Chapter 4
"L-Los Angeles?! Is this a joke?" Amber sputtered. She had lived in New York her whole life, moving halfway across the country was something she never thought she would have to do.
"We're sorry, Sweetheart. . . Something came up and we have to move there. . ." Sophie replied to Amber. She couldn't tell Amber that the neighborhood signed a petition to make them move because they were scared of Amber. Tom glanced at Sophie and started to say something, but AMber interrupted him.
"Is this a permanent thing? Are we going to come back? Why are we even moving to Los Angeles?" Amber nervously stated.
"We can't tell you why we're going there, Amber. We don't know if it's a permanent thing yet." Tom firmly said.
Amber was starting to realize that this was it. They were moving. "When?" She whispered.
"In a couple of days. . ." Sophie said, averting her gaze. Amber's eyes widened, and they filled with tears. A couple of days. She was leaving the pace she had been born, raised, and lived in for 16 years in a couple of days. Amber turned around and ran to her room.
Sophie waited until Amber was out of earshot before she said, "Should we really leave? Maybe we can change their minds? Amber isn't that bad. . . I'm sure they'll realize that!" Sophie felt guilty for tearing Amber away from her home. She didn't deserve this, but everyone in the city was terrified of Amber. She was a child with unknown origins, and she managed to pull a boy's arm out of his socket when she was only a child. There was no telling what she would do now that she was a teenager, almost an adult.

"Did you hear the rumors? Yeah, Noah Schwan. . ." Hushed whispers assaulted Noah's ears as soon as he arrived in his homeroom. It had only been a few hours since the incident, but everyone in high society had already heard about it. Noah glanced around, and everyone who was whispering immediately shut up and pretended to be busy. They didn't want to get on the bad side of the heir to the Schwan business. Noah sighed and picked a seat in the back row to sit in for the day. So what if it was someone else's spot? They wouldn't dare to offend a Schwan. Especially with all the rumors going around that he was a killer.
"Hey man. How's it going?" Liam whispered as he sat down next to Noah. He didn't care about others either, and they wouldn't dare offend Noah Schwan's best friend.
"How does it look?" Noah replied. He glanced at Liam. Despite all of the rumors Liam was willing to stick with him, and he didn't care about the Schwan family either. The edges of Noah's mouth curved up a little.
"Man! Don't smile! Your looks are killer!" Liam gasped and faked a heart attack. Noah's smile widened. He couldn't understand how someone from high society could act so carefree.
"Hey, isn't that?" Whispers started up again. Noah glanced around. It wasn't about him this time, so who could it be about? Noah glanced towards the door and entering the room he saw a girl. His eyes widened slightly when he saw her. She was fierce. Her prep school outfit was breaking a lot of codes, but no one said anything. She was likely from a family with similar standing to the Schwans. Her blazer was nowhere to be found, her sleeves were rolled up, her skirt was extra short, and she had orange highlights in her light brown hair. Her brown hair reached her waist, accenting the short skirt. Her skin was slightly tanned, not a fake tan as the rich girls got, but a real tan. One you get from the beach. The most surprising thing was her eyes. They had an air of confidence in them. They were a light shade of hazel, but if you looked closely it was like they had bright orange sparks in them.
"Wow. Who's that?" Liam muttered. Noah glanced at the girl one more time, then Liam, and then he looked at the wall.
"Don't rack your brain over it. She'll have to introduce herself when the teacher gets here." Noah responded. He wasn't interested in girls. They were too vain. He had gotten confessions before, but they didn't benefit him in any way. His sole reason for existence was to be of use to the Schwan family. Love didn't matter.
"Speak of the devil. . ." Liam groaned. The teacher walked in. It was an old, fat, bald man, but since he was teaching rich kids he had to be smart. His name was Professor Wilkite.
"Oh, it looks like Lilian Curtz finally decided to come to school." Professor Wilkite said when he saw the girl.
"The CURTZ family?! Aren't they really influential? And rich? Aren't they almost as influential and rich as the Schwan family?" Whispers assaulted Noah's ears once again. Matchmaking him and this fiery girl. It wasn't a bad idea actually. . . If Noah united their families he would have done the Schwan family a huge service. Noah glanced at the girl again. He wouldn't try to dazzle her until he knew for sure that it was what the Schwan family wanted.
"So, Teach, where should I sit?" Lilian asked rudely. She crossed her arms, leaned against the wall, blew a bubble of her gum, popped it, and smirked.
"You can go ahead and sit in the back." Professor Wilkite said, not at all affected by her snobby behavior. Lilian looked annoyed for a moment, but she walked to the back and sat by Liam.
"Ok class, let's get started. . ." Professor Wilkite started. Lilian put her legs up on her desk and leaned her chair back. Her skirt was already really short, so you could almost see up it when she sat like that. Her smirk returned, and she popped another piece of bubblegum. All the boys stared, their eyes glued to her upper legs.
"Ahem. Students. Pay attention." Professor Wilkites tried and failed to gain back the attention of the students.
"Shouldn't you do something? You're class president, and your family is on equal footing with hers." Liam whispered to Noah. Noah glanced at Lilian again. He didn't want to offend her, but Professor Wilkite was a good man. Noah got up out of his seat and walked towards Lilian.
"Can you please stop distracting everyone?" Noah calmly stated. His crystal clear blue eyes seemed to freeze Lilian when she looked into them.
"You. . ." Lilian started, "You're exactly my type!" Lilian shouted.
"Excuse me?" Noah's eyes widened slightly, but his calm exterior didn't crack.
"I said you're my type! Go out with me!" Lilian shouted, confidence shining in her eyes. Noah smirked imperceptibly, it might not be that hard to fulfill his duty to serve the Schwan family.
