149. Like Mother Like Son

Julianne Hunter. Just what was she planning?

The first word. Train. But... from where?

The Hunter house hold was a decidedly normal looking building.

In fact, on closer and more expert attention, it was almost artistically average.

Not completely average, but average enough and with enough personality, tha no one would suspect anything strange was happening inside that house.

That spider web that trapped people's minds into a sense of foolish complacency while entering her house, was the creation of Julianne Hunter.

A perfect web, she would call it. A good example being the team. Not even Ken could catch on.

Julianne: We're here to train.

Max's countenance immediately changed to a smirk.

Max: Hmph!

Rose: Oh, right.

Rose returned to her friends side so Julianne could face them all at once.

Tiffany: Ok, where do we start?

Every statement that came out of her lips felt so wrong. She wasn't used to being pretentious.

Ken: (thinking: Our poor dauntless leader.)

Julianne: Right there.

She pointed to a door leading to what would look like a normal basement.

The unsureness in all the teens inceased even more.

Train.... in the basement?

Tiffany: Sure.....

She was trying so hard to be polite as well as not reveal her true feelings towards the situation.

She motioned the rest of her team to follow her, but she paused at the door and turned to look at Julianne. In her mind, it was  rude to enter a room in a house to which she did not belong, especially since it was her first time.

And so, permission was necessary.

Julianne: (smiling) (thinking: She's a polite one.) Go right ahead.

And so, she opened the door.

One may have expected to see a room full of technological advancements, or at the very least an open space.

What appeared in front of them, however, was a normal looking basement.

So normal, it was absurd.

It was clean. But there was nothing else to be said of it.

And so the usually calm Tiffany paused. For one thing, there wasn't nearly enough space to train. For another, what exactly did Max's mother have planned for them if this was where they were going to train?

To make things even weirder, his mother spoke up from behind them.

Julianne: What's the hold up? Go on. Go inside.

Ken, Luke and Tiffany gave each other questionable looks.

What would they even say?

The same could be said of Rose. Even if she was better acquainted with his mother, she didn't quite know what to say of this.

And so, the four teens remained silent, not knowing what to say, until....

Julianne: Is something wrong?

Rose: Ummm... well...... it's just..... I mean....

Rose's rebuttal gave Tiffany a bit more confidence.

Tiffany: I think what she's trying to say, Mrs Hunter, is that... well... given our abilities...

But saying it made her feel like needles should've passed through her throat. It was agony.

Tiffany: It's just...

And then the thing she expected least happened.

Julianne Hunter burst into a loud and hysterical laughter, shocking all of them.

They all exchanged glances once more.

To perhaps alleviate some of their confusion, they turned to Max, who was simply laughing as well, albeit not as hysterically.

Just what kind of family was this?

Julianne: Oh, I'm so sorry. Really.

She laughed once more.

And they simply looked at each other again.

Julianne: (reeling from laughter) Oh.... oh.... ok. I think I'm done.

She had laughed herself to the ground.

Julianne: Alright then.

Rose: Ummmm.... Mrs Hunter....?

Most confused, of course, was Rose. She'd never seen this side of his mother. In fact, none of them had. To think she'd be one to laugh like that.

Julianne: Oh, I'm so sorry. That was all just a prank.

Ken, Tiffany, Luke and Rose: A prank!?

Julianne: Yes, a prank.

And then it dawned on them. They didn't just know little about her. They knew nothing.

As for Julianne, this was simply her way of breaking the ice. The teens werent the only ones stressed out about the night, after all.

Julianne: Now, if you'll excuse me.

She walked into the basement herself and placed her hand on a wall.

There was nothing peculiar about this wall. No cracks, or stains or even something to make it look somewhat different from the rest of the wall. But right after she'd placed her hand on it, the basement started to expand.

The teens could only gaze in awe at the sheer impressiveness of the room.
