THIRTY FOUR: Third person (3 years ago)

"Where are you going to in such a rush?" Gabriel's heart and body stilled for a moment when he heard the familiar voice of his sister. "Gabriel?" She walked over to him and held his shoulder, but his gaze was fixed else where, she tried to turn around and see what had his attention, but before she could turn, he quickly grabbed her chin.

"Listen, Josephine. Go back to school, I have someone to catch up to. Don't forget they are coming to visit today" he patted her cheeks and took off running before she could get another word out. Josephine stood there transfixed. Staring at his retreating figure in deliberation and after a while, she shook her head and went back from where she came from. If they were visiting today, one of them had to atleast be there.

Gabriel had hoped to trail behind him silently. All he needed to do was figure out their hideout, and the next time he would have them all arrested with the exception of Franklin, of course. That way, he can have one over Franklin and then his secret will be kept and the blackmails can end. The idea had popped into his mind spontanously, and he was never one to follow through with an idea without a proper plan but this one was too good to let slip by.

He had gotten up the next minute and followed him. He trailed behind the clueless boy quietly and at a safe distance. He had spent his early years of childhood learning martial arts and a bunch of whatever it was that was enforced on him, so he had no problem ducking, anytime he turned around.

And that was his mistake. He overestimated his ability and never really bothered checking out the areas he ducked in, the next time Franklin had unexpectedly turned, he immediately ducked and hit his head against a fence. The unexpected pain shot through his head and without meaning to, he let out a scream in pain.

Franklin immediately turned around with wide eyes in search of the source of the noise. It didn't take long for him to make eye contact with the culprit and the real owner of the 5 thousand dollars he had, cradled to his chest. Four lettered word escaped under his breath and he took off running.

"Oh heck no!" Gabriel exclaimed. He immediately stood up and ran after the boy, a tiny voice whispered ever so often for him to stop and go back but his mind was already made up. His decision was strong enough to swallow up the tiny voice cautioning him and he pursued the boy, even more fiercely than ever.

"Stay the f*** away from me! You fag!" Franklin had cursed over his shoulder as he ran into the street without looking. And a black SUV crashed into the scrawny looking dude and sent him tumbling into the air. An ear piercing scream reasonated in the area when he fell to the ground with a thud, blood gushing out from his head.

A young girl who he immediately identified as his twin, ran out from wherever she was hiding and held the now pale Franklin in her arm as his blood stained her floral gown, "call 911! He's going to die!" She all but screamed but Gabriel couldn't move. He was too shocked to.

That was until the door to the SUV opened, and his father stepped down from the car. He was 6'5ft, muscular in everyway. His square rimmed glasses rested easy on his bearded face as he surveyed the accident, before he slowly rested his eyes on his son; who didn't miss the disappointment heavy laden in his eyes. His father was everything a king should be, he on the other hand, wasn't.

"The ambulance would soon be here. Both of you, get into the car" his voice was calm but firm, as always. Josephine had slowly let go of him, before she stood to her feet. Her entire body trembled and tears streamed down her face like droplets of rain as she walked into the car with her head hung low.

Gabriel on the other hand, snapped out of his shock and with his fists clenched tightly by his side he tried to walk into the car looking strong, but his resolve broke when he made eye contact with the eyes that were now bloodshot with tears. Eyes that once looked at him with brightness and mischief, now looked at him in pain and misery. A tear rolled down his cheek and he quickly mouthed "I'm so sorry" before he disappeared into the car.

"I expect you to have everything taken care of" Gabriel had heard his father whisper to his right hand man, before he settled into the car and they drove away. A few seconds after that, he heard the familiar siren of the ambulance and he lowered his head and mumbled a quick prayer. A prayer that came a little too late.

The twins had expected to be driven back to school, but instead they found themselves in one of their family's vacation homes in the city. They had walked straight into their father's study, which was undoubtedly cleaned up while they were still driving there. The door had barely closed behind them, before a heavy palm landed on Gabriel's cheek.

The force was so strong he felt his teeth rattling as the sound bounced off the walls of the room. "I sent you to school to study and what do you do? Lead a boy to his death?" King Chukwuka's voice rang in his ear and he winced. His father never raised his voice. Even now, he sounded cool and calm but for some reason, his voice was the loudest his ear had heard that day.

"And you, Josephine" her glossy eyes immediately widened and she took a few steps back. Her father had never hit her, she had seen him hit Gabriel a dozen times but never her. But the fury in his eyes scared her, he looked perfectly calm but his eyes told a different story and she had never seen him like that before. It scared her.

Chukwuka noticed the look on his daughter's face and slowly let out a breath. He was never one to hit a woman and he wouldn't let the circumstances push him to do so. He took another deep breath and walked to his desk, "both of you should go and get yourselves cleaned up, especially you, Josephine. Report back to the study when you are done"

The children immediately scurried out of the study and disappeared to their individual rooms to freshen up. And while they were gone, Chukwuka made sure to tie the loose strings of the accident.

Once they reported back to their father, he had them on their way back to school. "You have only 3 years left in this place for school, lay low and learn all you have to. I don't want any more accidents, am I clear?" The children bobbed their head vigorously and he let out a disappointed sigh, "you're soon to be King, Gabriel. Get it together and act like one"

"Yes father"

"Good, you may leave now. And remember, not a word of this. To anyone" the children once again bobbed their heads and he dismissed them, and that was the last time they ever spoke of it.
