Chapter Sixteen
WARNING: This chapter is probably going to be extremely short.
Elsa's POV
Not moments after Peter and I arrived in his bedroom in England, familiar voices could be heard down the hall.
"Come on, Edmund! We should at least check!"
"Lucy, if he was here, he would have found us by now."
"It's been two hours, Ed! We should at least check!"
Seconds later, the door opened, and Edmund and Lucy appeared on the other side.
"Peter! Elsa! You're here!" Lucy ran over and engulfed us in a group hug.
"But, Elsa, why did you come back with us?" Edmund asked when Lucy had released Peter and myself from the hug.
"Isn't it obvious, Ed?" Lucy countered, "Pete and Elsa are meant to be together! They're soulmates!"
I felt heat rising to my cheeks and stared down at my feet. Just then, Susan's voice was heard throughout the house.
"Edmund! Lucy!" she yelled, "Professor Kirke is here!"
"Did she just say Professor Kirke?" I inquired.
"Yes," Peter answered, "He visited Narnia when he was a child. Why?"
I looked Peter straight in the eyes. "He's my grandfather."
Lucy's POV
After Elsa explained the situation to us, we made our way downstairs and took turns explaining it all to Digory. Afterwards, we told him about our most recent adventure in Narnia.
"So, that's what happened to my son," Digory sighed when we had finished the tale.
"Well," Elsa began, placing a hand on Digory's shoulder "At least I know why I'm not like my parents."
"I think we're all pretty glad you weren't," Edmund pointed out.
"You know," Digory began, "Polly was supposed to be here, too. She said she might be a bit late, but it's been quite awhile."
Just then, a kind, elderly face peeped through the door. "My ears are burning," Polly declared, "Are you talking about me?"
"As a matter of fact, I was just telling the children that you were coming, as well," Digory replied.
So, once again, we had to explain the whole story, this time to Polly. Afterwards, we talked about Narnia for what seemed like forever.
"I say, what do you think happened to Eustace and Jill?" I wondered.
"Obviously, Lu, they came back," Ed remarked.
"I know that," I scoffed, "I meant, where do you think they went?"
"Why don't you ask us?" Jill's voice rang through the halls, and she appeared in the doorway seconds before Eustace. "We figured you would all be here." They came and sat down with us, joining our conversation.
After quite a few more hours of conversing with each other, Polly glanced out the window and noted it was getting dark, and everyone should be heading home. Elsa left to stay with Digory, Polly left for her own home, and Jill left with Eustace.
Peter's POV
Since neither Lucy, Edmund, or myself had had dinner, we went to bed without it, because we had so stupidly forgotten about eating. I tried to fall asleep, but I couldn't. Although, it was only partly because of the obnoxious noises coming from my stomach.
Without another thought, I made my way downstairs and into the kitchen, scouring the cupboards for something to settle my stomach for the night. As I entered, I found Ed also there, eating peanuts.
"Couldn't sleep, either?" he questioned between handfuls of said peanuts.
"Only because I was hungry," I answered a little too quickly.
"Oh, I get it," Ed smirked, "You already miss Elsa!"
"Of course!" Lucy sing-songed from behind us as she walked into the kitchen.
I crossed my arms. "Let me guess: you were hungry, too?"
Lucy nodded. "Mm-hmm! I'm starved!"
"We should probably eat, then, shouldn't we?" I countered, grabbing an apple and taking a bite.
"Way to avoid the topic at hand, Pete," Edmund chuckled.
"Really," Lucy started, "It's only a matter of time before you actually start dating and officially become a couple. Then you'll get engaged, then you'll het married, then-"
"Thank you, Lucy," I cut her off, a warning tone lacing my voice.
"What I'm saying," she continued, "Is that you two were made for each other, so of course you miss her."
"Thanks, Lu," I told her genuinely this time. I threw the apple core in the trash and left the kitchen, returning to the comfort of my bed and the lure of sleep.
I TOLD YOU THIS CHAPTER WAS GOING TO BE EXTREMELY SHORT!!!!
Sorry for that, but it's the last full chapter, Next up: the epilogue! Then this book is finished, and all that'll be left is the acknowledgements! I'm excited for the next book, too! (That's right, people! The series isn't finished yet!) So, school was canceled AGAIN, so I'll have the rest of the day today, as well as the whole weekend to finish and start the next book! Another warning; the epilogue will be pretty short, too, but I hope you've enjoyed so far!
