It was beginning to get dark, and Buster hates the dark. He was getting worried, really worried. His paws started shaking and he started breathing heavily, which is what he does when he's nervous. He had a feeling that something bad was going to happen, so he tried to find some light in the dark, dark streets in a big, big town. Buster runs to the only street lamp in miles, he curls up into a ball and was about to fall asleep, when he heard the squealing tyres of a business car. Buster let out a huge scream, which shook the town. He then heard the men get out of their car, they were heading towards him. He tried to run but he couldn't get away.

Buster woke up 30 minutes later, and found himself trapped in a cage. It was pitch black and silent. Suddenly, the lights came on, Buster looked around the room speechless. This was because he was surrounded by other dogs locked in cages, just like him. He shook his cage backwards and forwards trying to get out, but he just couldn't. All he managed to do was make a loud rattling noise, which gave the other dogs a headache.

10 minutes had past, and Buster had fallen asleep. But he was rudely awoken by the sound of a man shouting at him, poking him through the cage. Then a little girl came running down the stairs shouting, "Daddy, daddy!" She stopped, she couldn't believe what she could see. The girl asked her dad about Buster and the dogs, she asked if they could be released. But, the dad wouldn't allow it.

It was midnight, and the door of the room they were locked in opened once again, it was the little girl. She came round to each of the cages, unlocked them and let the dogs go. "Will you get in trouble for doing this?" Buster asked the girl and she said "Don't worry about me, it Christmas eve, today I will grant you a wish and the wish you will ask for is to be let free, so here you go!" And she unlocked the lock on his cage, and the door swung open. He ran out into the night, but somehow he knew he would see her again.
