Chapter-5
Hello Fam :)
Virat's dramatic. Someone else's also dramatic. Btw, look who had graced this story with their awesomeness. :P
Happy Reading...
It was the first day of the classes and Virat and Hardik were sitting with identical dejected looks on their faces. Reason? The first class of their college life was getting started with their most hated subject, mathematics. Five minutes into the class and they have bonded over their mutual hate towards the subject. Raina, Maths was his favorite, looked really excited and Virat shot a glare towards him. Mahi was in a conversation with Faf and Ab about the education system in India. Rahul was randomly flipping through the pages of the book while Rohit and Ritika were playing noughts and crosses. Ritika was upset because she wasn't winning. What she doesn't know was Rohit was cheating by convincing her to make the wrong move. If the class didn't start within the next ten minutes, Virat had decided to interfere and either make Ritsy win or break them up and make her his new best friend.
Luckily for Rohit, the Professor came at the end of the eighth minute. He had big glasses on his nose and carried a small cardboard box instead of books. "I am your maths professor. I hate wasting time and people who waste time. So, we are skipping the introducing each other part. I am your teacher and hence, you are supposed to know my name but I won't try to know your names because you are some worthless spoilt teenagers who will disrespect me after going to your rooms. Therefore, don't expect any respect from me."
"He is so rude", muttered Virat under his breath.
Mahi elbowed him lightly. "Virat, shh."
"I need one person who would act as a mediator between me and every student of this class. I won't talk to anyone except him. And that person will be selected randomly. This cardboard box contains all your roll numbers. I will pick up one and the person in the chit will be the class representative", said the Professor, before shaking the names and picking out a chit. He smirked evilly looking at the chit and then back at them. "Who's roll number 7?"
Virat groaned inwardly as Mahi raised his hand, standing up.
"What's your name, No.7?", asked the Professor.
"Sir, I am Mahendra Singh Dhoni?"
"Mahe...What? That's too long. I will go with Mahi."
"Sure, sir."
The Professor glared at Mahi and Virat wanted to punch him. "I didn't ask you. Anyway, do you know what's Vector triple product is?"
"Yes, sir", said Mahi, because he was an obedient student who doesn't read his books before the class like Raina but almost always knows everything beforehand. "It's-"
"As you already know this, go to the staff room and get the attendance register. If you find yourself lost, somehow be back to class before this period ends otherwise, you will be marked absent as punishment", he said.
Virat wanted to bind him to a chair in front of the whole college and punch him. Mahi, who was well aware of his little brother, glared at him and gestured to sit quietly before leaving the class. Virat weighed his options of throwing the thick Math book at the back of the Professor's head but it would anger Mahi and the idiotic Professor was not worth it to upset his Mahi bhai. Hence, he sat quietly. When he looked at his friends almost everyone was glaring at the Professor except Ritika, who was taking notes but she is a sweet girl so Virat ignored her, and he had decided these boys were his friends for life.

Mahi was a bit lost but finally found the staff room, which was no less than a battlefield. The number of professors sitting inside were giving him curious questioning glances except one who was kind enough to break the silence. "Are you lost?", asked the Professor.
"No, sir", said Mahi. "I was asked to get the attendance register of our class but I don't know the name of my professor."
"First year?", he asked and shook his head when Mahi nodded. "That should be Karan Kapoor. I still don't understand why he wants students to find his name as if it's some bloody quest. Anyway, his locker is 2nd row, 3rd column. Get the key from his assistant. He is sitting there near the window."
Mahi glanced at the TA and then thanked the professor before heading towards him. Once he took the register, he returned the key back to the assistant and left the room as early as possible, breathing a sigh of relief as he walked towards his classroom away from the 'pack of curious cats'. Between his eagerness to get back to the classroom and a split-second distraction to glance at the time on his watch, he had collided with someone and the papers in their hands fell all over and around them in a typical Bollywood feel. Mahi blinked his eyes and found a girl bent down, gathering the fallen papers. He joined her to help her, muttering a quiet apology to her. Contrasting to what he had expected, the girl grinned at him.
"Gimme a second", she said and bundled the papers in one hand before pulling her mobile out of her jeans pocket. She clicked something on it and then 'Tujhe dekha toh' from DDLJ started playing. She turned back to a confused Mahi, flipping her hair in an extra slow motion.
If not anything, Mahi was even more confused with the scene playing out in front of him. "That's too slow for flipping a hair without the video recording", he muttered.
The girl gritted her teeth. "Suna maine but I would like to ignore your comment", she said and then squealed. "Hayee, I always wanted to meet my Mr. Perfect in a Bollywood style. SRK ki tarah. I can't believe it's happening for real in my life. Thank you, SRK." To emphasize her point she looked and thanked as if Shah Rukh Khan was residing on the ceilings of their college corridors.
Mahi cleared his throat. "I think there's a misunderstanding-"
But the girl had cut him off slapping his arm. "Bade bade colleges mein aisi choti choti baat hoti rehti hai, Senorita. Oops. Sorry. What's your name?"
"Mahi?"
"Mahi", she repeated. "Sounds perfect."
"What?"
"Nothing. Are you a first-year student?"
"Yeah?"
The girl nodded. "Listen, where's the classroom?"
Mahi sighed. She was a first-year. "It's this way. Come on, I am going to the class too."
The girl spluttered as if to get her words eagerly. "No way. I am asking you the classroom because I don't want to accidentally land up in my classroom."
"What?"
The girl looked around and then leaned forward. "I always wanted to bunk my first class on the first day of my college", she said in a hushed voice.
"Who even bunks in their first class?", he asked.
"First day first class bunk karne mein jo sukoon milta woh tum kya jano, Mahi babu. Anyways, if the class is this way, I am going that way. See you later, cute boy", she said, patting his cheek.
It was one of the weirdest encounters he had ever had. Thankfully, there wasn't any audience to witness this drama. Virat would have a field day if he gets a word about it.
Fortunately, he made it in time to the classroom. The rest of their classes weren't interesting. Since it was their first day, they were only asked to introduce their names. To Mahi's delight, the Professor he met in the staff room was taking their English course. As he had got a glimpse earlier, he was nice and friendly and only the 2nd class, after Mathematics, which was common between all their friends.

Being exhausted after all the classes, they all gather in the canteen to have their lunch. Faf and Ab, who had a different elective, were asked to meet their professor. Virat and Hardik were ranting about being tired to Mahi. Ritika was stuffing the salad in Rohit's mouth giving him a lecture about how healthy it was. Rahul and Raina were silently concentrating on their food.
"Bhai, aap meri baat sun nahi rahe", whined Virat. Mahi was silent since the morning, silent than he usually was.
"Cheeku, I have to tell you something", he said, his tone low but it gained everyone's attention towards him.
"Bhai, what happened? Did someone trouble you? I will kill him", said Virat.
Raina patted his arm. "Cheeku, let's hear him first. Mahi, what happened?"
Before Mahi could say anything, a girl sat down in one of the empty chairs and made herself comfortable as if they were all friends.
"Who are you?", asked Virat, raising his eyebrows in question.
"What are you doing here?", asked Ritika at the same time.
The girl grinned at Ritika. "Oops, roomie. I didn't notice you. Do you hang out with these guys? Anyways, I am friends with Mahi", she said the last one to Virat.
As far as Virat knew, Mahi doesn't have a friend who he didn't know about. This girl wasn't Mahi's friend. The thought made him frown and Mahi's next words only made his frown deeper.
"Listen, I don't even know your name. And when did we become friends?", he asked.
Girl pouted. "I told you about my one true love, my SRK. Do you think I share my special matters with any stranger just like that?"
Virat was irritated. "But who the hell are you?"
"One and only Sakshi Singh Rawat."
Beside him, Hardik squealed. "Wow. You both share a common middle name."
Mahi slapped his head. "It's not the last name, Hardik. Stop squealing."
"Usme kitna time lagega. Share kar lenge woh bhi", muttered Sakshi.
Okay, it was getting suspicious now. Virat narrowed his gaze. "What do you mean?"
She gave him an innocent smile in reply. "You wouldn't understand, Cheeka bean."
"Cheeka bean?"
Sakshi shrugged. "Yeah. He just called you Cheeku, right?", she said pointing towards Raina. "And I love Mr. Bean. Cheeka bean sounds cute."
Beside him, Rohit and Ritika were hunched together to have a whispered conversation and Virat concentrated to eavesdrop because what the hell is even going on around here. "Is she your weird and crazy roommate?", muttered Rohit. When Ritika nodded slightly, the boy pulled her into a side hug and patted her head dramatically. "My poor baby girl."
Virat shook his head and ignored them to look at the problem in question but found the girl smirking at the two and Hardik almost jumping in his seat excitedly. Unable to form a thought, Virat turned to Mahi. "Mahi bhai, why is she sitting here? Who is she? Are you friends with her? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because he didn't feel like. Stop behaving like an obsessed girlfriend."
It was Sakshi and how dare she? And Virat was gaping at her in shock because he didn't know what else to say. Neither is anyone else.
Mahi was the first one to come out of his shock. "He is more than anything for me. And why are you..."
Raina squeezed his arm. "Mahi...", he warned, before smiling at Sakshi. "Listen, Sakshi, sorry for Virat's behavior. He is just protective towards Mahi."
Virat glared at Raina because he wasn't protective of Mahi (Of course he was but this argument wasn't because of that) and this girl was a complete stranger who might be some kind of a terrorist or any underworld who especially came to harass and harm Mahi. Instead of understanding his reasoning, his twin brother just ignored him. To ease up the situation Hardik tried to strike a conversation.
"So, what is your branch?", asked Hardik, and seriously? Hardik and studies? Even weird.
"Science. And can you people please tell your names? I don't know except Mahi and my Roomie. Of course, her best friend is Rohit and this Cheeka bean here."
"Hardik."
"But we didn't see you in class today?", asked Rahul.
Sakshi shrugged. "Because I wanted to bunk the first day of my college life."
At least, she wasn't a nerd, thought Virat.
Rohit was taken aback. "What did you do the whole day without attending classes?"
"I was roaming in the college, sneaking into places without getting caught by any professor."
Virat raised his eyebrow. "Did you come across the mathematics professor? Bade chasme wala."
"Arey woh time waste wala?", she asked and huffed. "Such a headache he is. I almost bumped into him. Just because he looked suspicious, I politely wished him a 'good morning' but he said, he doesn't want to waste his time by replying to me. He used even more number of words than the words he would have used while replying back."
"He asked us to know his name on our own", complained Virat.
"Because he didn't want to waste time in introducing", said Rohit.
"Really?", asked Sakshi.
"Yeah. Weird guy. Mahi bhai, do you know his name?", asked Virat.
Mahi nodded. "Karan Kapoor."
Sakshi chuckled. "Karan Johar aur Rishi Kapoor ka hybrid version."
"No Sak, those two are much much better than this guy", said Virat.
Mahi raised an eyebrow. "Sak? I thought you two were fighting?"
"Oh yeah. I forgot", said Virat, making Mahi roll his eyes.
Sakshi held her ears. "Cheeka bean, I am sorry. Would that work?"
Virat grinned. "Of course. Your enemy is the same as mine. Enemies of the enemy are friends, right." Suddenly, she didn't feel like a terrorist anymore.
Sakshi grinned back. "Waise, I don't know your name. Cheeku should be your nickname, right?"
Virat nodded. "Yeah. I am Virat. Virat Kohli. That's Raina. My un-identical twin. It would have been a nightmare if we were identical by any means."
Raina punched his arm. "What? What did I even do to classify as a 'nightmare' in your dictionary?"
Virat ignored him and whispered conspiratorially to Sakshi. "Sak, he goes to the library every day and his hobbies are reading books."
Sakshi gaped at him, dramatically. "What? Raina, stay away from me. I don't want you to influence my inner soul."
Raina glared at the pair of them.
"And Sak, that excited soul is Hardik and this cutie pie is Rahul."
Sakshi clapped his back excitedly. "Rahul as is in Kuch Kuch Hota hai? Tumhare Anjali aur Tina kidhar hai?"
"Rahul as in Lokesh Rahul. Meri koi Anjali aur Tina nahi hai."
Virat chuckled. "And you already know Mahi bhai."
Sakshi frowned at that. "Why do you call him bhai? I mean you people are friends, right?"
"He is more than a friend", said Virat. "He is our family. Even our parents consider him as their elder son. So, we call him bro or bhai or sometimes simply Mahi."
Raina grinned. "He even protects us like an elder brother. So, it suits him too."
"Are we done with this introducing cum praising session?", muttered Mahi.
Sakshi poked his arm. "Why so grumpy, Mahi?"
"Arey, leave that. You didn't tell us how did you meet Mahi?", asked Virat, his most awaited question.
Sakshi explained about their first encounter and to be frank, Virat understood why Mahi felt wary about the girl. She was dramatic. But also, she and Virat would get along just fine.
"So, you informed him about your crush on SRK even before telling your name?", asked Rohit, using his very judgmental eyebrows.
But Sakshi ignored his eyebrows. "SRK is my one true love. Not crush."
"We already understood this by now", said Hardik.
"That's great", said Sakshi. "What do you think about SRK, Mahi?"
"Well, he is a great actor."
Sakshi pouted. "Bas itna hi? Don't you feel he is a legend?"
"What?"
"My Mahi Bhai is a legend", said Virat, pleased with the thought.
Mahi frowned in confusion. "What?"
Raina nodded. "True. He will become a legend."
Mahi gaped at him. "What? When?"
"I agree", said Rohit, raising his hand.
"Have you all gone nuts?", asked Mahi, finally losing his patience. When Ritika tried to open her mouth to say something when he held out his hand. "Ritsy, don't you dare join them in their irrelevant stupidity."
"But-"
"No. And also, no for Hardik, Rahul."
"Just them? So, we can continue", asked Rohit. Yeah, he wasn't as innocent as he looked.
Mahi stood up. "I am leaving this place."
Virat grabbed his hand. "No, stay. No one will tease my Mahi bhai", he said, pulling him beside him.
Sakshi smiled at them but then she glanced at her watch and winced. "Okay, I have to leave. Roomie, come back to the room, safely. Bye boys. We will meet later. I am so glad I made some very good friends on the first day itself. We will hang out together. Don't worry and don't forget to call me if you have any special plans tonight. Bye, Mahi. See you soon." And then she dashed out of the canteen before anyone could utter a word.
Mahi groaned. "She is so weird."
"I know", said Ritika, agreeing with him.
Rohit poked her arm. "She is fun, Ritsy. Remember, what I told you."
Virat hmmed. "But don't you all think she is way too interested in Mah.."
Mahi slapped his head. "Don't use that extra smart brain of yours. There isn't anything like what you are imagining. Anyways, I have to go."
"Where?"
"Orphanage. I have to take the classes."
Virat frowned. "But I thought you had quit the place."
Mahi ruffled his hair. "Quit living there. Not teaching the kids. I love them and they pay some fair money. So, it's like a part-time job. I am getting late. Bye, little one. See you later. Bye, everyone."
After all the drama, everyone decided it would be better to go back to their rooms.
So, Sakshi's here. And her mission to tease Mahi. What do you think about her?
A/N: I wish I could write fast but unfortunately, my supervisor is keeping me busy with my project work and the number of seminars we are supposed to give. Hopefully, see you soon. :(
