123. The Playground

The playground.

What would one expect from such a place?

For one thing, it wasn't what one would expect.

Not just in the sense that it wasn't a playground for children, but also, in the sense that it wasn't just another centre of the town.

One would imagine that it was just another set of buildings in the city, but no, it wasn't.

It wasn't even just another open space.

As a matter of fact, it was a massive crater, smack dab in the centre of the town.

It was like a canyon. Deep enough that only a skilled climber could get in and get out. And as for the bottom, it was incredibly wide. Wide enough that several cars could drive there freely without any worry of non intentional collisions.

Max: Woah!

Ken: Yep. It is a beaut.

Luke: I'll say....

Max: That place is huge!

Tiffany: Yeah, it is.

Ken: Maximillian Hunter...

Max: Huh?

Ken: Welcome to the playground.

In all its awe, looking down at it from the top of the crater, he couldn't help but feel impressed by the sheer impressiveness of the spectacle.

Tiffany: Alright, let's get down there.

She struck out her katana.

Tiffany: But first, Ken?

Ken: Right.

He scanned the surrounding area once.

Ken: No pursuers.

Tiffany: Alright. Rose?

Rose: Uh huh.

She used her psychic powers to try to detect any humans.

Rose: I can't sense anyone.

Tiffany: Good....

Ken: Though, to be honest, no one ever follows us here...

Tiffany: I know. Just need to be sure....

She walked up to the face of the cliff.

Tiffany: Alright, team....

Her eyes uneasily fell on Max as she said this...

Tiffany: ... let's move.

Max: Team...

Ken: She means you too, Max.

Max: Yeah, yeah, I know that. Wait, how are we gonna get down there?

Tiffany: Rose?

Rose: Got it.

At that moment, a piece of earth came from the ground, lifting them all up into the air.

Max: Woah...

He struggled for just a second to maintain his balance.

Luke: Stay steady, Max.

Max: Yeah, yeah, I got it.

The rock moved down to the ground gently but also quickly.

As they descended, Max got a better view of the playground.

It was filled with crevices, massive boulders and had a very rough terrain with rough walls.

But what became more conspicuous every moment, were signs of destruction and "human intervention."

"Human intervention" that most likely came from the others. That much was obvious to Max.

The boulder eventually landed on the ground.

Max was the first to get off of it, dashing off of the rock and taking his time to look around.

The others calmly walked down and off of the boulder.

Max: This place is even bigger up close.

Tiffany: Alright, team. Let's get to it.

Luke: Yeah

He crackled his knuckles together.

Ken: Let's get this over and done with.

Rose: Uh huh... let's go.

Max was still looking at all the destruction.

It was clear as day. Exceedingly, heavy things had been lifted and then thrown, blown up, brushed or sliced, and diced.

Since he seemed so distracted, Tiffany decided to talk to him.

Tiffany: Max?

Max: You guys.... are awesome.

Rose: R.... really?

She blushed.

Ken: Why, thank you.

Luke: Yeah. But let's just get started already.

Max: Hmph....

Tiffany: Alright. We'll start with basic warm-ups. Rose? Ken?

Rose: Gotcha!

Ken: Hmph!

Max: Warm-ups?

Ken: Just give it a sec...

He pointed a standing ready Rose to certain rocks in the cliff face, and she pulled them out with her psychic powers.

Max: Huh? Why are you...

Ken: Just making ure we don't destroy this place with us in it.

Max: Oh.... right.

The rocks landed on the ground. There were five of them. Each about the twice the size of a normal human.

Tiffany: Alright, team. Go!

Max: Wai.. what....?!

Before he could finish speaking, Luke smashed one rock with a single punch, Ken melted one down with lasers, Rose crushed one with her psychic powers, and Tiffany sliced and diced one into several smaller pieces.

Max: Huh....

There was one rock remaining, and the others looked at Max. But they didn't need to look for long, or at all for any matter, as he'd immediately figured out what the point of it all was.

He walked towards the rock, and electricity sparked out of his right hand.

Max: Hmph!

An electric bolt blasted the rock and blew it up immediately.

Ken: Not bad.

Rose: Yeah, good job, Max.

Luke: Nicely done.

Tiffany: Good. We all seem to be in a good enough condition to fight.
