.
"Come on!" Astrid smiled at you.
You smiled back and slowly moved one leg after the other towards the ground. For a moment you hanged there, holding onto Stormfly's saddle with your legs dangling trying to find the ground. When Astrid giggled you found out that you were only a few inches off the ground so you let go of the saddle and landed on the ground gently.
"You never told me you were afraid of heights, too." Astrid spoke.
"I never knew until now." You answered honestly.
The two of you laughed and she motioned you to walk beside her until you got to her house. On the way there a couple of villagers stopped you both to chat, considering they haven't seen you before, which Astrid replied to with a smile and a goodbye.
Both of you never really thought much on what the others would think of you, and even though they were friendly, Astrid always avoided the question to who you were. Perhaps she wanted you to answer, or perhaps she wanted to find out first. You didn't know.
Once you reached her home she let you walk inside first and then she followed in afterwards. Astrid's house was blue with spikes on the roof, and inside was nice and warm. The place looked nicely set up, although here and there you could see axe marks in the wood or scratches on the ground.
A feeling inside you stopped you in your tracks and you asked yourself-- how old is she? She looks older than 14, so further than the first movie, but she didn't look 20 either. You guessed she was around 16-17, but you decided to let her tell you when you get to chance to ask.
"So, it's not much, but it's better than living outside in the dragon's nest." Astrid laughed.
You laughed back even though you didn't know much about living here on Berk.
"It's fine," You spoke, "I'm sure we'll have fun living together for the time being."
"Yeah!"
Astrid walked over to the fireplace and chucked some logs into the ash. She lit the logs on fire with a stick then chucked the stick itself into the heated flames. Astrid sat down on one of the chairs and motioned you to sit on the chair across from her. You did so and sighed once you felt the comfort of a seat.
"So, (Y/n), where do you come from?" Astrid asked you.
"Umm," You started.
What could you tell her? That you came from a large village called a city with electricity and cars? No, you can't tell her that, she wouldn't believe you, or worse she'll think you're some kind of witch and kill you before you can put a curse on the town.
Now your negativity was speaking. Shut up, you little troublemaker!
"Well I come from... Snerk.... it's a village like this one except smaller... yeah, like really small! So small that not that many people know about it!"
"Snerk... yeah, I've never heard of it before. Where is it?"
Flipping heck, Astrid! Why do you have to make this so hard?!
"Well it's second to the right of North and... straight on till morning...?"
Why did you finish it like a question?! Lying is so hard to do!
Astrid laughed and you held your breath. Did she know you were lying? Well it was pretty obvious, you think.
"I'll have to take Stormfly and fly out there one day. We can take you home now if you know the directions." She said.
"That would be amazing, but I don't really know how I got here or how to get back." You say.
Astrid nodded her head until she lit up and spoke.
"What about your parents?!"
"My parents," You almost were at a lost for words. "aren't with us... anymore."
"Oh, I'm so sorry (Y/n)."
"It's ok, I barely knew them."
For a moment the room was filled with silence and your bad memories flooded you yet again. You didn't have much memory of starting your life with Trish and your aunt, but the memories you do remember were ones you wish you didn't.
"It was a long time ago," You spoke, "I'm over it."
"Well now you can spend some time with me. It'll be fun! We can do so much together that you'll forget how you're feeling now!" Astrid spoke with excitement
You smile and nod at her. Maybe making that wish wasn't so bad afterall.
