Prologue
(A/N: Set exactly one Narnian year after The Silver Chair, for those that have read the books. Also set one regular year after WWD. PLEASE NOTE: if you have not read The Silver Chair, this chapter, if not others as well, will contain some spoilers.)
Peter's POV:
It's been one year.
One whole year.
One year since Elsa died. One year since we've been back to Narnia.
And I still haven't gotten over Elsa's death.
I know that we didn't know each other for very long, but I just had this feeling that we were meant to be together. She is the reason that I believe in love at first sight. I have tried to move on, but it's impossible. I just can't get her out of my head. She's been all I can think about, ever since we left. But it's over.
I'll never see her again.
Edmund's POV:
I was sitting on my bed in the room I share with Peter, while he was lying on his own bed and staring at the ceiling with a blank expression, as usual, when Lucy suddenly burst through the door.
"Ed! Pete! It's a letter from Eustace! He says he's been back to Narnia!"
I immediately looked up at her to see she was holding a letter and an open envelope. There was no mistaking Eustace's scribbling cursive on the paper.
"Give it here," I instructed, as Peter made his way to sit beside me on the bed. We would have called Susan to be with us when we read the letter, but she no longer believed in Narnia. She only referred to it as, "Some silly game we used to play as kids."
"Now, I only scanned through it," Lucy explained, "So I only know for sure that he went back to Narnia. Nothing else."
"That's fine, Lu," I reassured her as she sat on my other side. "Let's just read it, shall we?" Lucy nodded, and I began to read the letter:
Dear Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy,
I have been back to Narnia! (Eustace doesn't know yet that Su doesn't believe in Narnia anymore.) It's a long story, so I'll spare the details and tell you the whole of it in person. But, there are a few things that you should know, and I don't believe you're going to be very fond of some of the information I am about to share with you. First of all, Caspian married a woman named Lilliandil. She was the daughter of Ramandu.
"I remember her!" Lucy exclaimed, interrupting me, "You could really tell that Caspian liked her. And they were so adorable!" This comment caused Peter to let out one small, soft laugh. The happiest I've seen him in a year.
"Anyway," I interjected, clearing my throat, and continued to read:
They also had a son, Rilian, who was the reason Jill and I were there. Oh, I failed to mention that Jill ventured to Narnia with me! Anyway, Lilliandil died, due to circumstances that I will explain in person. But none of that was the information you might not want to hear-or would it be read? Either way, you're not going to like what you're about to read. As Jill and I returned from Ettinsmoor with Rilian (it's a long story-again I will explain later) we found that Caspian was dying, and we got to see him one last time before he passed. Well, I should get going, but please, write back as soon as you can.
Sincerelly,
Eustace
"Wow. So Caspian's de-" I stopped myself, glancing at Peter, realizing the word 'dead' might cause him to break down. "Um, he's, he's gone."
Pete sighed, lying on his back on my bed.
"Pete, are you alright?" Lucy asked, clearly concerned about her oldest brother.
"I'm fine, Lu, it's just-" he cut himself off, standing up and opening the door, "I just need some time alone."
With that, he slammed the door, running off to who-knows-where.
The prologue's up along with the first two chapters! YAY!!!!
