Chapter 6, 77 Countries on a Wall, 77 Countries...
We were surrounded my immediate darkness.
"Is challenge 2 darkness or something? Danielle remarked.
Immediately The floor started to creak and move beneath us, shaking us until we all dropped onto all fours.
"Well thanks a lot Mrs.Love!" Arnaud yelled, bumping into me and knocking me sideways.
"Call me that one more time, I dare you!"
The rumbling stopped.
"What wa - Ah!" screeched Olta as we plunged down, surrounded by light. I landed with a thump on a hard mattress. The things weren't as lucky after that. Olta dropped on top of me, Arnaud got a face-full of cement brick and Danielle, well, she was fine. She landed on her feet in a crouch next to Arnaud. Jocks.
"What are we doing here?" Olta asked
"The second challenge, What is it though?" Said little Mrs.Athletic
"Can you - please get off, it's - really ha-rd to breath" I wheezed.
"Oh Sorry!" Olta squeaked, jumping off the mattress.
I sat up and looked around. Everything seemed fine, but something didn't quite feel right. I didn't feel any different, but it was as if I knew something had happened to my teammates. But what?
Our landing spot was like a modernized medieval tower. In the first corner where I sat was a firm mattress. Clockwise, Corner Two was a staircase. Corner 3 held a few weapons of an odd arrangement, and the fourth Corner was filled with a flagpole, wielding a bright yellow flag.
"Hey! down here there are some windows to shoot out of and some gear!" Danielle yelled from down the staircase, "There's an exit too! This place really is a tower."
"Hey, Danielle, get back up here! take a look at this!" Arnaud shouted.
At the edge of our tower between the mattress, I refuse to call it a bed, and the staircase, A long, solid bridge had formed. It wasn't like an Indiana Jones bridge that swayed, It was like laying a plank of wood down between two bricks. It was about 5 feet across and stretched far out into a center point where three others joined it. Each led to their own tower. On each, a team had been dropped just as ours had. To the left, a team of guys riled around a Blood Red flag, trying out the different weapons. To the right, a varied group of 7 had fanned out over a green flag. Immediately something made me dislike that team. Something Specific to them. Strait ahead around a blue flag stood 50 adolescents.
Once again Morgan Freeman spoke to us:
"Hello again children. You are all among the few to make it to Round Two. Your leaders have probably found that something feels wrong about this challenge. That, leaders, is because your teammates have been converted to their digital forms. In this challenge, if you are not the aforementioned leader, you may die without actually dying. Your Digital bodies are no different than your actual ones. You can do only what you could with your normal bodies, you still feel all the pain, you just happen to have 1 extra life, that is, if you win. The winners of this competition will all move on, if they have kept at least one of their lives. The Second Place and Third Place teams may move on as well, but only if they work for it. If you give up your flag for example, you will not move on. Fourth Place on the other hand, is guaranteed a loss. Your Challenge is Capture the flag. Atop a wall. Above a bottomless pit. Good Luck!"
