Chapter 5

"Ok," Noah stated simply. Liam let out a gasp behind him.

"Ok, as in you'll go out with me?" Lilian said, her eyes already shining with confidence and assurance.

"Yes. I'll go out with you." Noah repeated. Professor Wilkites watched as two of the most influential young adults got together. This was going to bring high society into another scandal.

"Ahem. Today we will be discussing molecular theory and combustion." Professor Wilkites coughed a few times to get the kids' attention and started writing on the chalkboard behind him. The students immediately turned around and started to pay attention to. They might not need to be worried about their background, but they needed to know some things so they didn't make fools of themselves later.

Noah glanced at Lilian's legs and then shot her a meaningful glance before he turned around and sat back down in his seat. Lilian smiled at his back and then sat properly and started to pay attention.

"DUDE! What was that?! Plenty of girls have confessed to you, but you've never batted an eye!" Liam whispered to Noah.

"She could be of use to the Schwan family," Noah whispered back, and then he started to pay attention to the lesson. He had already learned all of this in his personal lessons, but he didn't want to miss anything. He couldn't shame the Schwan family name by being incompetent.

"You're really moving?" Ellie asked Amber. Ellie had other friends, but she liked Amber a lot. She wasn't fake and didn't do anything for attention. If anything, Amber seemed like she wanted to avoid being the center of attention.

"Yes, Ellie. I don't want to, but it seems something came up and I don't have a choice." Amber said sadly. It had been a few hours since Sophie and Tom had told Amber the news. She still couldn't believe it. She was leaving New York. She might not have been popular or had any friends besides Ellie, but this was where she learned her first words, took her first steps, and had experienced all of her life. But she was leaving it behind just like that.

"W-Well look on the bright side," Ellie said, "You'll get to travel!" Ellie was grasping at straws to try to make Amber feel better.

"And it's not like anyone will miss me," Amber muttered.

"I will!" Ellie yelled.

"No one besides you, Ellie," Amber stated sadly. She glanced down at her suitcase. All of her clothes were packed in it. Tomorrow she would be on a plane to Los Angeles, and she might never return to her hometown. . . "Let's just go to school. I'm sure everyone will be relieved to know the freak is finally leaving." Amber sighed.

"Come on! I'm sure another person will be sad you're going!" Ellie refused to believe that no one else liked Amber.

When Amber and Ellie arrived at school, they immediately split up. Ellie and Amber were in different homerooms. Amber was just about to open the door to her homeroom when she heard people talking.

"So she's really moving? The freak is leaving?" A boy whispered.

"Yeah. My family started a petition to kick her out of the city, and it got enough signatures. They have no choice. They have to leave and they can never come back." A girl boasted. Amber was shocked. Her fingers started twitching. She looked at the door. It was like a barrier. Separating her from them. She glared at it. What was wrong with her? What did she ever do? She accidentally injured a boy years ago and she was labeled as a freak. She clenched her fist. Amber wasn't aware of it, but her hand was glowing slightly. Amber took a deep breath. Who cared anymore? She would leave and get a fresh start. No one could ever call her a freak again. Amber put her hand on the door handle and was about to open the door, but she decided not to. She was leaving tomorrow. Why should she even go to school? It's not like it mattered.

Amber went to the office and signed out. She told the man at the desk that she wasn't feeling well, and that she was going to go home.

When Amber came home Sophie and Tom were surprised, but they didn't say anything. They knew that Amber was suffering.

"You should really control your emotions." A man smirked. He had chains all over his body, but they didn't seem to bother him. He had ink-black hair and crystal clear blue eyes.

"I can't help it, and I haven't killed anyone." A woman retorted. She was also chained. They were close enough together to see each other, but far enough apart that they couldn't touch each other.

"So I was just supposed to sit back and let them kill my other half?" The man stated calmly. The man and woman stared at each other. They had been stuck in this place for an infinite amount of time. Every few hundred years a bit of their soul would be born into the other world through the tree. They would have to be separated immediately because their bodies couldn't handle the attraction they felt for each other so early. With every breath, they would take a tiny bit of their soul back from the void the man and woman were stuck in. But just before the souls could be completed, and they could finally be reunited, other people would get involved. The other people had dragged their souls into the attraction force, so much so that they would be constantly reborn and seek the affection of the man and woman's soul. Sadly, the man and woman felt nothing towards the other, the only one in their eyes was each other. The other people would get so enraged that they would try to kill the one who stole their beloved's affection. Once, the man and woman's other halves had defeated all of the other people who were infatuated with them, but it still didn't save them. When there was only a wisp of their souls left in the void, they destroyed each other.

"It's already been so long since I've been able to touch you. . ." The man started, "I can't even remember what you feel like. . ." The man tried to reach out towards the woman, but the chains held him back.

"I'm sorry. . ." The woman sobbed. She yearned to be with the one she loved, but they were trapped here.

"It's ok. Have faith. I'm sure one day our other halves will break free." The man whispered, trying to convince himself more than the woman.
