Chapter Eight
In Ichimatsu's hand, was the very same knife that he had taken his own life with.
Gripping it tightly, Ichimatsu pushed the church door open with all his might. It creaked loudly as Ichimatsu struggled to make just enough room to slip inside the building. But, somehow, he managed to do such.
And as soon as he entered the church auditorium, he found Karamatsu bent over his podium, sobbing while praying.
"Karamatsu..." Ichimatsu called out gravely, immediately getting his old friend's attention.
"It's been many years, Ichimatsu..." Karamatsu said, his voice trembling as he forced a gentle smile on his place. "I've been very alone..."
Karamatsu staggered towards Ichimatsu then hugged him tightly, welcoming his friend back.
"I've missed you so much, my boy," Karamatsu wheezed, trying not to cry. "Where have you been?"
"Do you not remember..." Ichimatsu asked, weakly forcing out his words, wanting to cry from what he had to do next.
"Why did you leave me, Ichimatsu?" Karamatsu asked, finally noticing the knife that his lost friend was holding.
"I was wished to die, so I pleased the world..." Ichimatsu muttered.
"Why are you back..? For what reason have you come here?" Karamatsu asked, desperately gripping his friend by the shoulders. "S-surely..."
"I've been sent back to kill all those who have committed the same sin as I. Murder," Ichimatsu squeaked, beginning to cry.
Karamatsu felt nothing but pity for his friend.
"My boy, do not cry," Karamatsu said, putting his hand on Ichimatsu's cheek. "This is not a place of sorrow, but a place of joy. A place where suffering ends."
"I-I can't do it!" Ichimatsu cried, wheezing and coughing. "How could I kill the only person who ever told me that I mattered? How could I do that?!"
"I'm sure..." Karamatsu said with a smile, "that I asked for you to do this to me."
"I can't..." Ichimatsu whimpered.
"But why? You'll finally be free, Ichimatsu. You can finally do what you've always wanted to do. Be who you want to be. A chance to start over in a new life with a new family," Karamatsu said.
Ichimatsu fell over crying, dropping the knife at the priest's feet.
"I can't do it!" he sobbed loudly.
Karamatsu rested his hand on Ichimatsu's back then sighed, "I'll do it for you then."
And at that, Karamatsu snatched up the knife, stabbed it into his throat, and jerked around until he died.
Only moments later did several police men run into the church and seize Ichimatsu, arresting him for having killed the priest.
And though Ichimatsu had done no such thing, he allowed them to beat him up as they threw him into a dark prison cell.
