The Parents
You found yourself at a loss for words. You were now sitting next to Evelynn while her parents sat across from the both of you. However, you were no longer in the Cafe you and Evelynn were having your date in.
With no real option, you and her agreed to dinner with them. And now, you were in a restaurant that was just down the street from where you were before.
Her father was a very intimidating man. He was larger than you and he had that grown man muscle.
Her mother was a very gorgeous woman. However, you couldn't quote get a read on her.
Regardless, you had introduced yourself to them with a firm hand shake.
But, for all you young men out there, you need to go the extra step.
Shake their hand.
Look them in the eye as you do.
Show them that you're not scared of them.
Trick them into falling in love with you.
Take them home and sleep with them.
Ruin their happy marriage by being a homewrecker.
Kill their family and pin the death on them.
Attend their execution.
Smile as they get the injection.
Prove to them that you are the dominate one in the situation.
But, maybe not your girlfriend's parents.
Darius: Order whatever you'd like. Our treat.
Y/N: Thank you.
You weren't really hungry, but you were going to get something light out of obligation.
Caitlyn: So, Y/N, tell us about yourself. What kind of things are you into? Besides our daughter, of course.
Evelynn: Mom!
You blushed a bit and awkwardly thought of something to say.
Y/N: Uh, well...I surf and skate. Um, I work part time at the comic book shop over on main street.
Darius: The one that Sett fellow runs?
Did he know him? Hopefully for good reasons.
Y/N: Yeah. That's the one.
Darius: Working for small business. Good. I prefer that over you working over at the Taco Bell or that weird Arby's that always has strange lights flying over it.
Oh yeah. What the hell was up with that, anyway?
Caitlyn: You said you surf? How is that? I've always wondered.
You smiled a bit.
Y/N: Well, it's nice. Relaxing. As long as you don't wipe out.
The waitress came to your table and took your orders before she walked off. You simply ordered a burger and a soda.
Darius: You sure you don't want more? You're a growing boy, after all.
Evelynn: Leave him alone.
Evelynn then turned to you.
Evelynn: You don't have to do anything you don't want to.
You just shook your head.
Y/N: It's alright. They're just being nice.
You hope.
Caitlyn simply leaned forward with a smirk. You understood where Evelynn got her good looks from now.
But, uh, her....assests, on the other hand.....was this on purpose?
Caitlyn: You seem like a nice boy. I believe I know your mother as well.
Y/N: Y-Yeah...maybe. She is...a...nurse.
Why was she doing that? Did she have any shame? Her husband was right there!
Darius: M/N (Mother's Name) L/N, yes?
You nodded.
Caitlyn: I thought so. She's such a nice woman. A hard worker. Always taking double shifts and working overtime.
Well, yeah. She could use the money.
Y/N: That's nice to hear.
Darius: Are you close to your mother?
Y/N: Yeah. Absolutely. We....only have each other.
Darius and Caitlyn looked at each other while Evelynn looked at you. You never did say what happened to your father. You said that you didn't want to talk about it.
Darius: So, you're the man of the house now?
Y/N: Man of the apartment, actually. Which is easier since there's only really four rooms for me to watch over.
You smiled while Darius let out a laugh.
Darius: You can protect the house with a sword.
Y/N: A sword? It's ain't that big, chief.
Darius: Chief? I like that one.
Evelynn and Caitlyn watched as the two of you got along over stupid jokes and nicknames. It was bizarre how easily you got him to laugh.
Her father was normally a stern man when he wasn't home. Caitlyn had noticed that her husband was able to talk to you like you were one of her sons.
Caitlyn: He has a nice smile.
Evelynn: Yeah.
Darius: Ah, man. Tell me, Y/N, do you listen to any older music?
Y/N: Uh, to a point, yeah. Mostly 90's but I listen to a bit of everything going back to the 60's.
Darius: 90's is perfect. Say, I have this collection of old CD's that I've been trying to get rid of. But, I want to give it to someone who would appreciate them.
Y/N: Really? I...yeah. That sounds awesome.
Free CD's? Hell yeah!
Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. They really did seem like nice people. Plus, you were still able to spend time with Evelynn.
Eveylnn: Hey.
She gently tapped your hand and your turned to her. Without really thinking, you held her hand. She was a bit surpised by this, but she didn't protest.
Evelynn: I'm really sorry about this. I didn't even know they were around.
You just smiled and leaned closer to her to talk.
Y/N: It's fine. They're nice. I can see where you got a lot of your personality, though.
You both smiled and laughed a bit while her parents watched. The way you made her smile was actually quite amazing to them. It was sincere and very natural.
How did you do it?
Evelynn: Yeah. They're pretty cool. You know, when they're not embarrassing me.
Caitlyn: We'll always embarrass you, dear.
Darius: Until the day we die.
He kissed his wife on the cheek which made Eveylnn roll her eyes. You, however, felt a sting in your heart and gut. Seeing them like this reminded you of your mom and dad.
Back when things were still okay. When he was still here.
Eveylnn noticed the look on your face and went to talk to you, but the food arrived. You sat up and forced a smile.
Y/N: Yeah. Let's dig in.
------------
You stood in the parking lot with the three LeBlancs as the night came to a close. Dinner was nice and you made sure to keep the conversation going.
But, you did get through it.
Darius: This was wonderful. I have to say, I had a good time talking to you, Y/N.
Y/N: Likewise, sir.
Caitlyn: We should do this again. It had been some time since we went on a double date.
You and Evelynn looked at each other an realized that you had totally gone on a real date just now.
Darius: Maybe you could come over to dinner some day.
Why was everyone inviting you over for dinner?
Y/N: Y-Yeah. Sure.
Caitlyn: Well, we'll leave so you two can say bye. It was nice to meet you, Y/N.
You nodded and the two parents walked off towards their car, leaving you and Evelynn alone.
You awkwardly looked at her and smiled.
Y/N: There's your parents. They were cool.
Evelynn: Yeah. And they did seem to like you.
Y/N: Yep.
You both stood there for a moment and watched their car. After a while, they realized that you weren't going to do anything and finally left.
You both watched them until they were all the way gone before you turned to each other again.
Y/N: Well....goodnight?
Evelynn: Yeah.
She awkwardly moved towards you and gave you a hug. You smiled and returned the gesture.
Evelynn: Sorry. You still don't get a kiss yet.
Y/N: One day.
She just laughed.
Meeting the parents wasn't that bad after all.
