((Just a bunch of random ideas I came up with...))

•Cliche: Main Character is a stripper/bartender.
Substitute: Main Character is a drag King/queen.

•Cliche: Main character and the love interest go to the movies.
Substitute: Maybe they go to the drive in movie theaters?

•Cliche: Main Character uses Wattpad.
Substitute: Maybe they don't like Wattpad and use Fanfiction.net/Quotev instead.

•Cliche: Main character is in collage.
Something to add on: Maybe they're in a sorority or part of a frat.

•Cliche: Main character's father is non existent.
Substitute: Main Character's father is away at war, or in another country for work.

•If you wanted to, you could also use the opposites attract rule for characters.
Like, let's say the character you want to ship the reader or an OC with is very excitable, loves hugs, and is very friendly.
Maybe you could make the oc or reader a little more reserved, more shy.
Maybe the character your shipping loves to live life to the fullest.
So maybe the reader/other character enjoys taking life a little slower, at their own pace.
These stories are usually rather cute and work well. Even if they are a little cliche at times.

•cliche: Main Character is pretty smart, and get's all strait As.
Maybe instead...: They're a little nutty. They're pretty smart, but there's just something about them that seems off...
Maybe they ask strange rhetorical questions. Maybe they dress super weird in flashy cloths all the time.

•Maybe instead of the main character having a brother or sister, they have a twin.
Maybe the twin and the main character have opposite interests.
One of my best friends is one of a group of triplets.

•Cliche: ROAD TRIP!!!
Possibly add on...: Motion sickness. Maybe one of the characters ends up puking in a bag the whole time.
Maybe they're all arguing in
The car. Maybe they have to pull over at some diner because one of the characters drank a shit tone of power aid (like me rn) and now they have to piss. (It fucking hurts...)

•Something cool to add would be sibling rivalry!
Maybe the canon character that your using in the story isn't their love interest, but their older/younger brother/sister. Ain't nothin' wrong with a little sibling rivalry!

•Cliche: Love interest meets main character randomly on the street or at school.
Substitute: Maybe they met online and were internet friends, and then finally met in person at some point!
Or maybe they met using online dating.

((I probably made 80% of these even more cliche but whatever.))
